2025 Ram 1500 Current Owners - Discussion, Feedback, and Problems

The dashboard (Instrument Panel Cluster).

CarPlay displays (Apple) maps info on the dashboard.
Apple Maps turn-by-turn shows up in the HUD

Thanks! Now that y'all say that I think I remember reading that before.

I always use Google Maps, so I have never actually seen it (turns in the IPC) myself.

Maybe a case to try Apple Maps and HUD? 😂

My brother was just telling me that in the last few months Apple Maps has seemed to do a better job for him than Google Maps.

I just don't want to switch because of all the saved places I have in Google Maps.

But, if I do try Apple Maps, I still don't see turning the HUD back on... :D

Ditto. I do like the Waze for info about road conditions and such (and LEOs). But sometimes Waze likes to take me some very crazy back-country routes.
Agree. Sometimes I’ll navigate with both at the same time, keeping Waze on my head unit and alerts on but have Apple Maps also navigating and it goes to the IPC.

Side note, I like Apple Maps for non-highway navigation the best because of its 99% accuracy of traffic light locations.

Ditto again, on running Waze with Apple Maps simultaneously.

I used to use Waze exclusively. Then something changed and it started giving me routes that were just ... BAD.

After a week or two of that I changed back to Google Maps. But now, very recently, it seems like Google may be starting to do some of that, too.

I can't help wondering if it's something they are doing on purpose to try and actively shape traffic. Purposely sending people on "worse" routes to pro-actively distribute traffic instead of sending everyone down the same path.

Being that Google owns Maps and Waze, it seems plausible that, if they did something like that, they would implement it in one app and also add it to the other as well.

When Google bought Waze, they agreed to stay outta it. They really, basically have which is why Waze’s UI isn’t the best.
I used to use Google maps then they added all the garbage into it and it became overwhelming.

I have not, really. But, was actually looking at the Uconnect nav over the weekend and I think I want to give it a real try. It looked like it might actually be really nice. It looked like it might have some features that could be really handy. I need to play with it some.

But, an example of how Google Maps does NOT work well sometimes: I was trying to come home from visiting some family on Sunday. Google routed me down a road out of town. About a mile down, there was apparently a huge accident, and the police had the road closed. Everyone was turning around.

Okay, well, I could not figure out any way in Google Maps to just say "detour me around the next 1/2 a mile".

I ended up driving back a ways from where I turned around and then pulling over so I could actually back up and have it show me all the alternate routes and pick from one.

If there's 3 route options and 2 of them are an extra hour, but the short one just needs a detour that would only add 10 minutes, those route options that Google gives you don't give you that choice. Very annoying and not at all ideal.

The Uconnect nav looked like it might even have that kind of option.

It's VERY hit or miss. The search feature is super clunky and downright doesn't work at times (trying to say something like "directions to McDonalds"). I do like that it will show more detailed nav info on the digital gauge cluster if you have it on the Map page -- really cool to see you actively moving on that screen.

Every few months I try to use it and I immediately go back to Apple or Waze maps.

Nobody using the U Connect TomTom maps? :ROFLMAO:
I end up using the factory TomTom nav for the most part. I’ve been switching between all the maps for routes in my area, where I already know where I’m going, and TomTom usually makes the route that I would normally take to various places throughout town.
All the others usually make routes that leave me scratching my head, like “why the heck would it take me that way”. So, for the most part, I just end up using factory nav.
