California here too, Just got my renewal notice due September 30th. $711.00 for mine
How long is that new registration fee good for? 1 year, 3 years, 5 years? Either way, the amount there charging is outrageous.

here its $75ish flat. Not a BS property tax like it is in Cali. My 2004 Acura TSX and 2013 Viper are the same price. A truck here is $85 instead

Cheap.

I suspect mine will be $900 to $1000 this year and $850 next in Colorado.

A big part of that is the transportation improvement fee of $150. That's a recent addition, part of the gas tax bill. It's based on vehicle value, under $5,000 it's $25. It maxes out at $150 for vehicles at $50,000 or higher. This should go down as you own your truck longer.

When that gas tax bill came out a couple of years ago, people weren't too concerned over the .12 cent tax hike, however they should have been more interested in the registration increase based on vehicle value.

On a side note, California has over 21 billion in excess budget surplus this year, it's a record high. Yet they are still taxing the heck out of us.
