Air conditioning confirmed from tech that it sucks and there’s no work around.

Hey all,

I know its been talked about throughout various forums and threads. But who else has been having issues with their 5th Gen’s AC?? I’ve taken mine in twice now (2020 Ram Rebel) first time was the system not cool enough on max settings during the hotter months here in Sacramento. Second time today I brought it in due to the cabin feeling muggy once auto stop/start was active. I read somewhere, can’t remember if its from another thread or hearsay, that the eTorque system was suppose to help with this issue. Can someone confirm or educate me on this??

Crazy to think that 3 of my service vehicles that are older and have over 100k (2015 Ford F-150) have the same stop/start tech and does not suffer from this. According to the service advisor who owns the same year Ram, he too shares the same issue and have not heard of any TSBs on fixing this.

My 2015 Challenger R/T also suffers from this issue and also doesn’t have any fix. I’m starting to think all newer model FCA vehicles will be like this.
 
I live in Arizona and I have never once had a complaint about my AC in my 2021. It is an Eco Desiel and doesn't shut down cylinders though. Seems so weird that so many have issues with this though.

My 2020 Built to Serve works great. And there is a TSB for A/C performance.

As for the muggyness when engine isn't running, that's to be expected as the A/C compressor is not turning when engine is off. My wifes Chevy Traverse with auto start/stop does same thing
 
I’ve driven probably 20 different vehicles in the past year with A/S/S. And they all get muggy when the engine turns off. If you’re in a humid environment, you’ll notice it pretty quickly. It’s just the nature of the compressor being off temporarily.

Ive always been curious on the ecodiesel’s. I should’ve test driven one when I had the chance before signing the line on my current Rebel.

I recall the A/C TSB was rolled into the production design sometime in late 2020 so your 2021 shouldn't have a problem. For many it seemed weird for FCA to go into Gen 5 production with a flawed A/C design.
 
I’d see about getting the TSB done. Helped a ton for my truck. I didn’t even put the hack back on.

That would blow my mind if the AC worked with the engine off...

Have you tried with recirculated air? Seems that would help keep the humidity down since you would not be drawing in humid outside air while the AC is not running.

The system automatically sets on recirculate on max AC. The system gets muggy real quick when the start/stop kicks on unless I turn the feature off which I’ve never really done on my other vehicles equipped with this system.

My 2015 Challenger RT doesn’t even have the Start/Stop feature and the AC wasnt all that cold either. Same thing the advisor told me, no TSB, no work around.
 
******UPDATE*****

Finally got my truck back from the dealership after 2 days. TSB #24-001-20 is VIN specific and does not work for my Rebel. The tech has done everything he can to see what can be improved. There is still no workaround but now there’s paper trail since its been in the shop twice for the same issue.
 
I always feel guilty saying this but the A/C in my 2021 is literally like a different system than my 2019. It is drastically colder to the point we often need to turn off "Auto" because it's just too cold.
