Just for the record, once this starts to happen it continues at any volume, the clipping/cutting out just gets quieter. I’m not talking about the high volume fade after 27 or so.

I’ve tried all the ports in the truck all apple cables. I’ll try a dummy cord in the aux port and see what happens though.

I mean worth a shot.

I switched to the USB c cable. It is ok until about 3/4 volume. Then the bass is just non existent and the audio gets distorted. If I play a song with more bass, it starts messing up even sooner. I don't listen to music that loud, so not a big issue. Just don't think theres a fix

As the title states. Anyone else experiencing this? 8.4 non nav. I normally don’t stream audio from my phone as I usually use Sirius. However, I’ve noticed after 10-12 minutes of driving the music will begin to distort, crackle or clip, while playing at any volume. It’s completely awful. I’ve checked radio updates and there is none. I’ve swapped out cords and used all the ports and using an apple cord. Everything is fine on bluetooth. I haven’t updated my iOS to 15 yet due to some issues they are having. I would if I knew this would be the fix.

I should note everything was fine on iOS 13 on this same phone when I first got the truck last year.

It isn’t just related to Apple Music, it will do it on all apps. Pandora, etc.
I have the same exact issue you're having. I have the Iphone 12 pro max. USB/Mirco USB /Blue Tooth, after a short time streaming music it starts crackling and sounding awful. I think it hit or miss with these radios. Some have problems, Others don't.

So I think I have now experienced this issue myself but I can’t be sure, I’ve only had the new truck with uconnect 5 for a few days now so I need more time to test.

Was driving down the highway with my iPhone 13 pro max connected via Bluetooth and apple music play at around volume 25 and it cut out a few times almost like the music randomly paused or the signal was lost for a split second at a time, this continued until I turned down the music and switched the song and all was well.

I’ve driven 16+ hours at once with the music cranked to 25-30 on my 2020 rebel with the uconnect 4 and never once experienced an issue like that.

I search online and it seems a lot of different brands have this issue and the usual fix is either a vehicle update or iOS update. I updated to iOS 15.5 last night so I’ve yet to test it.

My 21 ram has the exact same issue. It’s not just Apple either. I’ve tried it with a Galaxy S22 Ultra, Pixel 6 pro, iPhone 13 Pro Max and now the new iPhone 14 pro max and it’s the same problem each time. I’ve tried different cables, usb C, usb A and of course lightning. Still, the same problem.

It’s incredibly ****ty to have this happening in any vehicle let alone a 50k+ truck. Where is the recall or fix RAM??? This is unacceptable.

I’m still running the iPhone 5SE. I usually try to keep my phones going as long as my trucks… 20 years or so! Lol. I’ll try iOS 15 tonight and hopefully it will fix the current issues and not add to them.
 I'm impressed the an iphone 5 is still working!! (No disrespect intended)

Sorry to bump this thread, I just picked up a used 2021 Rebel and noticed I have that random cracking/distortion when using carplay. It sounds like that noise you get with an old audio cable being fiddled with on an older stereo.

I noticed some folks have issues with the ANC, could that be related to this (wishful thinking as I only get this issue with carplay audio apps like Spotify and Music).

Yup, same deal I still have going on. I’d like to try putting a media hub in it but haven’t had time to mess with it. Updating the radio to the latest version didn’t help either. I didn’t update to IOS 15 because currently UConnect is awaiting an update for support for IOS 15.

I will say that on my uconnect 4, carplay works with IOS 15 and 16.

I gave up and ordered a uconnect 5 system with wireless carplay from infotainment, took advantage of their $500 off black Friday sale. Dude I spoke with there said the uconnect 5 works fine and the bluetooth carplay would bypass the issue (IF I were to see issues with USB but claims the UC5 doesn't have the issue). He ranted that they should have recalled them long ago and the Jeep folks experience the same issue.

There is some good troubleshooting threads on some of the Jeep forums, they pretty much ruled out IOS, iPhones, the USB hub on the truck, the ports and the cables. Said it was pretty much the head unit glitching. Apparently there are some internal circuits that get hot and eventually cause audio issues when they get hot; this explains why it works fine and starts going to crap after 10-15 mins.

I am having the exact same issue...and I have found it happens even when I have FM or XM playing.

Basically when I plug my iPhone 14 in while playing music on another source like FM, once the "Phone" symbol changes to "CarPlay" the sound gets distorted or weak. I have read that iPhone 14s are having an audio quality issue with CarPlay and that Apple is working on a fix...but who knows if it is specific to this.

The iPhone 14 is brand new and I still need to try my old iPhone XR to see if the new phone is the issue.

Ok...update from the dealer today. They looked at my issue with CarPlay and diagnosed it as "normal", saying that they were able to recreate the issue, but the tech also used his iPhone and it did not have the same issue as my new iPhone 14. CarPlay is really unusable if I want to crank up my volume.

Also, I had tried my older iPhone XR and it had the same issue. I mentioned that to the service advisor but I think they just don't care...Ugh ( @RamCares ? )

Hey KMach...

I just read your post & I guess I missed that you mentioned "the high volume fade after 27 or so" like it is a normal thing. I am having this issue...the fade, clipping or weakness is only noticeable when the volume is up near 32 and above...but it is on all sources (FM, XM, etc) when my phone is connected, and immediately returns to full volume and a fuller sound once I disconnect my phone from the USB ports.

Is this what you were meaning by high volume fade?

Thanks...

So they were able to recreate the issue, but don’t have a solution or answer for this issue? I’m having the same exact problem and it is so frustrating.

I had iOS 16.1.1 while having this issue which was the most up to date update at the time.

I just updated my phone to 16.1.2 last night, December 4th, so I’ll see if that helps this issue at all. There has to be a way to fix this problem, whether it’s an iOS update or Ram/Uconnect fixes something on their end. RamCares any solutions???

Update: iOS 16.1.2 didn’t fix the issue. RamCares this issue NEEDS fixed. Paid 45k for the truck. Should not be having this issue.

Yep...I tried IOS 16.1.2 also and no difference.

If it is happening with multiple phones, cables and USB plugs...then it must be a software or hardware issue in the truck. I might have to take it to another dealer just to see what they say.

Talked with some Ram Uconnect specialists on the phone today, he said Uconnect is only compatible with iOS 15.6.1 and anything before that, that’s why we are having issues. I have an old iPhone 7 Plus with iOS 14.4 and it didn’t give me any issues. So I’m assuming that’s the problem. I did talk to a service advisor at a dealership today, he said Ram is releasing an update for Uconnect at the beginning of 2023.
But as to why we are having issues it’s because Uconnect just isn’t compatible with iOS 16 yet.

I don't have a phone old enough that doesn't have IOS 16 on it to be able to test it, but Uconnect needs to get with it as IOS 16 came out in like June or something...
