5th Gen Stock Stereo Upgrade Options?

So, getting ready to replace the headliner speakers, figure'd I would go ahead and repin the adapter which was a pain, but finally got it down. The covers for the rear headliner speakers are TIGHT. Held in by 4 clips, one on each corner. Once you get one pulled out the rest are pretty easy, but the first one is tough. However, it appears the polarity for the headliner speakers are NOT reversed, therefore I repinned the adapter for nothing. Also, mounting the headliner speakers is going to be a pain as there is zero room. The plastic housing around it does not allow you to spin the speaker at all, so the mounting holes do not line up, and as it sits, even if you were going to make new holes, you could only make one in the back. The front part is open for the plug.
Can you clip the terminals off of the basket of the JBL so they are floating as opposed to fixed that way the speaker can sit in the factory location?

Doesn't look like there would be enough slack. I don't mind making an extra hole, but will have to rig some sort of bracket up for the front.

Please snap some pics of the finished product, depending on your opinion whether it improves things or not I'll probably do the same as you.

Will do. Something as simple as a Z bracket folded over the top of the inside would work. I'll have to do some measuring and see exactly how much room I have to play with to still be able to get the speaker in the hole. May have to wait until next weekend to figure something out. I've gotta order some more harnesses because I don't want to repin the darn things again. I should have verified before I did it, but seeing as everything else was backwards, I figured the headliner speakers were too.

Yeah those little suckers are a PITA to repin. The first one took me about 10 minutes because I kept trying to finesse it, finally went for the brute force method to get the wires out. The other too only took a minute to swap after that.

Does anyone have photos of the HK 3.5’s they took out? Curious to what they look like quality wise.

I’ll post a pic for you tomorrow when I’m back in the shop. Shoot me a reminder if I forget please. FWIW. It’s a 2way 3.5 inch speaker.

Just received the ANC bypass harnesses. took me a while to track down connectors that will work.

PAC audio pn: APH-CH01

If anyone is curious about possibly doing a separate DSP/Amp setup without having to hack the factory wires.

Color codes aren't exact but wont be hard to wire it up. some wires wont be used and i'll just unpin whatever I don't need.

Have you had a chance to drive on the hwy with your new speakers wired all in the same phase? I am interested to see of ANC is still effective with this new wiring.
Well after a 450 mile road test with the polarity all put in order the ANC worked flawlessly. As long as your ANC is working like its supposed to with all the factory speakers in place swapping to aftermarkets shouldn't cause issues as long as you check the polarity on the factory speakers and make sure the replacements match. It sounds like @YoAdrian may have had phase issues straight from the factory that were causing ANC issues, if thats the case I'm guessing a little more troubleshooting will have to take place to get the phase set correctly and see if that remedies the ANC issues. I know he found some stuff out of phase but not matched pairs out of phase which is a little different from what others are finding.

I would venture to guess that all speakers found out of phase are probably the same speakers per HK and Alpine setup. Most likely done on purpose which blows me away since each amp has a DSP. 25yrs ago, okay, but no reason now.

That's great to hear that ANC still works with aftermarket speakers. It makes me wonder why FCA would bother wiring certain speakers purposely on different phases as @sswails1 said.

So final conclusion, test all new speakers with polarity app to verify amp output AND speaker wiring result in sound being in common phase for all speakers.

according to crutchfield my speakers have arrived, so the adventure for me will begin. I look forward to applying the install tips you pioneers have laid out in great detail !

Most likely for imaging and timing. Makes no sense with a DSP that probably has built in time alignment.

Can anyone tell me what exactly the Can bus does or controls for the standalone ANC and radio? Can it be unplugged without any problems?

The buffered cranke position feeds engine rpm information into the amp, the sound of the motor is actually piped into the cab through the speakers it works hand in hand with the ANC and the active vibration dampers mounted to the frame. The can IHS is the interior high speed bus, this how the uconnect controls the settings for the door locks amongst other interior controls I couldn't tell you everything it does nut I know there a lot of interior controls in the uconnect settings screen. Whether everything will continue to work or not if they are unplugged I couldn't tell you. Trial and error my friend.

ok, thanks.

I have my harness made up and temp installed for testing. I left the can bus and crank wires connected to the ANC unit and directly connected the radio/speaker inputs and outputs together (bypassing the ANC module) just to see if I still get sound... good news is stand alone ANC is not or has no amplifier effect at least from what I can tell. All functions of the radio still work/sound as normal. Also, balance/fade/eq/loudness are all good to go and still work properly without ANC . Not sure about speed/sound adjust as I have it off anyways so doesn't matter.

was just curious to see if the ANC module can be taken out of vehicle completely if needed. would be very convenient to place the Audio control d4-800 DSP/amp in that location since the harness is right there beside it. The harness I purchased allows me to keep ANC installed and modify the speaker leads on both connectors so I don't have to cut factory harness at all. I may end up putting Amplifier under passenger seat instead.

Actually my harness setup will allow me to unplug the ANC completely to test what funtions I might lose by completely removing the module and still have radio working in the process. I may try but as of right now everything works as planned and I'm not sure if I should or not.

I'll put up a picture of the completed harness when I'm finished if anyone might be interested.

Anyone have any experience or input on powerbass speakers? They make a line of 2 ohm 6x9s and a 7" mid woofer that are priced right and shallow. Plus they match the sensitivity of the dash jbl's.

So what is going to need be done to add a sub and amp?

So I repinned the metra plugs for the doors today.
They were definitely reversed.
Now they sound like they should.
I took a quick drive around the hood, the low rumble seems to be gone. But I was only at 25 mph. Ill see tonight if it fixed that issue.

Am I the only one that the JBL dash speakers dropped right in for? I did no trimming. Just a little wiggle to get them in. They do have to go in a certain direction. If they dont for, turn is 180 and try again.

Did check to see if the dash was out of phase as well?
