I am not sure if this is a big deal or not. This ram is a 19' with 1986 miles. I started it up today after having sat for several hours in about 50 degree weather on the driveway and a small cloud of blue smoke came out of the rear exhaust. I would expect older trucks to do this from time to time as valve seals age. My chevy does this occasionally. Is this something any of y'all would bother taking in to the dealership ? Again, I have only seen it happen once but I wasn't looking for it until now. what do y'all think ? Big deal or not ?

Mine did the same thing yesterday 1200 miles sat a couple hrs and a puff of smoke on start up. I see its a common problem that goes away after break in.

Hi Dredram,
Please send us a private message if this continues to happen. We are happy to have this documented and looked into further.

My 5.7L Jeep Grand Cherokee has always done this since new. It’s up to 119k miles now.

I really hate to dig up a 2 month old thread, but i wanted to tell about my 2016 that had the exact problem. It blue smoked every time i started it after it had been sitting a couple of hours. I first noticed it at 400 miles in my garage. By the time I got Chrysler to look at it, I was at 2000 miles. They pulled the heads and found a bur on a valve stem that had ripped the valve seal. They rebuilt the heads and it never smoked again. (Because of them pulling the heads on my brand new truck is why im here on the 5th gen forum with a new truck. I didnt trust the mechanics ability to make my truck good as new)

This makes sense...valve seals are the most logical place to start if you see blue smoke only on startup, after sitting. I had a Camaro once that exhibited similar behavior (at maybe 80K miles).

Same. Mine's a 2014 with 70k miles, and it's always done this. Not every start, just every once in a while.
