I feel like the part concerns are overblown. Every single vehicle I have ever owned has had an engine that is no longer in production. Yet I have had no issues with long term parts. I understand recent part availability issues are fueling the fire, but I think part concerns are overblown.
I completely agree it's a risk, and damage to it could leave you stranded.
I got this skid plate made for the Ecodisel: Ram 1500 Engine-Transmission Armor Package | Dethloff Mfg
I specifically choose that one because of the way it protects the fuel filter. The piece pictured here sits just...
I let it go till the warning starts. In part because I want to get the old def out of the tank rather than just dilute it with fresh def.
If I have a road trip I always bring an extra box with (there are times in extreme wind I have burn through def as fast as I was burning through diesel it...
I did basically the same thing, but just have the plug hanging loose by the tow hook. It's not able to move too much, just enough to plug an extension cord into. Works great!
I also have experienced this in my 2022. It's luckily not too often, but there are a couple times that the delay made things a little close for comfort.
The split tailgate equipped trucks come with a factory stiffner. I don't know if it would address the stresses you're worried about. I haven't seen any aftermarket stiffners myself.
Active grill covers are not designed to replace an actual cover. I still cover my grill when it's close to 0C or colder.
I also use a fuel additive to be safe.
I don't mess with an oil pan heater. I have heard that unless the heater is built into the pan (as opposed to just pressed to the...
I can confirm this. WK does stick out further and is a better step. After the RRO were installed I realized they didn't stick out enough to act as a step really at all. Though neither is really a good step for my feet. If you want a step get nerf bars IMO
RRO, I never took any photos of the WK sliders on the truck (I don't take that many photos of the truck, haha). But they are in the back yard if you want any photos of specific differences.
I installed both on my truck, and technically have both on hand in case anyone wants any photos. Since it sounds like there is a lot of interest on this thread let me summarize my experience. Granted this is with the ecodiesel, so YMMV with the hemi
WK:
I first ordered the WK set, recognizing...
@WhiskeyRebel3 Have you made your decision? If not I have both sliders currently in my possession, so I can answer any questions and provide my perspective between them. After this weekend I will have had experience fitting both sets of sliders to my truck (hopefully).
@Darksteel165 I would disagree with trying to keep the oil at the top line is the best option. The middle is really as ideal as possible.
Oil levels can go up too, as the oil accepts diesel fuel and soot its volume can go up. If it gets too high it can start to impact the internal of the...
Fuel filter drain is trivial. The biggest pain is the disposal of contaminated diesel. It's not that hard or messy.
Be mindful to make sure the fuel filter is full before starting the truck. I cycle into the run position without starting multiple times to try and help make sure the fuel...
The def tank does not fit a full 8 gal. initial def usage will also be higher on a new truck too. It's hard to say how much you used but I can't imagine you're under 2000miles per gal of def.
Based off what you described a bed shell sounds like the only way.
I would never put a kennel under a tonneau cover. Not enough air flow, in theory you could make some hvac and monitoring setup, but it seems scary to me. I wouldn't want my dog back there knowing how quickly and how hot it can...
Not a must, but I do. A little insurance for the CP4 high pressure fuel pump. Biodiesel actually will give you better lubrication than any additive. But more than B5 and you need to increase your oil change frequency.
My additive also increases cethane which helps for less soot production...
Using biodiesel can notably improve lubrication, likely better than any additive. So far I almost always use B5 to B20. Though I still use an additive to demulsify water and improve cethane.
