We need state laws that every new catalytic converter has a very visible serial number on the bottom and cannot be legally sold or installed if that number is missing or altered. If yours get stolen, you can report the serial number and a cat with that number could not be legally sold or installed. Anyone intentionally selling or installing missing, altered, or stolen serial numbers gets booked. Stolen cat serial numbers could also be checked for during routine state vehicle inspections.

This is not perfect, but it would probably severely disrupt the black market for stolen cats and significantly reduce the huge problem that it is today.
Just make it so that to "recycle" you have to buy a new one.

again though make all the laws you want, the criminals don't care. The real way is follow the money, whoever is buying them and funding the people stealing them are who you need to go after. Go up the chain to who ever is buying or selling the recycled material, the smelters or whoever. Cut them off.

If mine gets cut off I’m replacing it with a pipe.

Anyone deleted theirs and put one of these on the O2? I’ve done this one past trucks with no issues

I tried those spark plugs anti-foulers on my 2005 Magnum. Did not work. Still popped check engine light after a few miles.

This is not an option for everyone. Where I live, state laws require an emissions check with instrumentation during yearly state inspections. If you fail this test or if they see the cat has been removed, you don't pass and you can't legally drive your vehicle until it passes.

Criminals do care, they're risking jail time whenever they steal, if the stolen merchandise can't be moved, then it's not worth it to them. They know what's sellable and what's not and they focus on items that are easy to fence with the least chance of getting caught.

Has anyone talked to any of our resident fabricators about converter shields or plates w/tamper-proof fasteners? Seems like a win-win if they offer something like that.

this company email me that they will have something for the 5th gen rams soon
I did go to their site previously. Their products look good, but they only offered items for a few manufacturers. Glad to see Ram is part of their expansion plan

Makes you wonder how many low life looters are cutting them out of cars in destroyed Florida neighborhoods.

I drop by a muffler shop that I have use in the past, was quoted $450 per, for custom welded shields.
Not sure if I will pull the trigger. My insurance deductible is $500 so it's double that.
positive - peace of mind and not having to deal with the insurance, dealer like a member here did for several weeks
negative - welded so when and if the times come to get it remove I would have to pay again to maybe remove it but definitely reinstall
What do you guys think

imo depends on how much weld is used.
solid weld all around, bad.
weld small in just enough places to hold it and slow down thieves good.

I like the cat shield design whenever it will be released.

I agree with big dodge - depends on where & how the welds are placed.

I still really like the high decibel alarm at the other cat company offers. Plus it will keep rodents away if they play around in that area. 😆

What are they welding the shields to? Is it an individual cage around each converter, or welded to the frame?

unfortunately somebody got injured on the job while I was at the muffler shop, and I had to rush over on my day off so I didn't have time to ask for a lot of details.
From the small conversation it would seem individual cages
I still plan to go back to get more details if nothing else but that won't happen in the next 2 weeks since I will be super busy but in the mean time I wanted to get some opinions
