What engine oil are you using?

Hiya everyone. I believe this is the right thread... but I have the 2019 Ram 1500 (5th gen, non-etorque) and my free oil changes are finally up. My next oil change is coming soon and I usually change every 8,000km.

What oil do you put in your engine? I've been getting synthetic oil from the dealer (or at least that's what the paper says). I considered continuing my service at the dealership but they frankly suck at service. I've never really had good service at an FCA dealership and almost considered servicing it at my old Toyota dealership. They actually were cheaper to do the oil with, topped off washer fluid, and washed it if asked.

Option A- What ever meets or exceeds the manufacture specs listed in your owners manual.

Option B- Or what ever random liquid some one on a forum tells you to use.

I’ll let you decide which source you feel will be more credible

Here we go again, another "oil" thread. :p 🍿🍿🍿

Same as grimreefer, PUP 5w 20
30 pages...
FWIW I use Omni Synthetic 5W20 (O'Relli's private labeled) and yes, it exceeds MS6395 spec. Wix 57060XP is my filter choice.

I do my own oil changes and didn't keep receipts, largely because some of the oil was purchased a while ago. But I have photos of each change complete with 10sec videos of the oil coming up to pressure on the start up. Hope that'll suffice if I get in a pinch. Knowing my luck, it won't...

Get the My Ram app, you can see all maintenance the dealer enters for your VIN and submit records yourself as well. A good way to keep a log on maintenance, plus other things like recalls, coupons, schedule service, etc...Pretty decent app.

I see some 5w20 and others 5w30. I haven't done my first oil change yet and wanted to use the same as my daughters new Cherokee V-6 so I can do both with same oil and just buy 5 quart containers and no 1 quart ones. Not sure what her oil is---Anyone have a newer Cherokee as well? I assume both Ram and Cherokee come with conventional oil in them, Is that correct? Thanks

I run the Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 5w20. I purchase a couple of jugs when it goes on sale at Canadian Tire. I typically buy the stock filter from the RAM dealership before I do the oil change. I also keep the receipts for the oil/filter in a folder at home for warranty purposes.

I have purchased the Fumoto oil drain valve which is quite awesome. The only issue is the location of the oil filter. I much prefer the location of the cartridge oil filter on my wife Kia Sorento. Access it from the top.
