If you don't need a third row of seats why not just put a cap on the back of the truck? Then you get SUV and truck utility at the same time and don't have to take a money hit.
Can't put passengers under a cap.
As I said (and we've discussed in previous posts) - had the new lineup of GM SUV's been out a year ago - I most likely would have went in that direction and never even looked at pickups.
Not that there is anything wrong really - with the Ram. Or the things I dislike are minor, and I write them off to "hey, it's a damn pickup truck". The ride is sweet (unless you're going over bumps), much nicer than any other truck I drove. The gas milage sucks - but then again - I was only averaging 16 with the Honda so it's as much the fault of my right foot as anything else.
And as I mentioned in the previous post, I'm considering doing Uber/Lift Black (lux) - and you can't do that in a pickup.
Am I going to take a depreciation hit on the truck - yup. But between the discount of sticker ($6K) and rebate on the deal ($4,500) - and the current trade-in value ($48K) - it's not as difficult to swallow as it would be with no discount or rebate (almost a break-even).
So it still comes down to the original question - do I wish I bought something else?
When it comes to pickups - the answer would be NO. Ram is still the best equipped, best looking, most comfortable, BEST VALUE in the top trim of pickups out there. And unlike GM - doesn't have the "distinction between lines" (GMC versus Chevy versus Caddy) - where the Suburban I configured is not nearly as nice as the Yukon XL in the same configuration - and the price difference between the two is only $2K. Negligible difference in price, for a huge difference in overall quality. And forget a similarly configured Caddy, insane @ $110K.
So I'm selling some guns and other toys I don't need - to come up with the downstroke (I hate huge payments, and the milage I run doesn't allow for a lease).
Will I miss my Ram when the time comes? Probably not - as I will be getting into something as nice, that is more functional for MY NEEDS. Do I REGRET BUYING THE RAM? Nope - you don't know, what you don't know - until you experience it. Could I KEEP THE RAM for another 3 years (I usually trade @ 4 yrs/100K miles)? Yes & no. Yeah - I could drive it for another 4, and it wouldn't hurt me - but being that I am looking at going in a different direction for what I am going to be using the vehicle for - no.
I appreciate the suggestion of the cap. I looked at them when I first got the truck. Maybe someone even makes one by now that will fit with the MFT. But I'm also not looking to spend another couple of thousand to get one either.
