Adding Passive Entry: How-to

Thanks @l84dnr and @vincentw56. Any thoughts on the AP5 part? The tailgate is working so it may already be enabled but I'm out of town for a few days and can't check the JSCAN programming.
What is this AP5 part? I read your post but who knows what that is.

I’ve got a programming question. I’ve noticed that when the doors are already unlocked and I grab the door handle the truck wants to unlock again. Is that normal? I used JSCAN to program and everything lined up with AlfaODB instructions except I could not find this option “Cust.Prog.Features- Passive Entry Unlock All Doors or Approach Door- ENABLED” but everything otherwise seems to be working, including unlocking all the doors so I wouldn’t think that is causing what I am experiencing. I did find a post by @Jimmy07 thst talks about AP5 that I did not program. I search of the demo shows two AP5’s. AP5 trunk and AP5 Trunk Lock. @Jimmy07 (or anyone else who knows) do I set both of those to smart switch?
I used jscan the last one of the 10 is there type “cust” in search but that controls if one or all door open I believe

If anybody doesn’t want to spend the money for the entire door harnesses and rear facia harness, and doesn’t feel like building the add on harnesses with the parts, let me know and I can build them for you-

How long are each cable?

I elected to purchase door harness from a dealer. A issue I ran into with the driver door latch . Passenger side was fine. The driver harness had a different connector and one more wire then my factory non passive entry harness. I swapped out my old connector to the new harness and have yet to have any problems with the passive entry function or notice anything not working. my truck is a level 2 big horn and I used a door harness out of a limited I believe. part number 68429506aa and 68361206ad. side note these harness have every option (ambient lighting, door mounted tweeter, and memory seat) possibly even more. so far all I have messed with is the lighting and memory.

Ive scrolled through multiple pages already im done lol
How much was the total cost with all the parts and pieces?

You can go through the parts list in the first posts to add it up. Roughly $600 depending on what you need to buy.

So reading 56 pages, I come away with the following to add rear door PE.
Being a Delmonico Red Longhorn (with chrome insert) I need two handles, the same part number for both sides: 6CV361RVAD.
For the rear door handle caps I can order any side and color front door handle cap and harvest the magnet, or order two front passenger door handle caps in Delmonico Red: 6CV52NRVAB.
Order a set wire harnesses for rear door pe from jimmy07.
Then tap the respective body side harness into the front door PE wiring.

Most of the work is in the doors, everything else is already in place and enabled.
I am wondering if there are more robust methods for tapping into the factory harness that is at least water resistant. The solderless clamshell splices available at auto parts stores don't appeal to me.

If you are going to use the numbers below to order parts, double check them as things can change over time, so it's going to be up to you to verify you're getting the correct part when ordering. If you find a mistake please let me know so I can correct it.

5th Gen 1500 Handle and Cap Part Numbers
These should work on any of the 2019 and newer 5th gen 1500 trucks. Harnesses are going to be more specific based on your options, or you can just add the 2 wires and plugs to your existing stuff and save a good bit of money.

The following is a breakdown of the parts you will need to assemble your own 2-wire harnesses for the doors, as well as the rear antenna. All of the connectors and terminals can be found at Mouser or Digikey, except for the Yazaki stuff.

Rear Antenna Wiring Parts
22AWG wire (2 colors to make it easy)
Heat shrink tubing (recommended)
Braided wire sleeve (recommended)
Rear PE Antenna: 52112204AA or 56046957AA should work in this location
2019 & 2020 Rear Fascia Connector Terminals: TE Connectivity 1241380-1
2019 & 2020 Rear Fascia Connector Wire Seals: TE Connectivity 828904-1
2021 Rear Fascia Connector Terminals:
2021 Rear Fascia Connector Wire Seals:
2019+ Rear Antenna Connector Shell: TE Connectivity 1-1438608-5
2019+ Rear Antenna Connector Shell Terminals: TE Connectivity 1355717-1
2019+ Wire Seals for Antenna Terminals: TE Connectivity 963530-1

Door Handle Wiring Parts
18AWG wire (2 colors to make it easy)
Heat shrink tubing (recommended)
Braided wire sleeve (recommended)
Door Connector Terminals: Aptiv 10762775
Door Handle Connector Shell: Yazaki 7283-6079-30
Door Handle Connector Shell Terminals: Yazaki 7116-4720-02

Yazaki parts are hard to find without ordering minimum quantities. One option is to call SMD Inc, and see if they’ll send you free samples (2 connectors, 4 terminals).

Any one done just the drivers door and left the AP setting for the passenger blank? I really onle need it for the driverside, figure it would be way easier to do this. Also anyone put a meter on the door handle and measured resistance on the wires? It says smart switch, but curious if it is just a contact closure or not.

Yes, I did my drivers door and then a year later did the passenger. Of course, I didn't route the wire properly and when the window was rolled down, it pulled the wire out. So, still don't have the passenger door done.

It's definitely not a simple open/close switch.

Did you have any issues or lack of function just doing the drivers door? Did you just change the one setting for the AP on the door you installed?

I just installed the driver's door handle and set the settings in AlfaODB. I hadn't even installed the rear antenna. Everything worked fine. Then installed the rear antenna a few days later. Everything still worked fine. Not sure what AP is, but I just followed the guide.

Maybe i missed it or overlooked it, in the process of building my own harnesses

On the door handle connector slot 1 and 2 not sure which one is for 4c and 14c

Same issue on driver side

Which one is 4c and 5d

Thanks

I have finally finished my doors and three work but the forth one wont.
the driver rear wont function as passive, and it also wont lock or unlock when it is open, neither from the remote or door switches. But if it is closed it will respond to remote and door switch commands….
i switched the handles and caps with doors that work and no change…
i have unhooked all the new wiring and no change….

what is happening here?

went out this morning to put trims back on and now the driver rear will not lock or unlock at all by switch or remote.

Just got your private message. It’s hard for me to say for certain, but have you made sure that you’re tapped into the correct wire on the drivers side for the rear door passive entry? If I remember correctly, there were several wires with similar color patterns that could easily be mistaken for one of the correct wires.

If you’re positive you have the correct wiring identified, double check that your wire taps are piercing the wires adequately. I had a similar problem with my rear doors, and it ended up being the wire tap did not pierce the wire so it wasn’t making contact with the new section of harness.

Without seeing your situation, those would be my two guesses.
