Gas mileage on the 2019 5.7 hemi without etorque

‘19 Laramie Longhorn, 3.21 gears, pulsar tuner running performance w/mds off 275/65R20 nitto’s getting 17.1 average. Mixed city and hwy driving.
Amazing how much the hemi gets better fuel economy with MDS always off and 91 octane fuel. Prior to tune, 16 mpg was best I could get.
135xx miles on truck. Non-etorque.
 
When I used the "non heavy foot" for a 45 mile city-hwy combined drive (about 42 signal lights) I averaged 19.2 MPG. I have had several previous Rams with the 5. 7 and never got more than 11 mpg but more like 8-10 mpg. I am averaging with my normal way I like to drive at about 14 MPG (city and hwy) which is great to me.
 
Why would deactivating MDS improve mileage? It seems to only turn on at cruising speeds, and its sole purpose (as far as I know) is to improve mpg...

I haven't tried 91 octane yet. It's worth a shot.
 
For those of you with 4x4, are you driving it in 4-H or 4-A or in 2WD mode on normal commutes (assuming you're not in snowy conditions)?

You have it right; turning it off wouldn't improve mileage.
 
I usually keep it in 2WD, but my most recent tank has been 4A. Since the mpg is rated lower on the 4x4 model, I am curious which mode of use the ratings were based on. I haven't done enough driving in any mode to collect any reliable data, but it does seem to do at least a little better in 2WD, maybe .5-1mpg better, which makes sense.

I seem to get better mileage on surface roads headed to work (one stretch max speed is 50) vs the interstate at 60.
I usually run 5 over the speed limit.

ECO rarely comes on for me on the Interstate even only doing 60-65.
 
I only use 100% gas in my vehicles--no alcohol or ethanol additives; cost a few cents more per gallon but will get you better mpg; I live in a small town, only about 50,000 population and there are three stations with pure gasoline here; should be available in larger areas also; I think the sign on the pumps states to go online at pure.gas.org to find local stations in your area that have no additives in their gas.
 
I have the rebel trim non etorque and I’m getting high 16s to mid 17 miles per gallon. My first tank was 12.7
Was it like that right off the lot ? Or did you have a period of time where it was awfull mileage?

Non-ethanol gas is a bit more than a 'few' cents around here... to realize a cost benefit you would have to be getting 21mpg per tank of gas, otherwise you are literally burning money.

The .20 cent difference (and 2 mpg increase) between 87 and 91 at COSTCO (TOP TIER gas and cheaper than anything else around) is just barely enough to justify the cost.

100 mile trip at 15mpg using 87 Octane at $2.09 is $13.93
100 mile trip at 17mpg using 91 Octane at $2.29 is $13.47
100 mile trip at 21mpg using Non-Enthanol at $2.84 is $13.52

First tank or two was pretty crappy. The 1800 mile trip towing over 8k May have had something to do with it. I averaged 9.9 from start to finish. It had 740 miles when I started the trip.
 
About half and half city and highway right now, getting between 17-18 mpg. When cruising though I have a light foot and the computer routinely indicates 25ish. Can’t wait to take a road trip and see how many mpgs I can squeeze out.

My old Tacoma was rated for 25 highway and I ended up averaging 28.5 mpg on a 300 mile trip. I think I can get higher than the EPA rating on this truck too.
 
So jealous of you guys. I'm currently at 12.6. Oh well, I didn't buy it for the MPG city driving... this is for the comfort of long haul trips!
 
I went from my 2007 Laramie 5.7 MDS 4x4 with 3.92 gears getting about 14.2 MPG, to my 2019 Limited 4x4 5.7 E-torque with 3.92 gears getting around 16.4 MPG. I am very pleased with the change and also the larger gas tank means a day or two longer between gas fillups.

You guys think the big differentiator is the 3.92 rear end?
I ordered a 3:21 just for that reason. 392 is for towing or the drag strip. 4-6 miles per gallon difference. I am still waiting for my longhorn. 2-3 weeks out is the last I heard yesterday.
 
Did anyone else's mileage get crushed by that cold snap? I barely cracked 14mpg over a full tank, and most of that was highway, running premium.

Now that we're back above 0, my mileage seems to average out to about 13 city/17.5 hwy, which I guess might bump up 15/21 when summer returns. Maybe?
 
I am pleased to say that my Limited with 3.21 gears is getting just under 22 mpg on the freeway and about 15 mpg city. This is much better than the 2014 Longhorn I traded in.

this is close to what I am seeing as well, same setup. Larger tires haven't really changed that for me. But I'm not very far (only 600 miles on the truck so far) into it either.

3200 miles, lifetime 18.41 mpg - hand calculation. Last fill up was from a 348 mile trip, primarily highway (but some local) 21+ mpg. Driving for the most part was within the speed limits of 50 to 65 mph.
