My PPE transmission pan: the good, the bad, and the ugly.

I just did the third drain, so that I could swap out the o-ring on the drain plug. (Drain 1 was the pan swap. Drain 2 was the leaking gasket that I re-used...due to the instructions. Sigh. I used a new o-ring then, a brown viton one. and that leaks.)

Drain resulted in 4 1/2 quarts coming out. (Remember, the PPE pan I have states that it adds one quart to the capacity.) YMMV.

When I removed the drain plug, the viton o-ring was bound up in the threads. I am SURE that it went on smoothly. Shrug.

I've done 3 drain and fills. I have a new pan on (with a second gasket). The drain plug is on its third O-ring: first was PPE's green; second was Viton brown (from PPE) that leaked; third is another Viton brown (from PPE).

I also flushed the brake fluid. Thinking about coolant...

I foresee three brake fluid flushed and four coolant flushes in your future. Just to keep the trend going.

I sent a thread link to PPE's customer service. I never got word back from them. Maybe they read it and are making a change?

Regardless, glad to hear you got what is needed to do a pan swap.

Good news: about 1,400 miles of driving and no leaking or seeping.

Call this one put to bed.

(It's just a bonus I swapped fluid 3 times.)

Just to confirm PPE Does make a pan for New 2020-2024 Dodge Ram eco diesel.???

Checked there website and lists a pan for 2014-2018 Eco diesel???.
Would like to swap out my pan for a PPE replacement.

If you are taking transmission pan, yes, the transmission is the same. Engine oil pan, probably not

Interesting. Their website doesn't mention the pan gasket for either 1 or 2 quart version. Their install pdf says to save the original gasket.

Probably depends on where you order from. Some places may bundle them

Mine was ordered from xtreme diesel and dropped shipped directly from PPE.. no gasket but I already assumed it wasn’t gonna come with one since well inflation and went ahead and had one ordered and sitting here before the pan arrived so I would go ahead and plan on ordering one.

Yep, that all looks right! You have the deep pan, so you (correctly) added the deep-neck filter. (One is included with the pan, btw.) The viton 1" o-rings are the ones that fit the drain port.

You're good to go. Your setup will add ~2 quarts over the stock fill (deep pan). ("normal" PPE pan is already 1 quart bigger than stock ZF pan. Deep PPE is 2 quarts bigger.)

As to o-rings, I ended up using 2 of the viton rings. The original green ring (comes on the drain plug) leaked. I pulled the drain plug prior to install to check for o-ring being there. It was. (I am 99.999% sure I lubed it...but you never know. I checked, since there was no pan gasket, so I didn't know what other shortcuts may have been taken on the pan.) Anyhow, I reinstalled the plug with the green ring, put the new pan on, and had a leak.

I then drained it all out and put on a brown ring. It, too, leaked. When I pulled the plug, the gasket had been threaded into it. That's gotta be on me. No idea how. I've installed thousands of gaskets and never seen anything like what it looked like when I removed the plug. Shrug.

Third plug gasket (the second brown one) worked.

I just purchased the deep pan brushed part # 228053010 for my 2019 Ram 1500 5.7 hemi .. but inside the box it says it fits the 8HP70 Eco Diesel. I pulled up my build sheet and it says my truck has the 8HP75 transmission which appears to be the regular brushed pan part # 228053410 .... When you go to the regular pan it says its for the 8HP70 & 8HP75 ...

Question to the OP, in the instructions it says to retain the stock bolts and flange collars for the install of the new pan. Do the flange collars simply press out of the old pan? I am hopefully installing my PPE pan next weekend

Whats a flange collar? Im assuming maybe a washer… either way you just remove the old bolts and reuse them there’s nothing to press out.

The holes in the PPE pan appear to be huge for the stock bolts, The stock pan looks to have steel inserts in the pan. While reading the directions for the PPE pan it refers a few times to the "stock flange collars" and I was assuming it was those? I could be wrong tho

The stock pan style gasket goes around the bolt holes sealing it once the bolts are tightened. I didn’t use these flange collars. I suppose it wouldn’t hurt and would just take up the difference between the bolt and hole basically just a spacer. You should be able to just knock them out and back in with a light tap from a rubber mallet. Maybe I should have read the instructions or maybe the pan was revised where no longer needed but hey no leaks so far lol.

I bought a new OEM pan gasket and installed that into the pan and thought to myself "damn those holes in the pan look big" lol. Once I get the stock pan off ill see how hard they are to come out, if they fight me Ill do what you did and bolt up and torque it down haha.

I used factory bolts on the PPE pan without those collars and I’ve got zero leaks over 20k miles later
