That's way worse than mine. I am pretty sure I tracked mine to the top idler pulley, the one on the right-side tensioner. I'm hopeful that they just swap it out and the problem is done.

Good luck with your issue. Hope the factory techs figure it out.

Any update? Mine just started making the same noise at 28K - the eTorque belt tensioner was already replaced.

$6.30 saves a lot of diagnostic money.

You can tell, the majority of the time, where the noise is coming from. At least then you know what you are looking at price-wise. If it's just an idler pulley, most people can replace themselves.
Even just a piece of hose to your ear, and move it around until the sound is loudest. People don't remember the shade tree mechanic secrets.

This is true. I've used that cheap stethoscope to diagnose a lot. Pullies, ticks, knocks, etc.

No, unfortunately the sound is the same, dealership still has it after 30+ days however a technician from Chrysler will be there tomorrow, fingers crossed they are able to diagnose it.

I wonder how many parts have already been replaced. Chrysler usually doesn’t get involved until all else fails.

From what i know they've already replaced all the pulleys and the E-torque MGU Chrysler rep indicated they should try to replace the crank pulley as well. This was supposed to happen Friday but haven't heard anything back from the dealership yet. Dealership has been pretty good about keeping me updated and doing what they can, can't fault them.

Update, spoke to my service advisor and now Chrysler rep is saying it's a bearing noise coming from the engine? It doesn't sound like they have a plan as to what to do next and I haven't heard anything from the RAM Cares team going on 50 days without my truck. To say i'm frustrated is the understatement of the century. I've babied this truck since new and changed the oil at 5k miles or sooner since I've had it, not sure I want it back at this point if it's going to need a new engine or top end at 18K miles. Curious if anyone else has had any similar experience and what the outcome was?

Replacing the crank pulley isn't going to fix that

That noise isn't internal to the engine, that's a bearing they've missed on some accessary drive on the front of the engine. Don't let them open that engine for that, take off all the belts and start the engine

My truck started doing the same thing, although about 10k less miles than yours. Did they ever figure it out??

Nope, still trying to figure it out three months later. Replaced the MGU, twice. All the pulleys twice as well. Ive heard nothing from Ram cares.

I have the same noise on my 2020 Ram Rebel. Luckily my issue started at 59,950 miles. 50 miles left on the warranty. My dealer said the the MGU is known to make noise and at one point Chrysler changed them but Chrysler stopped changing them because it’s expensive and the noise does not mean defective. They said I would need to contact Chrysler directly to come up with a solution because at the dealer level they could not do anything.

My 2020 Laramie 4x4 is doing the same thing at 24,000 miles. The dealer told me it needs a new "alternator"...which I have come to learn is the MGU and its on backorder with no ETA.

That’s what I was hoping the issue was, however they’ve replaced it twice with no joy. Along with all the pulleys twice, just throwing parts at it 4 months later…no truck. Beyond frustrated. Not even sure if they addressed the staking issue yet?

This is sort of baffling. There's only a few culprits:

Etorque (start/stop generator alternator)
Belt Tensioner Pulley
Idler Pulley
Coolant Pump
AC Compressor

Did they check the last two on the list? They've been known to make noise. I had an AC compressor make noise on another vehicle. The pulley still spins when it's off. Also, the coolant pumps have been known to make noise and whine as well.

As others have said, the crank pulley is affixed to the crank itself. This would not be a whine noise culprit.

Any updates?
I have had my 2020 Bighorn (5.7L) for only two months with 35k miles and it's starting to do this now. I scheduled an appt for the dealership last Saturday and of course it wasn't doing then when I took it and the service manager act like he had never heard of such an issue, and now it's doing it again. SMH

Probably need to get it replaced.
Covered under the 8 year 80k mile warranty at least.

Still nothing, after 120 consecutive days in the shop, speaking to a retention specialist now but have no confidence in anything being resolved. She called 2 weeks ago and said she was going to forward it for consideration to proactively buy it back or offer compensation if I decide to keep it for my inconvenience. A week went by and she called again and said the exact same thing apparently forgetting our prior conversation or just a stall tactic? She then said she'd get open a STAR case so a technician would call the dealership...I informed her they already did that months ago. One of my buddies was considering coming from a Raptor to a TRX and is watching this carefully and is having second thoughts; different truck however he can't believe their incompetence/indifference to the issue. He said even Ford treated him much better which is saying something. To the gents having similar issues I'm sorry you have the same problem hopefully it is the MGU/Alternator or a pulley so you don't have to go through this.

I do not have the whine, but did get an intermittent CEL at 20K miles that the shop narrowed down to an MGU. They happened to have the part in but when they replaced it the truck wouldn't stay running they said. A couple days later they narrowed that down to the brand new MGU was faulty. They put my suspect one back in and told me the same no ETA story that many of you are familiar with. Still driving it with the CEL being intermittent but no other symptoms. Fingers crossed...If anyone knows a better match of a thread to follow please reply and let me know.
