I built a new 2021 Ram 1500 Limited that I took delivery of 3 weeks ago. I noticed when I first started driving it that it seemed to downshift rather harsh. Because it was new I thought maybe it was just tight and needed a few miles on it before I took it in for service. Well today it locked up in 5th gear and wouldn't downshift at all, of course the service trans and check engine light came on as well. I cant BELIVE a $71,000 truck with 1100 miles on it has trans issues
!!!! I hope this isn't handwriting on the wall for future problems! Waiting to hear from service dept. Anyone else have transmission problems?

I don't know why people think the MSRP of a vehicle has any relevance on why a component has a failure, it does not. Kia, selling you a $10k car doesn't want to see you come in for warranty/service any more than McLaren wants you to see you bring in your $385K 720S for a warranty issue, **** happens and that cost of the item has nothing to do with it. Give them a chance to determine what the issue is before all the doom and gloom

You sure you're not accidentally locking out higher gears with the gear limit switch?

Even if he was doing that, check engine light and service transmission light shouldn't come on.

I suppose if he was driving for a lengthy period of time with it locked down on 5th the truck might start throwing codes.

The computer will override you if you do something like that. It won't let you lug it or redline it.

Most automatic transmission issues are fluids related. Wear isn't an issue usually on a new transmission. Automatics need fluids to built pressure to change gears and shift. My bet is that the transmission was low from the factory. But a defective part or computer or random FCA gremlin isn't out of the question either. Just make sure you are happy with the fix and start mentioning it now that you'd prefer they swap you into a new truck. A decent dealer will get that ball rolling asap as with covid there are serious parts delays since all the parts come from across the globe. It may have worked fine in the past, but Just in time manufacturing is dead now for the foreseeable future.

I drove mine for 47 miles before the ACC light came on. Valve body replacement didn’t work and I’ve been waiting for a new transmission. I took delivery around 5:00pm and it was back on the dealer lot by 10pm. I literally spent more time in it waiting on a tow than I did driving it. 62F6C8EA-3556-46E4-90AF-D0F8AFB4209C.jpeg

Always keep in mind that people come to vehicle forums to report issues, it does not necessarily mean that the issue is widespread. When you read any vehicle forum for almost any vehicle, you'll encounter all kinds of problem reports that may or may not be typical. You need to look for a high percentage of problem reports before you should get nervous.

Unfortunately, virtually all cars and trucks will have a small percentage of major and minor failures, even if the problem reported is not a typical problem area with the vehicle. This sucks for the person it happened to, but it does not necessarily mean it'll happen to you too.

Oh how wonderful it must be to have a head office that actually cares. FCA Canada treats us as nothing more than a cash cow. No support whatsoever and I've even had a "Customer Care" :p rep hang up on me for no reason.

I am incredibly sorry to hear of your experience, it is not at all what we expect for our customers. While we are only able to assist customers located in the US, you can submit your info here to receive an email follow up from a Canadian customer care specialist on your situation: https://forms.chryslercanada.ca/contact/en/contactCCI.php?brand=dodge.

Thanks Mark. At the moment I consider myself fortunate to have found a dealership that seems to go the extra mile. Hopefully I won't need to deal with head office.

I drove a 2019 all new Ram 1500 for 13 months and 30k miles. Biggest POS I have ever owned. I went and traded it for a 2020 Ram 1500 Classic. My new classic is doing great with zero issues. Best bet is to get rid of the truck before it drives you crazy. Get a classic or maybe a Ford. I can't recommend any GM product with good faith except for Cadillac and they don't sell a truck, so...

It's funny how a hand full of reported problems receive attention, but the thousands not reporting a problem is dismissed.
