Well, the more I thought about this the more it irritated me that I didn't fix it when I had the panel off. So, I took it off again and started stripping the cover off the wire harness starting at the switch. Went about 4 inches and found where the wires were shorted together. Separated and insulated them and now everything works as it is supposed to. It is amazing to me how many of us have this same exact problem and it is still happening with the 2020's. I would think enough dealers would have seen this problem by now that the factory would fix their assembly problem. @RamCares , I know your here as a customer advocate but I'm curious if you ever report back to the factory on the common problems that come up on the forum.

Hi Rick J,

I'm glad to hear that you were able to remedy this concern. As the social media engagement team, we do work directly with engineering and brand teams to report developing vehicle concerns in order to pursue further research. While our team collects this information, we connect customers with a case specialist who is responsible for working alongside the customer and dealer to aid in identifying a resolution.

2020 Laramie here.

I didn't even realize only half of my ambient lights were working until I started looking for ways to upgrade the LEDs.

Not working:
- dash LEDs (left, center & glovebox)
- both back door (all) LEDs

I also noticed the gap above the glovebox is uneven, the right side has a huge gap and there is almost none on the left side.
I did check, the LEDs are there they just never worked. Pulled the back door panels and couldn't find any obvious issues with the wiring.

My local dealer seems pretty good, I'll have them check it out. I was really hoping I could just find a quick fix though.

Did you ever get it figured out? My dealer has had my 2020 limited now for 5 days and have a star technician involved with no resolution yet. I’m having similar ambient light issues as you.

Just got my truck back last week and the lights are now working. They stated they replaced the body control module and found a shorted out wire behind the dash. It took them a little over a week to figure it out. I can send you a scan of the work summary if you would like.

Glad to hear you got it resolved my dealership seems to be at a standstill and are going through all the wiring trying to locate a short in the miles and miles of wires lol. If you have your work summary that be great I’ll share it with them, maybe it will help somehow.
Hope this helps.

Thanks I shared this with them and they are currently doing this. It’s coming up on 3 weeks almost it’s been there, has anyone else had their vehicle in there that long? This is my first ram so it taking this long is not something I’ve experienced before
3 weeks! Hold holy grenade batman.

I think I could dissemble the entire truck myself in 3 weeks. My dealership is not the greatest but at least they got it fixed in only 1 week. If I was you I would find another RAM dealer for my future services.

All 3 drivers door lights are out on mine. How do you get the door opening wire off the handle lever?

Thanks
