Production-Ready 2027 Ram 1500 REV Debuts in Detroit

Ram’s Range-Extended Electric Pickup Quietly Steps Into The Spotlight

The 2026 Detroit Auto Show had no shortage of headlines, but one of the most important trucks on display flew somewhat under the radar. In the Ram display, we got our first real look at the production-ready 2027 Ram 1500 REV, and after seeing it up close, it’s clear this truck represents a major turning point for Ram’s electrified future.

This makes sense, the performance of an EV but with the range and practicality of a gasoline truck. Funning having the 3.6L as the generator, not connected to any driveline.

with ram changing the name so much. people will be confused

Ram CEO Tim Kuniskis confirmed to us that he is using the Ramcharger name for its new full-size SUV that will make its way into the lineup in 2028. Funny thing is, it will have this powertrain as well.

I'm hoping that Ram taking its sweet time to get this EREV truck into dealerships means they will get more of the bugs worked out before the public gets hold of it.
.
If this truck ends up with "do not park inside" warnings and lots of warranty work like the Jeep 4xE and the Pacifica minivan plug-in hybrid have had over the years, it'll turn out to be another EcoDiesel fiasco - a great idea but the poor implementation torpedoed it. Fingers crossed they wring the hell out of it while it's still in Engineering's hands, not in the public's hands.

I agree, it will fit a decent percentage of most owners' use-cases.
.
I do, however HATE that Ram is calling it an "REEV" for "range-extended EV". The acronym everyone else has used for years, EREV (extended-range EV), makes more sense linguistically and it also rolls off the tongue easier.
.
Ram, it's bad enough you switched from Ramcharger to REV, but at least there was a bit of logic to that decision. However, "REEV" is both illogical and downright annoying.

Everything is great in a PowerPoint and marketing release. Let's see what it does out in the wild. They are putting a lot of effort into this release, and while there is no perfect, I hope they get close to a functional truck that will do what customers expect.

Yeah I read somewhere that the 3.6 is pretty much the cheapest motor they make and no mods to mount it in there so it kind of makes sense as a generator. As far as their choice for pure generation and no driveline connection, that is bold. It could be a very interesting vehicle.

I am curious about the off road capabilities as they didn’t mention Rebel specifically in the written article. Is the air suspension going to have an off road raise option? It did mention an off road drive setting and I wonder if that includes the suspension. An electric motor front and rear so it will be technically 4wd but I didn’t see a mention of a locker or lsd. Looking forward to the magazines actually test driving one!!!

I LOVE IT. The ONLY complaint I have with my F-150 Lightning is long range towing. This REV would solve that issue. I want one so bad....

F150 Lightning is also going EREV, the 100% EV has been cancelled.

Interesting to see which one does it better.

If you're on no worse than dirt tracks in the forest, the four-corner air suspension is fine. If you do serious off-roading, i.e. lots of deep ruts, rocks and washboard, you probably should not order Ram's air suspension.
.
It's a great system for towing, and for pavement and relatively decent dirt/gravel tracks, but it does not hold up well on rough roads. A friend of mine had a Rebel with four-corner air and does a lot of four-wheeling in the western deserts and mountains, his air suspension had a lot of failed parts. He traded it in on a RHO, which of course has very capable coil-spring suspension. He would never have Ram's air suspension again as long as he's doing his off-roading.
.
Also, when you lift the body for maximum clearance, the air suspension gets uncomfortably stiff, and worse yet, when you ease over a big rock or into a deep rut, Ram's air suspension at full pressure is very unforgiving - it's hard to control a gentle wheel drop off of a rock or into a rut with Ram's implementation of four-corner air.
