275/60/20 on OE 20's

I know different variations of this question are on here, but I specifically wanna see what 275/60/20's look like on OE wheels, with or without a leveling kit only. I am battling back and forth between putting on 275/60's or 285/60's on my OE Laramie 20's. I like the OE wheels and don't want to buy aftermarket ones. I am also concerned about the difference in the ride going from 4-ply to 10-ply tires. I don't offroad, but will sometimes tow a boat. I just wanna make sure I don't regret going with 285's if the 275's don't look much different than the OE 275/55's. Please post as many pics as possible! Thank you.

Ram's have ran 275/60-20 since '02. They will hardly look any different. i'd go for the 285's if anything. My personal opinion

as for the 10 ply - i feel they are a bit over kill for a 1/2 ton truck

I put 275/60/20 on mine, not on the OEM wheels though. I think they look bigger, the stock tires are tiny small sidewall. The 275/60/20 are 1" taller than the stock tires. The 285 are a half inch taller than the 275/60/20 and .4 wider. When I was shopping tires/wheels, I went with the 275/60 because the difference in price would have been $100 more a tire, I didn't think it was worth it to me. I went with BFG KO2's and they ride nice. softer than stock I think because of the taller sidewall. They are also a thicker ply D rated. I know you don't want an off road tire though. I think the 275/60/20 will be a good choice along with being a economical one as well. The speedo will be off up to 4 mph at 70 on up so keep that in mind. I bought a speedometer flash tool because I didn't like it being off. It was $170. The dealer doesn't seem to be able to calibrate the speedo with the factory scan interface. He also said on the Jeeps you needed to buy a code to be flashed from FCA for 150 and that would probably be the same for Ram when it is available. so I just bought the programmer.

It really depends on what tire you plan on running. A 275 from brand X will look different than brand Y once mounted up. i saw a ram yesterday bone stock with 275 60 20 nitto ridge grapplers and you'd swear the tire was at least a 285 or 295. BFG KO2's are notorious for running narrow so a 285 in a BFG would look narrower than the 275 Nitto. I'd pick a tire, then pick a size. Load E tires will definitely affect the ride quality.

Yeah, that's why I'm trying to decide if a 275 is enough, even in a tire such as the ridge grappler. I don't want to regret ride quality for size, but don't like the little 275/55's on it now.

I'm putting a 2 inch level on soon and going with 305 55 20 on the factory wheels, Just deciding between the Terra G2 in 4 ply or the ridge grappler in 4 ply. Considered the 4 ply 275 60 20 ridge grappler but afraid it'll still look too narrow. I've ran both the G2 and the ridge grappler before, not sure if I want the additional noise from the ridge grappler they're not bad but louder than the g2's for sure.

Here's a 275/60R20 tire
Only a inch taller, but to me, looks much better. And no more OWL. Thought about going wider, but didn't see it as worth it to spend $300+ more for another 20mm. And i n the 285/295 sizes there are a lot of 60+ LB E rated tires.

Great info, Billet. I thought about the 305's but another member here had conflicting thoughts on them because of the width and ride.

It's not so much the width that affects the ride as much as the load rating which contributes to sidewall stiffness and tire weight, inevitably as a tire gets wider it gets heavier and the suspension has to deal with more unsprung weight. Nitto is the only one that offers the 305 55 20 in what they call an XL versus load range E. Makes the tires about 50 lbs a piece versus 62-65 lbs each. I've ran the 305 50 20 XL same height at the 275 55 20 just 1.25" wider in a G2 and the increase in road noise is very minimal and the ride was pretty much unchanged. The ridge grapplers I have only run in a 33x12.50 load range F noticeably stiffer and the tire noise is noticeable but disappears with a little volume on the radio. I ran the Toyo AT 2 in a 285 65 18 load E and I wouldn't consider buying them again for numerous reasons. The KO2s are nice but narrow and they tend to be heavy they are reasonably quite and ride and track quite well.

Another member on here is running the 305 55 20 4 ply Ridge grapplers on his limited and noted that the ride wasn't very good but he also installed leveling links for the air suspension to raise the front end which makes the air spring really stiff and progressive so I'm not sure how much of his issue is tire and how much is the air ride.

Did you end up changing your spare as well to keep them the same effective size? I wasn’t even sure if a 1 inch larger tire would fit in the spare location.

No, I didn't. The spare is an 18" full size and would do in a pinch if needed. Additionally, I dont think it would fit unless I was willing to remove the shield (easy), which I do not want to remove permanently. BTW, they ride very smoothly, happy with the ride and aggressive look

are these the XL rated and not "E" rated? I see on Nitto site, they have 275/60r20 in both. Also what is the rim width and offset? TIA

These are XL rated on 20x9 rims with an offset of 20 to be close to stock offset.

I just put on E rated ko2s in a 285/60/20 and I can tell you that they definitely affect ride quality but also help with stability feel. They are about 15 lbs heavier per corner and you will notice it. Imo it's worth it to have a bulletproof, winter rated tire that will tow better than a P rated tire.

im running Goodyear Wrangler Ultraterrain 275 60 20s...love how they look..aggressive...and fill the wheel well up more.
Im running stock OE suspension fyi.

Nice!! Love the larger size, it’s only an inch but it makes such a difference.
