Slow fuel fill

2019 Ram 1500 Crew Cab 4WD. I have a couple of issues, all surrounding the fuel system.
When at the fuel station, the truck takes fuel extremely slowly, in addition the fuel hose does not auto shut off and constantly overflows.
After when I believe the tank is full, and the fuel gauge shows FULL, I drive as few as 20 miles and the fuel meter on the dash loses approx 1/8 of its volume. Most vehicles will drive some distance before the fuel starts to see a decrease.
I have checked under the truck and there doesn't to be any kinked hoses etc.
Thoughts?

Yes, seems to be a fairly common issue. Not everyone's overflows but slow filling seems very common among most. Should be able to do a search for some of these threads and see if they have a fix. Consensus points to a vent problem for these problems, if it does it regularly dealer should be able to replicate and fix.
As to the fuel gauge I think there is a calibration/interpretation issue, i.e. fuel sending unit or gauge. I started a thread on this as I hadn't seen anyone else mention it (our truck never hits the full mark). After some responses it seems like others have similar issues with it as well, seems like low fuel light comes on early as well. Haven't taken ours in yet so if you take it in and have them check all of that let us know what they do

It's not ubiquitous. I'm at 3800 miles and have had only one pump click off early. Clicked it back to full flow and it filled right up. Every other fill up has been at full flow with no issues.

I have issues at a specific gas station and sometimes I do not. Guess it depends on the flow rate of that specific pump. It is rather annoying when I have to hand fill it.

I've had no filling issues except for a wire-wrapped nozzle that didn't want to release from the capless fill assembly (wires got caught). Careful with those!

I suspect flow rate as well. When looking at the size of the tube leading from filler cap to tank I am surprised it doesn't take longer

Didn't have any issues with slow filling the 1 time I've put gas in it. I did have a problem when I pulled the nozzle out and fuel was going all over the place. I read the manual and it states that you need to leave the filler nozzle in for a bit so that it can drain. Will be taking my time next time.

This new capless design is something new to me.

I always do that. The pump would shut off a lot because I assume it thinks it's getting full when it only has a few gallons in the tank. This is with either the first or second detent selected so I don't have to hold the handle. Unfortunately, there have been times where I would have to hold the handle since it kept shutting off.

I’ve also have filling issues, but with Jeeps in the family (which have the same problem). I’ve found that if you start with the nozzle at about 4 o’clock, start fueling, then put it down to 6 o’clock and pull it out enough so that it still catches and won’t fall out. There seems to no problem with a fast fill.

Old thread I know but today when I got fuel I heard a bunch pouring out and sure enough I looked under the truck and there was fuel all pouring out from on top of the tank. I've had it over flow out of the filler neck but never on top of the tank like that.

This. I’ve had this issue on my Ram, pervious Jeep, and BMW as well. It’s always the pump. It’s particularly bad in CA with these goofy clean air pumps we have.

In fact, just last fill up it was slooooow. Nothing I could do would speed it up. I decided to cancel the transaction half way through the fill up and started a new one. Filled fast with no problem. Definitely something up with the pump.

Pump kept shutting off to the point where I was getting .07Gal in before it would shut off. Tried a second gas station, same thing. Third one resulted in about a half gallon of fuel shooting out of the filler neck and pump onto me, the side of the truck, and the ground.

Dealership said it’s a common issue - I didn’t have any symptoms of pumps shutting off mid fill or anything else.

I have 46 miles left on the tank and no way to fuel the truck up. It’s going to the dealership tomorrow morning.

Manager said it’s a common issue for Jeeps and Dodge Trucks.

IDK what to tell you. That manager is just blowing smoke up your #%$. Could be that your truck somehow has an problem or there is an obstruction somewhere, but as far as I know, it’s not a common issue.

Yeah I can’t imagine it’s a common thing.

Mind ended up being a cracked fuel pump fitting. The dealer ended up replacing the pump, gasket and two fuel lines. No issues since. But the fuel that was coming from my truck wasn't out the filler neck, it was from on top of the tank

Well the diagnosis is in. It needs a new fuel tank, fuel pump, and a few lines.

I don't even want to know what it would cost if I didn't have a warranty - but the Service Tech told me the vent on the top of the gas tank can either break or get clogged, and if that happens its not able to get the fumes from the gas tank out, the computer senses it, and closes the tank to future filling.

All the parts are on order, it'll be fixed by tomorrow at lunch.
