2022 Orders

I agree but hopeful that they've worked out some of the bugs since other models already have this radio.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think any other vehicle has a 12" UC5. Just like when the 2019 1500's came out, several other vehicles already had UC4, but none had the 12" UC4.

Not to be that guy, but I can all but guarantee this is just the start. I had multiple issues with the my 2019's UC4, and after all the trips back and forth to get stuff fixed (that would never really get fixed), I figured out that the issues can be ephemeral but horribly disruptive, and dealers (I went to multiple) don't know how to deal with them because I was typically the first one reporting the issue in my area.

The worst part is, that as one of the first people to have this truck, your dealer isn't going to know what to do to fix it because there isn't likely to be a service bulletin about the issue, yet. And, given that this particular issue only rears its ugly face when you are out of cell service range, your dealer won't know how to replicate it because they aren't likely to drive your truck 50 miles outside of town to see what happens.
Wonder if sticking it in airplane mode makes it have the same issue or if it truly is just a loss of signal.

I would like to correct you, but you are already correct. :)
Nothing has the 12" vertical screen but the software behind it is the same. I can see display issues, but actual operation is the same. PLUS, this operating system is the basis for all the screens in the new Grand Wagoneer. If it can't handle our single 12" display, what's it going to do with the pile of screens in there?

I only took a few programming classes in college (degree in applied and computational math, not comp. sci.), but as I understand it, the UC5 12" would require different software, if only for the GUI, to properly display on the 12" screen. But, I'm not a software expert or implementation engineer, so WTF do I know? All I know is that I almost sold my 2019 just a few months after I took delivery due to all the UC4 12" implementation issues.

The UC5 radio module is the exact same part number between the 12” and 8.4” screen. The BCM dictates to the radio module what screen size it is displaying on.

Well, then we should expect the 8.4" screens to have some issues, as well.
HD’s already have a TSB software update released last week for the 12” and 8.4” UC5.
No symptoms like the member here is describing though. No TSBs or STAR cases for the DTs, yet, either.

Sorry this post is so long, but I thought everyone would enjoy the exchange I just had with one of Ram chat’s finest. Sorry for the misspellings and other grammatical errors , but I was typing as fast as I could before they cut me off!

April (10/11/2021, 7:37:54 PM): Congratulations on your new vehicle purchase! Welcome to the Family! I can absolutely look into this here for you. Please allow me a brief moment and I will be back with your new vehicle order update.
April (10/11/2021, 7:40:02 PM): Thank you so much for holding. I am showing that your order is in the scheduling phase of the manufacturing process. The parts required to build the vehicle are being scheduled and as soon as they are available and ready, your order will be scheduled for build. Please reach out to the Selling Dealer as they may have a more accurate date of arrival or status for you.
April (10/11/2021, 7:40:10 PM): Is there anything else I can help you with today?
Me (10/11/2021, 7:41:22 PM): Is there anything in particular that is keeping me in D status so long? There have been numerous trucks for dealer stock that have already been built.
April (10/11/2021, 7:41:28 PM): no the 2022, 1500 models have just started last week, and we went on a shut down, so it may have delayed it
Me (10/11/2021, 7:41:57 PM): Actually they started the second week of September!
Me (10/11/2021, 7:43:10 PM): Any comment?
April (10/11/2021, 7:44:27 PM): we were told they started in october, and due to the shutdowns they were delayed, so if you can find out more info from the dealership, I would reach out to them again
Me (10/11/2021, 7:46:01 PM): We’ll the numerous build sheets and window sticks are contrary to your “information “. If this is a “Family”, you should be more transparent .
April (10/11/2021, 7:46:33 PM): ok well im sorry the dealership and ourselves have conflicting information, we go by what the factory tells us, that is all
Me (10/11/2021, 7:47:40 PM): Window stickers to dealership stock do not lie. This information is obtainable without you or the dealerships help.
April (10/11/2021, 7:47:59 PM): i dont even have a window sticker on this truck yet
April (10/11/2021, 7:48:17 PM): ok well im sorry we do not have the information you seek from us
April (10/11/2021, 7:48:56 PM): Is there anything else I can help you with today?
Me (10/11/2021, 7:49:18 PM): That’s because it hasn’t been built yet. Our forum that is full of knowledgeable individuals has been tracking all of the builds to day. There have been 2022’s rolling off the lot since early September.
April (10/11/2021, 7:50:02 PM): yes we all know that, and most are 5500, 4500, 3500, 2500 as stated
April (10/11/2021, 7:50:19 PM): the TRX and the 1500 were slow to start
Me (10/11/2021, 7:50:33 PM): They are not built at SHAP. Don’t play me for a fool.
Me (10/11/2021, 7:51:41 PM): All I’m asking is if there is anything in my order that may be causing a delay.
April (10/11/2021, 7:52:06 PM): not that i can see , i advised you to reach out to the dealership that sold you the vehicle, they can inquire more details

…and she then abruptly ended the chat. What a joke!

Grilling Ram chat for details to that level has proved fruitless for the most part. Your dealer is likely to have more info than chat, but probably still less than what you can find here.

I emailed my sales rep my window sticker like "bet you're wondering where I got this huh?"

Had been two days and she hadn't even bothered to notify me that my truck was built. I think the people you see getting solid interaction and decent info from outside this forum are the rare cases.

You realize you can turn the cell service off from your phone, right? Pretty easy to turn off the network, or put the phone in airplane mode which keeps Bluetooth on, and test.

Interestingly enough, I found this issue the first night I had the vehicle and when I brought it up to my sales guy he is the one that talked about how the uconnect system has issues when it isn't within good cell range. BUT I am gonna do a few test over the next few days to make sure it isn't an issue with my phone/bluetooth. (using a few different cell phones/devices with bluetooth) I will try to update at least once every few days. Wish me luck!

Yeap, its one of the controls I plan to run.

Does your truck have the built in LTE modem in the radio? I’m not sure if that in all models or only specific ones, like the Limited. That probably comes with a free trial period and it may be the thing creating problems when it loses signal. Not the phone. Could be way off base but just a thought.

All UC5 radios are “connected” radios. Whether or not the WiFi hotspot or ram connect services are working, subscribed to, set up, etc, should have zero bearing on the Bluetooth from phone to radio features and operation.

Yes, but each is a different scenario. Turning the radio of the phone off is not the same as the radio being on and not having service. In the first instance, the radio is not searching for a signal, in the latter, it is; it could be the searching to no avail is causing the problem. Either way, it looks like @thenachobro will be able to test both scenarios to see if he gets the same result.

Could have sworn I saw somewhere the subscription fee for the internet connectivity. There is a difference between the radio having a built in WiFi hotspot, which just shares an internet connection, and having an internet connection period. But again, all just spitballing

Here is what I meant, for the trucks internet service it is $20 monthly through AT&T. There is a difference between RAM doing over the air for the purposes of providing updates, and providing general internet service. Which they don’t. It has to be subscribed to separately.
