Aftermarket 13.6" Display Radio

As these units become more reliable and retain the full OEM features, this will be a great upgrade or replacement for the Uconnect and its sometimes troublesome shortcomings.

Getting one! Thanks for the link! I have been looking for something to replace my useless factory 12 inch display. This one says supports all trim levels and OEM sizes, all the other ones I have found did not support factory 12 inch display. Also supports the OEM 360 camera and looks great! I love android head units, I hope this one works out!

It says "OEM SXM radio and SiriusXM Guardian not retained" along with Uconnect, which I don't mind since I don't use either, but keep in mind :)

Used code "SU2022" and got 80$ off :)

Keep us posted. Definitely considering this as an option as I only have the 8.4” to begin with. Can I ask the major issues with your 12 inch display?

No major issues, just lack of features that make the 12 inch display more like a 6 inch.
-Android Auto/Apple Carplay do not use the full 12 inch display, only the top half, does not have wireless Android Auto or Car Play.
-No video playback.
-Outdated 12 inch OEM navigation

It looks like a pretty nice system and the price is reasonable. My concerns would be support and being so new it may have more bugs than UConnect 5. Does anyone here have experience with this company?

Edit:

As soon as it was released a few weeks ago I was very intent on purchasing one, until I phoned and talked to a Phoenix Tech rep.

It doesn't provide or support all of the Settings features that we currently have in our UConnect 4 radios, and that was a deal breaker for me.

Which setting features in particular? They emailed me today that they are shipping it out. I'm curious what would I be missing out on.

As I understand it, such things as being able to set up the Heads Up aren't addressed, SiriusXM has to be downloaded as an app, I think that he also said being able to access the trailer cameras isn't possible because there are only so many video inputs they could structure into it.

It is a very minimal investment but not having the complete usability as I've got now with the 12" 4C was a deal breaker, so I've decided to go the far more expensive route by changing up to the UConnect 5.

I will be interested to see what other members have to say once they have the Phoenix system installed and running.

After reading their BBB reviews, there's no way I would buy anything from them.

Things will get better with time. It would be nice if alpine came out with a flushmount solution, but that would never give them enough of a ROI for them to do it. I’ll eat my words if this 12” display lasts 10 years on the market, but that equals 100 years* in tech years.

*Not a verified number, and only used to make a point that tech moves faster than dog years.

It is not about the infotainment system per se, but more about software-based vehicles (Tesla, Rivian) vs integrated vehicle systems (basically every other manufacturer).

I'm fine with features of 12" UAX since it is just an infotainment system and a way to send commands to BCM through touch screen. But Uconnect can't add new featured to the truck if BCM is not aware of them. As an example, is my RAM able to lock doors automatically when I walk away from the vehicle? It has all the sensors and hardware for it, but that it not a feature you can add to Uconnect - it is something that must be implemented on the BCM level.

This aftermarket stereo has a very poor interface design, and I don't believe that it will ever become good. They won't have scale to invest in making it better, and based on how ugly it looks right now - they were not even worried about making it good in the first place.

Good afternoon,

The Phoenix 13.6 Inch screen aftermarket radio was first announced somewhere in June 2021. I pre-ordered it and by October 2021 no ETA from Phoenix, even though it was promised to be released by July. So, I cancelled that order.

Fast forward to a couple of weeks ago when I saw the demo video on youtube and could not believe how nice their unit looked.

I took a chance and ordered it again. After 10 days the unit arrived to my house very well packaged and with all wires, adaptors and antennas needed (no instructions).

My truck is a 2019 5th Gen Big Horn base. I have manual AC controls and regular backup camera.

To my surprise, installation was easy and everything works.

The unit looks amazing and it delivers on everything promissed. Even the AC controls, the steering wheel controls, hazard lights, etc... everything works plug and play. Even the car configurations usually done by the radio are also retained....like daylight running lights, etc. No need to mess with settings or reprogram anything.

However, there are a few compromises.

1) Mic quality - it does retain the factory Mic, but now it sounds more noisy and hollow. The head unit also has a buit in mic and it is not much better. It also gives you the option of a 3rd party mic (included), but I have not tried that yet. The mic selection is in the Car Settings Menu.

2) back up camera image quality is somewhat bad. It works with the factory camera , but not even near to the image quality I had on the factory 8.4 system upgrade I had put on the truck to replace the stock 5 inch radio. My 8.4 screen displayed an HD image for the rear camera and now the image on the 13.6 screen is not only worse, but also smaller...no idea why. The screen on the 13.6 radio has a good screen. 1080P, but the camera does not get scaled properly.

3) The screen quality is very nice overall and after you remove the matte screen protector it comes with, the quality inproves a lot. However, during the day the screen could be a little bit brighter.....I am in Florida so Sunshine State!!

I hope this helps. Have had the unit for a week, so not sure on durability.

You’ll really have to keep us updated. Trying to decide between this and updating to the stock 12”. May even buy yours if you decide to part with it.

Unit came in early! Here's some pictures out of the box. It looks beautiful, I'll see if I can power it up and play with the OS a bit before attempting any installation.
