2021 Stolen Ram Rebel 1500!

LOL, I don't disagree man. Heaven forbid I could have a gun to protect myself. Our government don't care about us, and ban the crap out of them. What gives?
In Michigan, even though we have an anti-gun Democrat governor, we are a shall issue carry permit policy. I have a CPL and carry. I still avoid the ghetto as much as possible. I carry hoping I don't have to use it.

Hey guys, Hope all is well.

I figured I'd come here and tell you all my story about my stolen 2021 Ram Rebel. I live in Toronto, Canada, and there's a ton of this happening all over the city. It's crazy, I'd say everyone probably knows someone who's had a stolen car. It's really bad right now.

Left the house early one morning mid August, to find no truck on my driveway. We're talking at 5:30am. I was pretty cheesed at the time. You hear about other people's cars getting stolen, and you always think not me, no way it'll happen and it did. lol. Whatever. Anyway, before I even called the police I checked the cameras, to see a get a way car parked on a corner street, and two guys checking my truck out. I didn't see them do that antenna thing where they go to your front door, to steel the code from your fob. I kept it in a box anyway. They went under to cut the horn, and within a minute the lights lit up and flashed 3 times, but no horn as it was cut. They opened the door started and left all within a minute. I don't understand why car manufactures aren't really moving to fix this issue, it's as they know we'll be right back buying another truck.

So I called the police and they took the information, ask me to setup Sirius satellite tracking with Sirius Guardian, which I wish I never did, as it was a waste of time and paying a month for that service. To this day they never found my truck. I dealt with Insurance and because of the amount of cars that are being stolen that they waved the 30 waiting period they set for stolen vehicles and sent me an offer not even a week later. 5 days and I had an offer. It's like they know it's already long gone. lol. The truck was only 2 years old so I had the full replacement value of the truck if stolen within 3 years, so that was great. But that week was crazy man, made me feel like I was bi-polar with all the emotions I felt. It started with I was sad that it was gone, because I loved that truck so much. I wasn't ready to lose it yet, as it was still new. But, it had a new tranny put in it as the original one failed, had a few dings. Then a few days later I started getting mad and pissed off. Lost a lot of faith in society that day. You truly feel violated. Not even 50ft from where you're sleeping there's idiots prancing outside your house. It's ridiculous. Stayed pissed off for a few days, one big reason was I bought that truck at the start of covid when all the dealerships were offering 0%. Where the hell am I getting that today? I won't. Then I made my first trip to the dealer and set my eyes on a beautiful 2023 Ram Rebel GT edition, fully loaded. Made a deal that day, and my pissed off feeling turned to excitement. lol. I swear the emotions were real man. Was a ride for sure. Anyway, I'm loving this GT edition, with the removal of the dial shifter, and brought back the old school shifter in the middle console, cold air intake, beefier exhaust. The truck is amazing. Has the ram box, slip tail gate (which I really didn't want, but it was that or wait for a factory order, and that would take months which I couldn't wait for. I also had a compustar emobilizer installed. Essentially an electronic kill switch, and Insurance is forcing us here in Canada if you have a highly wanted vehicle that they pay for, but install a thing called Tag Tracking. I believe it's a Quebec based company. It's not alive and doesn't track your daily trips, it's only activate it when it's needed. It's separate from the tracking they offer to keep your insurance lower the way you drive. It's different than that. If you don't install this Tag tracking, then they will add $500 to your yearly premium. The one downfall with it, is they etch your driver and passenger side windows with their logo. Supposed to be a deterrent. Whatever, better to have a piece of mind, is how I'm looking at it.

Anyway that was my experience of having a truck stolen right off your driveway. I truly don't think the car manufacturers are in a rush to fix this, as people such as myself will be right back purchasing a new truck, because it's what we live for. Thanks for reading, all the best.
Up side is, you got a GT. I posted about moving the horns up to deter this horn tampering from happening. I also had a ghost II immobilizer installed in December 2022 on my new rebel GT. It requires a sequence of buttons (what ever you’ve chosen to set) to be pressed for the vehicle to run. Also, it has a hijack mode, if you’re stopped at a light and someone opens your door, once that door is opened and closed, there’s a flashing light on the dash indicating for the sequence of buttons to be entered, if they aren’t entered within a few minutes, the next time the vehicle comes to a stop when applying the brakes, the engine will shut down until the code is entered. There’s also a valet mode for when it’s in for service so your mechanic can start the vehicle without your code. I mentioned this to my insurance company and got no discount at all. Btw, I’m a mississauga resident ✋

Congrats on your rebel GT. Just checked out that truck for my friend and I’m at the edge of trading in this 2022 laramie already (which I just got in July)

I travel from London - Toronto - Markham frequently. I know how you feel. Nothing will stop these thieves from stealing our trucks! In fact my friends Raptor was stolen last summer! Best bet is to install kill switch.

