I guess it’s a mute point because I am getting the 3.92 either way for towing purposes but I was curious if anyone knows what mpg differences to expect with the 3.92 instead of the 3.21

I am not sure of the EPA thought on this. But if you will tow at all, or feel the need for acceleration the mpg will not be very far apart. The 3.21 will only be a benefit if you do almost all highway and drive like there is an egg under your accelerator.

But if you drive very mpg minded, and have no extra payload it will help. If you like to blast from stoplight to stoplight, or always have passengers and payload...3.92 would atleast be near the same, and possibly better. And if you even think you are going to go with a larger and/or wider tire...

3.55 has always been the best of both worlds, but it all really depends on your driving style.

3:55 isnt an option though as far as i can see correct??

with the Hemi, no it is not. It was just a statement of what is the happy medium.

But the V6 does offer 3.55 just not 3.92.

Wonder why they don't offer it with the Hemi?

I wonder that too.

I know you used to be able to get 3.55 with the Hemi in the early 4th gens (with the 5 or 6 speed auto).

I think since the 8 speed came, they only have 3.21 and 3.92 for Hemi half tons.

My 2013 Hemi w/ 8 Speed has the 3.55 gears, but I think they discounted that 2014.

Also maybe with the V8 + eTorque Option and the V6 std. etorque will most likely effect . . . especially "off the line," heavy or light footed !? Time will tell ? I tend to be Conservative in my driving; once in awhile I'll Liberal-it-up when feel like having a bit of Fun & don't see a cop around the corner - but just for a brief bit-O-fun ! Yup talking about my V6 G.C. ! Of course goes without saying when I had the Hemi 2003 1500 !

etorque will be interesting. Probably more advantage with 3.92 (vs 3.21 gears) since it wont have to work as hard off the line? Or maybe the opposite if engine kicks in sooner due to slightly higher RPM?

Well then that defeats the purpose entirely doesn't it ? So I sort of disagree ? One of the main reasons for / function of, the eTorque ( as seen on the videos right here from the Car-Show Reveals )  IS the Boost of the line to help with Early Acceleration, among a few other functions like charging and aiding the stop/start system function better ( I hope !) !

I meant if etorque will have better advantage with 3.92 gears than with 3.21 gears. Either way it will be an improvement, but will it have more significant improvement based on what gear ratio you get?

Moot point for me anyway, as its 3.92 or nothing for me.

No; yea I think it will help all the geared options ! It's just that , for me, I prefer the mpg improvement with the V6 more so over the improved mpg with the V8 irregardless of gear choice ! Of course IF the darn thing doesn't live up to expectations, RAMS & Ours, then yea, "moot" it is !

Last time I built my Choice for the Fall V6's - if not mistaken? - they were optioning the 3.55 for like just $95 ? That still a thing ? I should go re-recheck !

A little off topic from the thread, but i wish they would have put a more aggressive etorque with the 3.6 V6. Buyers opting for the 3.6 are doing so for efficiency, but sacrifice a lot of torque (especially when compared to the 2.7 ecoboost). Why not put the 130 (hemi version) at least with the 3.6? IDK maybe the +90 lbft off the line will feel like enough.

Funny I was wondering that as well when I first saw the RAM guy explain the systems -- makes sense to us ! The V6 COULD use that potential, or should I say seems would Like to have it, as opposed to the V8 which HAS that Oomph off the line ! Perhaps it's Size & location issues of the unit ! ? ? ?

The real-world economy difference between a 3.92 and 3.21 is almost inconceivable. Buy a 3.92.

I'm going to have to agree with @BobbiBigWheels go with the 3.92s especially if you ever plan on adding bigger tires or a lift etc.

I got the 3.92 for this very reason. I test drove a Laramie with the 3.21 and knew it wouldn’t be sufficient once the wheels were swapped. My truck with the 3.92 scoots!

I went with the 3.21s.....having two trucks with 3.55s I really wish Ram would offer that rear end. From my research - the 3.92 in 8th gear is the same final drive ratio as the 3.21s in 7th gear.

90% of the time it's just me in the truck....we'll see soon if I made the right choice! I'm planning on taking a slight MPG hit going to Ram from my 2.7l ecoboost....didn't want the hit of 3.92s as well (I drive 30,000 miles a year).

I am definitely getting the 3.92. I do tow a fair amount and coming from a 2500 Cummins I need it to be set up for towing the best it can be haha. I can’t believe it is over a 3k# towing difference on these trucks just bumping up to the 3.92 rear. For those of you that have driven both do you think the 3.92 is much faster?

I have, back to back. Can't really tell a difference. Getting out of my F150 and into the Ram, I could.
