2019 rebel gas mileage with e-torque

This is to my job in Corpus sitting for 7 Day's then back to Houston again,

Mostly Cruise control 65-78 MPH depending on the speed limit and no Cruise for at least an hour of the Three and a Half hour drive when around Houston and a little more spirited driving on the way back almost no cruise control

1400 miles so far - I average about 14.5 with my Rebel - that’s w a 12 mile highway commute to work everyday & a slightly heavy foot ... best I got so far is 16, which was all highway miles through PA

I’m getting around 14mpg with a 23gal tank. 5.7, 3.92, e-torque.
Is this about normal?

Old truck was 2014, 5.7, 3.93 and got 19mpg with 26gal.

I have a 2017 RAM 1500 Limited with 3.92 gear ratio that gets 18.7 avg MPG. My new 2019 Limited with 3.92 and eTorq gets 15.6 after 1,300 miles and same driving. That's a VERY significant difference. Dealer says "give it a chance to learn". Make up 3MPG? I don't think so!

I noticed mine changed after the first 2000 and seems to have stabilized after 4000. My MDS rarely came on and now it stays on a lot more. There may be an algorithm that reduces the VVT and MDS during break-in.

I have not opened my rebel up yet as I just hit 1000 miles. average is 15 range. hopeing for better because I ahve the 23 gal tank. These should only be sold with the 33 gal tank. I hate pumping gas.

I don’t pump gas ( NJ ) but I totally agree these should come standard with larger tanks !

We’ve never been allowed to pump our own gas in the State of New Jersey sadly.

I have a 2019 Rebel with E Torque with 1500 miles on it. I average 9.5-13 mpg. My 2015 Rebel did WAY better.
I can’t afford to have a $57,000.00 weekend toy. It’s my Daily driver.
And the Start Stop bothers me more than I thght it would. Like when parking In garage I hit the brake and it shuts off, when I put it in Park it starts back up, then you gotta shut it off again. I’m really unhappy with the Truck.
I’m trading this in come summer if MPGs don’t go up to at least 16 mpg Average.

Highway driving 60-80 I can get up near 19 MPG. City driving with extended stops and stop/start at shops/fast food I can get 16.7 or thereabouts. I also keep MDS off at all times.
87 Octane, about 7k miles on truck now.

I believe the computer in the truck calculates the the MPG over the entire duration for a certain "trip." Definitely reset it before making a trip for a more accurate measurement, otherwise it will take some time to raise mpg back up.

What would you be trading it in for ?

I’d probably trade it for a new Jeep Gladiator Truck 6cyl or a 4 door wrangler.
I do like the Rebel but Gas is costing me almost as much as my truck payment. Honestly it gets worse MPGs than my 1994 Ford Bronco gets with the 351W lol.

^^^. Oh wow, now that I am really sorry to hear.

I really like the Rebel and I hope the truck breaks in like some say. But none of my other Rams including my last Rebel had this bad of gas mileage or had to be broken in. I really don’t understand how it can get 10+ MPGs less than my 2015 Rebel. I called the dealer and they didn’t offer any suggestions.

Rebel with out e-torque getting 17.5 city 19 highway 1500 miles on it. Took a 1000 mile trip week after I bought it. Got 16 mpg on trip.

Wow that's crazy, 9.5?!
I drive almost exclusively city and I'm getting 14.5 now. And I'm a younger guy and drive it as such, I don't have etorque either.
I get the feeling that MPG might decline once the magnaflow comes in

In your shoes? I would try
- A computer reset
- Try a tank or two of 89
- Leave start/stop on, annoying as it is, to see if it helps.

See what the next tank looks like.

I’ve tried keeping The Start Stop on and Off. A few weeks ago I took a 4 hour round trip all Highway driving and I only managed to get around 14.5 mpg. And that was going 55 mph the whole time.
I have a trip coming up from Kentucky to florida, If it don’t improve I’ll have to rent a car. Do you guys think it might be the E Torque that’s making it get such bad. MPGs?

Going to use some conservative assumptions here ... 4hr trip ~500 miles round trip. At ~14mpg that's ~34 gallons. At 20 mpg you would consume 25 gallons, so about 8-9 gallons more fuel. Roughly $20 delta at current gas prices. Is it really worth it to rent a car?
Sounds like you are still in a break in period also?
I'm not denying we are getting worse than anticipated efficiency, but maybe a break in, plus a pcm update (or something) will help things improve for all of us.
