There is a guy on YouTube (“1500 Overland”) that has a set up you described. He has the ORP but he had to change out his rear springs to non-ORP after he installed the Fabtech coilovers just to reduce the rake. You can contact him through his YouTube channel.
Agree completely. I have the Flowmaster American Thunder and I can’t stand the sound of my truck when MDS kicks on. Otherwise, love it. I override MDS routinely now.
“2WD-unfortunately and stupidly...
Still trying to figure out a lift kit...ugh“.... Sometimes it’s easier to change trucks than it is to change a truck.
I’ve seen pictures of an install exactly as you describe. The angles looked wrong to me. The 6” kit comes with longer steering knuckles and the Readylift UCA’s were engineered for stock knuckles. I did the BDS 6” and their UCA’s. I’d recommend matching the UCA’s with the kit.
I don’t like the MDS at all. When it kicks in, I feel it in my seat and in the gas pedal. The truck feels like it’s having trouble getting out of its own way. And with my tuned exhaust, it gurgles loudly. I disable it every time I drive.
In most winter conditions, you don’t want to use your lockers. Really only if you are already stuck or trying to avoid being stuck at relatively low speeds. This is especially true in mountain driving with tight turns and off camber surfaces. Lockers will put you in the ditch before you know it.
Understand that dynamic. :) My wife made me get steps so I compromised with power steps (which I’ve grown to like). The back is just a Kuat 4-place hitch mount bike rack folded into the upright position.
Your truck looks awesome. Good choices. IMO, this is the stance that should come from the factory if you order a Rebel or ORP. 1” is not enough when the factory stance has the clearance of a 2wd pickup.
“Worth it” is a personal value judgement. For me, I’ll keep this truck 7-10 years so it is definitely worth this ball joint angle and having a grease zerk.
Haven’t had mine long enough to comment on wear but I’ve done a pretty brutal winter drive in Montana recently and the tires performed really well. Sheet ice up and down 7% grades and no issues.
I’ve only had my truck since mid-summer but I did drive 3.5 hours in a Montana winter storm recently. All conditions... freezing rain, sleet, heavy snow. Some of that was up and down 7% grades on sheet ice. Lots of accidents, slide offs, etc. I kept it in 4 Auto the whole time. All systems...
I don’t disagree with SilverSurfer much on here but in this case he’s just wrong. :) Your truck looks awesome as is. I wouldn’t change a thing. I get it those 35’s look small at certain angles. I have the same issue.
I did the Flowmaster American Thunder cat back which is 3” back to 4” black tips. Sound is awesome. As loud or quiet as I want dependent on throttle pressure.
