Hi, I just got my new ram last Saturday. We had the same start-jump issue when we test the truck but we thought it might be our driving problem, at least that was what the sales guy told us so. Today first day to work, it was fine in the morning but out of lunch it happened again, now I am pretty sure there is something wrong for my new truck. Then I found this thread, kinda too late since I paid off the truck already. Well this happens only randomly, I don't want to take it to my dealership and they kick me out because they can not repeat the problem over there. You said you took a video and showed them, can you tell me more detail how to take that video to prove the problem does exist? Also do you think it is a better idea to open a case with RAM before I go to my dealership for a repair?

Hi big ram,

You're always welcome to connect with us via direct message and we'd be glad to get a case started before your appointment. Keep us updated.

I have this problem from the first time we got into the truck. May 23, 2019. Happened at 200, 400, 450 miles. The dealer had the truck 18 days waiting for the problem to show itself and never did happen. I got the truck back and when i put the knob into drive, i wouldn't go anywhere. As before when i pushed the gas pedal to raise the RPM from 800 to 1100 it would usually BANG into gear and then work. This time it didn't. I video taped the RPM, KNOB Position and even turned the key off and re-did the start and again put it into drive and still would not move. I then hit the gas to 1300 RPM and BANG, it engaged the transmission. Only after i shared this video with the dealer did they understand. They have a transmission ordered but they can have their truck back. I too paid cash for the truck.

Update for you
We took our truck to dealership 4 days after we bought it. Lucky after many tries the mechanic had the problem reproduced. What they did was to replace the valve body for the transmission. I don't know what that is but they said it was like the brain of the transmission, the part cost about 1500. Anyway since the repair the problem didn't come back. Until yesterday, similar thing happened again, even worse. Once I turned the nob to D, the truck move forward slowly as expected. Then I hit the gas slightly, all of a sudden the truck jump forward again. I had to release the gas, let the truck slide by itself and I hit the gas again, and it jumped again. This kept happening 5 times before I can control the truck again. I am contacting ramcare here to reopen the case for me. The thing is my dealership said it was their policy to reproduce the issue before they can start a fix. I believe the problem is still there but I cannot guarantee that they can reproduce the problem when they test drive my truck. Also I think I can consider this as the second repair for the same problem, if they cannot fix after third repair, I will for sure file lemon car. Other than this possible transmission issue our ram actually is a very good truck.

You need a new tranny...same issue as me. My truck was at the dealer for three weeks with less than 200 miles on it..... Also I emailed some of the top officials and eventually someone called me and I received a bumper to bumper 7yr / 100,000 mile warranty as well. Don't settle for one months truck payment!

I feel your pain. They wanted to replace the valve body on mine as well but decided to replace the entire transmission. I have owned my truck for 52 days. It's been in the dealer's service department for 32 days. Ram care said they would call me on July 16 with an update. Can't wait for that conversation to take place!

Hello Ezzcue and big ram,
We sincerely apologize for the experiences you are having with your new trucks. This is not what we want to hear from our customers and understand your frustrations. We are glad to see that you are working with your dealers still and possibly our customer care teams. However, if you find you need an additional layer of assistance of an update on a pre existing case, let us know. Just send our team a private message with additional details.

Has there been any more developments on this issue? My 19 Ram has the same rev/lunge issue. The local dealer simply tells me they can't really do anything until it pops a code. Suggestions?

You need a new tranny....I had the same issue but even after receiving my new tranny the valve body eventually went so i had a rattle for almost two years until it completely failed. my issue is finally fixed after literally years of frustration and headaches trying to diagnose.

These Transmissions are incredibly sensitive to transmission fluid levels. And that gets exponentially more unpredictable depending on ambient temperature and transmission temperature . And sadly because bean counters chose not to provide a dipstick, technicians are too lazy or stupid to check fluid physically, instead relying on plug-in computer sensors.

I posted multiple remedies thst one can take (about a year ago) somewhere on this forum that has helped several people. When I first got my Ram it was slamming into gear on 123 and 321 shifts. And I mean SLAMMING! It has gotten better, but other issues persist. There is a throttle pedal lag when accelerating from a standstill. Aggravated when stop/start is functioning. When it does start from a start-stop situation, the engine torque rocks the truck and wants to lunge forward a few inches. Additionally, sometimes with jabbing the throttle to accelerate (at low speeds) or get a good downshift, there will be a delay in downshifting/acceleration and or the engine RPMs will hold after I lift off the throttle. When coming to a stop you can feel the truck still slightly accelerating (fighting the braking) instead of coasting, as if the torque converter doesn't want to unlock. Intermittently, I will get a one time clanging slam sound when I start the truck after it sits for as little as 5 minutes. I can have hemi engine tock last for few seconds upon startup or until I finally put it in Drive. The truck will have a noticeable vibration when Eco mode kicks in and the Hemi will sound like a diesel with engine knock heard all around the truck. Quite embarrassing to hear engine knock as you're cruising past people in a $70,000 sticker gas engine truck. And yes, I still get the slamming sensation seemingly coming from the back when posting through a corner or rolling through a yield sign and applying throttle again.

I just stopped bothering to take it into the dealer after visiting three different dealers, at least 8 visits that resulted in everything from reprogramming, FCA engineer's cases, "it's normal operation", or "I feel it but there's nothing we can do about it."

Back when I was a service advisor and service manager, we would simply put a device into the customers vehicle to allow data capturing. But I've been informed that apparently no such device exists to work with me new DT generation of electronics.

I have been dealing with this sense brand new, August 2020 , and in Lemon Law purgatory for almost but a year now. So all of you who are at least getting a transmission, consider yourself lucky.
