5.7l vs 6.4l. RAM 1500 vs Grand Wagoneer.

I haven't researched it, but what does the SRT actually signify? I know it means Street Racing Technology, but the hellcat is also an SRT engine and it has a supercharger. It would appear that the 6.4 SRT does not, because that's definitely not supercharger horsepower.

In basic terms it means that it has a high performance engine and revised performance suspension.

SRT had both NA (6.1L, 6.4L, 8.3L) and FI (2.0L, 3.2L, 6.2L) engines.

It was launched in 2003 to compete with (back then) Ford’s “SVT” and GM’s “SS”

The GM is hamstrung by range anxiety, 6.2 liters of displacement needs more than a 24 gallon tank

Great. This video prompted me to order a GW. Thanks.

You guys are dreaming small time. You want to dream? Dream BIG!

Hellephant 426 Supercharged Hemi crate engine by Mopar. 1,000 hp, 950 ft. lbs torque. Grab both your credit cards and the wife's and head to the shop to get it installed.

In a pickup? Nah....

Sounds like the Hennessey Mammoth :devilish:

I. for one, would trade my 5.7 Ram in a heartbeat for an SRT derived 6.4 Ram. Having had an SRT Challenger, the extra 100 HP/TQ would be a welcome upgrade. That was a fantastic engine, and it wasn't any less fuel effecient in a sporty car than it would be in a 1/2 ton truck. In fact I got 26mpg on a trip from central Ohio to Gettysburg in that SRT, no reason a truck couldn't approach that.

Speaking of that I was scrolling through the new Mopar Direct Connection catalog and they sell a supercharged 345 Hemi crate motor… My guess is that would just bolt right up wouldn’t it?🤣

but yes, Hellephant is the ultimate!

Judging by this comparison a 6.4 in the Ram would get similar or better mileage. I’m in the same boat - I would buy one immediately.

One thing I will say is at least the 5.7 is a very competent engine and I still think it’s more than capable for this truck. This is not the case with Chevy’s 5.3 which doesn’t seem much stronger than the pentastar, and jumping to the 6.2 is a monster. The 5.7 really seems to be right in that sweet spot that Chevy misses.

But yes. I’ll still take the 6.4!

So interesting. Couple of threads on this forum with people wanting bigger engines in the 1500. And on the TRX forum, a couple of threads about people wanting smaller, more efficient engines in the TRX. Everyone wants what they don’t have lol

Aren’t they doing a 6.4 powered TRX?

No, just the 6.2 supercharged Hellcat. But 702 hp is better than the 400-something in the 6.4.
Given that FCA is discontinuing the Hellcat after 2023, we are all hoping they put a Redeye engine in the TRX. That would be awesome sauce.

Yeah that would be pretty sweet

My guess is they will hold out and see what Ford’s Raptor R does for power. Then release a TRX Redline that one ups it.

I think the sweet spot they’re missing is a 6.4 rebel. That would basically eat the old 6.2 raptors, and even compete with the current raptor….until the R arrives.

I haven't read the TRX forum reads, what are their rationales for wanting "less" in the TRX? Are they talking the 6.4 from the HD, or an e-torque type system?

Eh, couple of dudes bought a $90k truck that gets 8-11 mpg, and are complaining about the cost of gas. They're getting slaughtered.
Most of the talk is about de-tuning it to a lower horsepower.

The SRT 6.4 makes 471 HP, and 455 lb/ft of torque, compared to 395 hp and 410 lb/ft of torque.

Maybe you find 75 hp insignificant, but I don't, especially considering it doesn't hurt mpg and will probably even improve on it.
He was probably comparing to the Ram HD 6.4L output of 410 hp, 429 lb-ft
Actually I was talking about the 5.7 vs the GM 6.2 lol

Obviously the SRT 6.4 is a beast. Would be great to have that in something like a 1500, same way I like the idea of the JCG SRT. But that would be much more expensive (have you seen the price tags on these Wagoneers?) and complete overkill for the vast majority of people.

I'm not talking about a Ram SRT package like you find in the Jeep/Challenger/Charger. I'm just asking for the exact same Ram 1500 bighorn that I have now, with a $2000 to $3000 option to get the 6.4 engine from the SRT lineup. That's it. I just want that engine in my truck.

I don't know how you guys find this overkill when the 5.7 is now the least powerful engine you can get in a halfton. GMC + Chevy have the 6.2, Ford has the 3.5 turbo, Toyota destroys everyone at this point with their turbo hybrid, and even Nissan is rated a few HP higher on premium.

A 6.4 N/A that doesn't cost you in MPG over the 5.7? Ram please take my money.
