Choosing Best Tonneau Cover

I de-badged my Peragon cover today. Very quick and simple to do as there were only a couple of really sticky badges and a label. I like the look of no-advertisements and logos on the cover.

I wanted a non-black cover as I put stuff in the bed I'd rather not bake in the Texas heat. I figure white might help with the heat. I went with a color-matched Ivory Tri-coat Peregon cover as it met all my specs:

- solid aluminum and stainless steel hardware
- double dead-bolt
- no canister
- no lost bed space when I need all of it (folded cover removes/re-installs in about 30 seconds and stows in the back seat, bed, garage, etc)
- low-profile, sleek look
- fully opens/closes instantly
- color matched to the truck. Not into the generic black cover.

Nice, I have the white 6.4 bed, here in South Florida.....weather/heat also.... thinking white. Was yours the clamp on version or drilled rails?

Whichever you decide, I would make sure you check out Truck Alterations before you buy. Luke saved me some serious $$$. I paid on Friday and the Ultra Flex cover was at my door on Tuesday afternoon!

Do they also sell the OEM mopar cover?

The reason that I went with the Ultra was because it doesn't contact the truck in the fully open position. I also liked the carpeted underside, but the main reason was not touching the truck. It was super easy to install and comes with an LED light. I had mine on in about 20 minutes.

I bought a Truxedo Pro-X15 cover for my 2019 with a 6'4" bed...….it does NOT fit....too short .....have a choice......massive gap at front or back or smaller gap at both front AND back. Obliviously it does not keep the bed dry. Several weeks of run around from manufacturer wanting me to measure the bed over and over again....finally said the bed "probably "was not a standard measurement bed

I Do not recommend these.....maybe another product from truxedo but not the Pro X15

I also bought the TruXedo Pro X15 a couple of weeks ago for my 2019 Quad Cab 6'4" Box (New Body) and like you it was about 2" or more too short. I was able to return the cover and receive my money back. However, because I had this same type cover on my previous Ram (Classic) and loved the way it looked and fit...I contacted them today and asked if they've made any modifications to their cover to fit the new body. I sent customer service several picures and measurements of my truck box and was contacted by one of their engineers. TruXedo is actively working the fitment problem and the engineer I've been speaking with will contact me with their findings...hopefully they will have one that will fit correctly very soon. In all the tonneau covers I've looked at...I really like their covers the best so I'll hold out buying one until they contact me and have reengineered the cover. I must give TruXedo high praise for their customer service reaching out to their technical staff in the end and are working the fitment issues.

I'm in tonneau cover hell right now. Few options for what I want.

I want something extremely secure that I can easily have crossbars for storage above, allows access to the stake holes and is virtually waterproof. What I would like basically is everything. I want the bed covered, dry and secure, i want storage above it but below the cab height and I want a rack with RTT on top of it all.

If I did not want anything above it, I would do a Diamondback in a heartbeat, but that is out since you cannot open the doors with anything on top and it you use their on-top corssbars, you cannot open the doors with anything on top of them anyway. /rant over...I really wanted that one

So that has me looking at either a Retrax or Roll n' Lock. The Retrax has a model with a t-slide on the rail and it sits right on top on the bed rail, so you could put just about any the bolts will support on top of those without much issue. Problem there is that I have a shortbed and the Retrax eats up 13" of bed space. Plus their more secure aluminum unit appears to have leaking issues.

The roll n' lock looks good but no model with a t-slide rail for other components. If I go with Roll n' Lock, I would want to mount the dual t-slide rail from the Thule TracRac. It sits right on the bed rail and uses the stake holes for mounting. Will be a decent solution. Problem here is that I really dislike two things about the Roll n' Lock. First is the tether you need to pull it closed easily and second is the attachment to the tailgate needed to lock the unit. The electric Roll n' Lock solves a couple issues, but damn they want a lot for that compared to the manual.

Anyway, starting to ramble...like I said...I'm in tonneau cover hell right now.

Right now the way I am leaning is the Manual Roll n' Lock with Thule TracRac rails on side, a VooDoo MAX connected to the outer rail and basic crossbars on the inner rail. When the MAX rack + RTT is not on there, I will have a storage box on the inner crossbars and when it is on top, I'll have a short basket on them for storage above the bed and below the RTT.

I bought the vanish low profile tonneau cover. Fit perfectly 10 min install time and no leaks nice and dry inside. Love the look .

I agree with you....I very much like the pro X15.....they did make an effort to "fix" the engineering problem with me but I ran out of patience as they wanted more and more info and measurements. …….I figure that was THIER job to get it right BEFORE selling it. I have made mine "work" but it s not water tight because of the misfit …...I am only using it until I can get the fiberglass cap I want.....sure hope the cap manufactures make sure that they fit before selling them!!

I had this cover on my previous 2015 GMC. I liked the locking mechanism and the ability to access the front section separately, I miss that functionality often. It was very well made (heavy) and sealed up pretty well, at least as well as any of the covers I have had. I chose to go with an Undercover flex on my Ram because I wanted a lower profile look and FRP panels. Hail is a problem here in North Texas and the aluminum panels on my G4 got beat to hell from a storm in March of 2017. With that being said, it still functioned well even though it looked bad.

I'm looking at an American Roll Cover from Truck Covers USA now. Looks like this one may be a winner. Rollup canister is only 8"x 8", they have better drainage then the other roll-ups, can accommodate t-rails, leave access to the stake holes for a real rack and can open without opening the tail gate.

Checks all the boxes for me.

The cover isn't too hard to remove, there are 2 nuts on each side (1/2 inch I think) to remove and then it lifts off. Its heavy, but not so much that one person cant lift it off.

I agree the thinner flip up covers are not nearly as secure, I went for looks this time over security and function. I may spend more next time and move up to a Retrax or other retracting type cover.

Retrax just came out with their electric retractable for RamBox. I have one on order. Pricey, but I like the idea of press-a-button and you're done. It's available with and without provisions which allow mounting a rack above.

I have the BUG and the Retrax uses the tie down rails as mounting points. You can still use the tie down anchors so that's obviously a plus. Installation looks pretty easy. We'll see.

I had 2 Bakflip covers, both of them the black finish started to wear off after a few years and you could see silver aluminum in the groves instead of black. This time I went with the UnderCover UltraFlex Linex. It's coated with the Premium Linex Coating and is supposed to hold up to all kinds of abuse just like a spray in bedliner.

So far so good, plus the finish looks better than the Bak. The prop rods are nicer and have nice holders when not in use unlike the cheap hooks on the Bak. When in the up position it doesn't lean against the back of your cab and it has straps that are integrated into the top to hold it down when in a partial open position. I highly recommend it over the Bak.

For me, it was down between the Ultra Flex and the Lomax. I went with the Lomax for ease of removal if I need the entire bed. Also got a great deal from Luke at Truck Alterations.
