Hi all,

Newbie Ram owner here. Just bought my first 2023 1500 Bighorn after flipping from another brand. I absolutely love the truck... only problem is... 20 miles into my trip home from the dealer, I started getting a "Service Shifter" message on my dash. I was like huh... thats cool. It's telling me that it's helping my shifting? After a few more miles of it coming on and off I said to myself.. oh.. thats a problem. Finally pulled it into my driveway for the first time ever and noticed a "Park Sense temporarily disabled" message on my dash and then realized my park sense switches would not turn on.

Called the dealer the next morning and they took it in that Friday. Long story short... its been at the dealers service department for going on 4 weeks now.

I keep calling the service department to ask them what's wrong... what they found out... where they are at... I get nothing from them... very tight lipped. They just say there is a STAR case open and they are at the mercy of the Stellanis engineers getting back to them.

So I opened a case with @RamCares to see if they can provide me any information on the STAR case... waiting on feedback from them.

Overall, this has been a terrible experience for someone jumping onto a new brand for the first time. It's very discouraging... and to read all of the other horror stories of Rams sitting in the service department for weeks and months with STAR cases opened and nobody knows what's happening... doesn't help ease my concerns.

I feel like this is going straight to a Lemon Law and I absolutely don't want that to happen because I really just want the truck that I love back and put all this behind me...

I just wonder if there are any success stories out there that can make me feel a little more confident... about someone who actually had their truck successfully repaired after a STAR case was opened when nobody could figure it out?

I dont think I came across any of those stories in any of these forums.

I would say if it started happening in you drive home, I would have turned right back around and returned it and asked for another truck. Not sure if they had another one in the lot that fit what you wanted for features.

Also, the fact that they aren't really giving you any real information would lead me to use a different dealer in the future.

Yes... definitely cutting ties with them once I get my truck back from the service department. Agree 1000% that I need to be using another dealer.

As far as returning the truck goes... tried that after I brought it in to service... I honestly thought it was going to be a quick fix. After 3 or 4 days in the shop I started getting nervous and of course by that time they completely lost interest in me as a buyer. Truck was sold and its my problem now.

Not sure how you can claim the Lemon Law this earlier.

Like HSKR said, I would have turned about and went back to the dealer and said "HELL NO".

Did they even offer a loaner?

Pretty sure Lemon Law in NY is 30 days out of service or 4 failed attempts to fix. I am going on 4 weeks now.

Welcome to the forum . Sorry to hear about your first experience with Ram . It sounds like an electrical problem and that can be anything from a low battery to any connections , it can take awhile . Hopefully they get it sorted out soon as these are really nice trucks .

Thank you. I really do hope they square it away soon. They put me in a Ram loaner... its not the same but it's still nice. I just read about all of the stories on here of months in the shop and then problems after problems... back and forth in the shop. I was hoping to hear from the other camp that had their issue resolved and put it behind them forever.

I dont really see any of those... but then again the ones who complain (me) typically stop posting after there is nothing left to complain about. So just hoping for the best at this point.

It's hard for me to communicate with the service department. The advisor won't even give me a hint of where I stand. He just tells me it's at the mercy of the STAR case. Very tight lipped and it's very frustrating which is why I opened the case with @RamCares so hopefully they are able to facilitate an escalation.... I will bring that up to them though so thank you.

Star agents are not the answer all, they can only make suggestions on what the tech is feeding them. They need to get a tech advisor/field engineer out there to assist if they can't get something figured out in that time frame.

All manufacturers are having problems with electronics these days, not just Ram. My girlfriend is a Ford person, because she gets discounts there. Her current lease is up soon, so she started looking. She decided she didn't like the change to Edges, so she would get an Explorer. She searched until she found one she liked, that was "in transit". She was able to negotiate a purchase, and was told the vehicle should be in this week. They said they would have to perform a recall, befoer they could deliver it, but wanted to do all the paperwork on the deal. They had fill out a credit app. Turns out, Ford was forced to recall for the "blue screen of death", just like Ram. The difference is, Ford doesn't have a clue what is wrong, and has no fix. They can not deliver any new Explorers with 360 cameras indefinitely..

Dealer sat on 6 2022 2500/3500 Ram sold trucks, a few over 100k over a intake heater recall. A $10 part and couldn't sell the truck because there "wasn't" a fix for the 2022 yet the 2023 had the same recall and parts available to fix them. Make it make sense.

Yes from what I understand RamCares are the ones who are able to facilitate getting a field engineer out there. I could be wrong but that's what I am hoping.. and thats what I am pushing them to do. And if there is a better way to get a field engineer out there please let me know! Because my service department aren't doing that.

Someone either the tech, service manager, or even star needs to request help and get it escalated. Sounds like they are currently going in circles with no results.

Sounds like the dealer isn't trying very hard. Like you said, in their view they have your $$$ now it is your problem.

If @RamCares and/or the dealer don't get things moving by, say Thursday next week, if it were me it would be Lemon Law time. I would be calling a couple lawyers on Tues.

That doesn't make sense at all. That sounds like it would have been an emissions recall, and unless it would somehow make them dangerous, (overheating causing a fire or something), there shouldn't be any reason they could not be sold. The camera thing, the government now considers to be a safety item, ( even though we drove cars without cameras for over 100 years), and therefore mandates if a new car has no camera, it can not be sold. It's fine if you took delivery before May 12th, when the recall was announced. Those cars can drive around for 2 years, while they try to find out what causes the problem, then try to come up with a solution, then try to manufacture any necessary parts, then contact owners, and have them try to schedule a repair.:ROFLMAO:

I forget you used to work in a dealership and somehow forgot that the manufacturer supports selling of new cars with open recalls. Imagine selling a new car with a known safety recall.