Tried asking my local dealership for installation but they’re too busy. I know they install them because my friend bought a trx off them with kill switch..

Trying to figure out what I want to do security wise for my ram and ran into this thread. I have a tazer in my charger. There are pros and cons to every security system. I actually like the tazer because there are trying to fix something that dodge/ram won't.

With that said, first time they introduced the pin feature it did fry my rf hub and had to get it towed. $1600 , new rf hub, and 2 brand new keys and the charger is fine again. They 100% stand by their product and they reimbursed me for the entire repair.

I still have the tazer installed on my charger and it has gotten better over time. Yes, even if you remove it, as long as you have the pin setting it will kill the gas petal. But here is the thing why I like it...it's not just for security, it's for Performace as well. It unlocked other features for me...like disabling mds, keep sport mode on, and gave me line lock and engine cooling when it's off.

But it should not be the only thing used. Having multiple layers will make any their waste more time and just give up.

With that said, I haven't bought the tazer for the ram yet because I'm holding out on when the ram ev will come out and I would get that instead. (Go ahead and give me cr@p for getting an ev...lol... for me, I use the truck but I drive very short distances and my commute to work is literally 5 miles round trip...but that's for another thread).

I love the Tazer Pin Code feature.

Just bought 2023 longhorn. Picking up it Friday. Is it still unprotected? Not calling insurance yet, I living in rural, may be they will not require nothing. But I travel to Toronto a lot.

I have Audi Q7 2021 and it's impossible to steal as I know, even if they use radioextender and start it, they will not able to get a key, only way yo find people with audi online access. Chinese audi dealers can do it remotely for 10 times less than Canadians dealerships, also remove component protection. But only if vehicle not in audi database of stolen vehicles. Actually it's a way, replace all modules with component protection, including ECU. Or to repair totaled vehicle in accident. So I can't say audi cannot be stolen, but only by special request of for parts.
It also internet connected and tracable, but I think it's easy to disconnect data module.

So, does 2023 RAM protected?

No, your 2023 Longhorn is not any more secure than a previous model. If you want to protect your truck from theft, consider installing an IGLA or Ravelco.

I was looking at videos on YouTube and ram trucks are very popular amongst thieves in Canada. I don't think Ram has made any improvements. I would get a tazer for it the pin lock is a great feature bye it self.

Get yourself a ghost II immobilizer, guaranteed that your vehicle won’t be stolen, unless a flat bed tow truck is used. Also has hi-jack mode, so if you’re sitting at the lights and someone demands you get out, once the drivers door opens and closes, the system requires you to enter the same code it requires to start the vehicle. If they drive off without that code, within a block or so, the vehicle will shut down at the next moment they apply the brakes to stop. Brilliant!!

Very easy to defeat
I know it's easy to defeat, but for those 1st timers or someone who is not quite professional enough, it may deter them and then you buy a lottery ticket that day. lol

That's why I thought it was funny when that was KIAs temporary solution to the rampant theft of KIAs

The more features added/used, the more likely for issues. I don't use a lot of the live settings personally. Don't need kill honk, even if my truck had the honking, i wouldn't use it as I don't get out of my truck, while it's running, enough to bother me. don't have different drive modes to worry about. Don't have different keys for different power levels that complicate the RF Hub.......

To me, just from what I've seen on this forum, and the examples being given from the TRX forum, it appears the TRX owners are having more issues. Probably just because the electronics in the TRX are different enough to cause problems non-TRX owners won't have.

Google search turns up quite a few people having issues with IGLA on their vehicles, so I wouldn't say it's less issue free. Maybe there just aren't enough on TRX forums using it to hear about issues. Also, since it has an app, it can be hacked. There are even reports of the IGLA and similar devices being hacked. I mean really, any electronic device will have reports of not working properly. Just depends on how much you want to read about issues, and who is giving you the information. You have one of the most vocal people in TRX forum that is an installer z and he sure as hell isn't going to talk bad about a product he makes money on. Even if he has had to deal with issues from customers.

To the OP, IMO, the TazerDT is a viable option. That's from personal use. As with any aftermarket parts use at your own risk. Do what makes you feel the most comfortable.
IGLA has never been hacked or bypassed, it gives off zero electronic signatures and has nothing to “hack”. The video you are referring to has already been proven as a fake. When you have hacker types make a product then you aren’t hacking it. Your right, IGLA does go bad, I just collected and sent back a box with 18 for warranty exchange. Thats 18 out of 10+ thousand in the last 2 years and most were because they were stuck in boot mode and couldn’t flash thrm. They receive them, troubleshoot and check logs or whatever they do and then address it so it doesn’t happen in the future. I don’t make money unless I install one. Giving information is free 🤷‍♂️
