Air conditioning performance

I'm in Arizona. We are hitting 110°F already and summer is just beginning. I can confirm the valve makes a huge difference.

I did a blend door check and an A/C performance test today on my Larmie.

We appreciate you taking the time to reach out to us! Recently there was a Technical Service Bulletin (24-001-19) that appears to address concerns similar to the symptoms that you are having with your vehicle.

Thanks for posting but that is an older TSB about a software reflash to the HVAC programming. That came out in Feb 2019. You were mentioning actual o-ring/seal replacement work that was done, which is not covered in TSB 24-001-19.

It's the o-ring/seal work that is new and of interest.

It’s getting done on Monday. I will report what I find.

I also live in Arizona. I have been following the 2019 issues from the beginnng and I test drove them and decided I would wait and see how the new model issues were addressed. Well many of the issues have been corrected except the poor air conditionong. Last week my dealer called me and gave me a fantastic deal on a Limited. I told him I would be there tommorow. I drove it and I was happy we had a deal. Took the limited for a test drive and I had my thermomiter with me. First on the driver side and after 15 minutes it only got to 64 degees. Passenger side 56. Outside temp was 95. Cabin never cooled down after 20 minutes. Salesman agreed with me there was a problem. When we pulled back in to the dealership we went right to the service manager and said they deal with issue on a case by case basis but they really don' have a fix. I told the salesman I really like thr Ram but I will wait for the 2020's to come out and if they have not resolved the AC issue I would have to buy another brand. I am really disapointed that I might have to pass the Ram up because of an AC issue. My friend bought a Longhorn last summer and loves the truck but he says the AC sucks and after 3 trips to the dealer with no fix he is looking at going back to Ford.

Not surprised this is happening, especially in locations where the summer months are really hot. As great as the Ram is otherwise, a poorly performing AC can be a deal breaker.

Yeah bad AC is no joke out here. Good on you for waiting. If more people roll into the dealers and test drive with thermometers that could be a way to get more attention.

I live in Maryland and it was 90 degrees yesterday, the ac does not blow as cold as it should be. At the drivers vent does not go lower then 55. I work on cars so I checked several other brands and the temperature at the vents goes to 42 on a Nissan Pathfinder and 40 on a Honda CR-V. I had the chance to get into a brand new 2019 ram rebel, rental, the temperature didn’t go lower than 55. It’s a shame for a great truck it is.
You can see in the pics what it shows on the other cars. The ram’s ac underperforms big time. Have to check if this ram is 2019 or 2020, not sure.

My ac parts were installed at my dealer. It’s been to cold here to test it out yet. If anyone is interested in what they did call my dealer ask them about Barry’s 2019 limited. 18447923289. Baraboo Motors Wisconsin.

It’s simply a design flaw. There is another post here
Air conditioning hack
that explains it all. I’m assuming KcRay is not ac engineer and was able to bring his ac to blow in upper 30’s, by putting a valve on the heater core supply line. Really hope FCA come up with solution and resolve the issue. The 4th gen ram ac performs great, can’t think of a reason to mess with it

AC on MAX, vent temp 54F @ 79F ambient after about 15min of driving.

62F @ 90F ambient

Well, dropped my Ram off at the dealer for a couple of issues this week, one of them was poor A/C performance. I realized I've had my A/C on "lo" temp and recirc almost since I bought it, which is not normal. I've also noticed that the air coming out of the vents when on non-recirc feels a bit humid/clammy. My best comparison was today, as I drove the base nissan loaner back to them and then my own truck home, the A/C in the Nissan felt better.

Dealer said "system was performing to spec" and I didn't have time to deal with them. It does look like they took the caps off the pressure lines under the hood. Any other ideas? Seems like I'm going to have to get a temperature probe and find another 2019 in person to do a side by side with. Trouble is, it isn't a deal-breaker, it isn't actually "broken", it just does not feel as good as my 2011 Ram. (or as any new high $ vehicle should)

Anyone have a way to find out what the temperature differential should be?
There is a thread with factory specs on here somewhere....including temp performance at various ambient temperatures... you might also look at posts for blender door adjustment

Looks like the pressure is building. TFLTruck just did a comparison video. Ford wins!

I wish they would re-shoot the video with the sun shades closed at the start of cooling to get a better test as most people would immediately do when entering a hot truck. Temps inside the trucks were within a couple of degrees of each other which makes the “race” seem almost too close to call. However, the F-150 feels cooler to the driver since the air coming out of the vents is 10 degrees cooler. At least this was my subjective assessment from test driving both this week. Hate to say, the AC performance was one of the few reasons I couldn’t make the jump to Ram even with the killer select inventory rebates out there currently. Thanks to the forum members for vocalizing this issue and hope Ram gets it corrected soon for everyone’s benefit.

Not trying to be rude here but why does Ram have to do better than only 1.6 degrees off? just IMO that's like saying your going to by a Ford just to get to 60mph 1.2 seconds faster

(which if that's the case you really need a hellcat;))

If anything, all this test does is prove that the RAM is operating within specification. Sure, the air temp out of the driver side center vent is colder on the Ford, but the cooling capability is virtually identical on both trucks.

Regarding the vent temps on the RAMs, if it was the opposite, and the driver side was colder than the passenger side, there would be far fewer complaints.
