2022 Orders

Nobody knows what they’re going to do with the trucks that are in D1 presently, or the ones waiting to go into D1. If 2021 production is any indication, then trucks could languish in D1 for weeks or months.
I’m hoping/thinking that they’re trying to be smarter now - only using D1 for true “parts on hand” trucks.
Obviously, there are a LOT of parts that go into these trucks. If they suffer any kind of setback on a part (even ones on hand - imagine a box of defective display screens), it could force them to rearrange the lineup.

It's definitely going to be interesting to see how they navigate parts shortages. It does make sense for them to produce the most expensive trims with the largest number of chips first, when in a shortage. Wider profit margins and it's easier to complete those trucks now instead of later.

I'm also curious to see the type of trucks that end up on lots and how they are equipped.

I have a dog in this hunt too…I’m waiting for my Rebel. But I don’t think we can “know” when a particular truck will be built. We can only watch the overall trends, and try to glean info on the bigger picture of the assembly process.

If that’s the case, then they’ll just build TRX’s.
And to be honest, more than 50% of the trucks I’ve heard of (going into D1) are TRX’s. But take that with a grain of salt - there are just more TRX people out on the forums than other trims. So it’s a function of the sample set.

sounds like the opinion of someone with an expensive trim package :)

Margins matter. I wouldn't be surprised to hear that the margin on a TRX is smaller than a Limited or a Longhorn.

I would. TRX’s are selling as high as $130k at dealers right now for in-stock inventory. They’re certainly the hottest selling Ram truck right now.

I think this will come after Labor Day too.

RAM doesn't get anymore money than what they sell them to the dealers for. I agree that it's the hottest truck but not sure it makes them the most money.

I can't believe Ram, who wants to dethrone Ford and Chevy/Gmc, wouldn't have updated the site by now. Ridiculous.
Everything is kind of a mess right now. Ford's profits tanked HARD and it's taken forever for GMC/Chevy to get their refreshed interior out. I think Ram (and all the rest) are just trying to make sure they don't implode over the next year or so.

Yeah, I just view it as something you make because you can and arguably should. There's a market for it no doubt but what goes into that truck, or a Raptor, ain't cheap.

Exactly. It makes the dealers more money but the invoice cost is the invoice cost.

I know one thing if I don’t have my truck at least scheduled to be built my November I’m cutting my loses. I don’t like waiting for anything let alone a 60k+ purchase

I think November is a good number for me as well. I'm sure it will be built buy then, but if I'm going to wait months, I might as well wait for f150 lighting.

You don’t like waiting and yet you chose to order a vehicle in the midst of unprecedented material shortages with plenty of evidence of the issues already causing problems for other huge car manufacturers? Alrighty.

No disrespect intended, to each their own, but this “if I have to wait months” train of thought doesn’t jive with the process of ordering a vehicle in current conditions. Waiting months, maybe many months, was always going to be required.
