I've had it for almost 3-years now. I think it's beneficial if you primarily drive city streets like I do for the stop-start function. Otherwise, I've seen no performance benefits nor notable fuel savings.

Anyone know if the engine idle hours are still counted with the e tq activated? If the motor not running I feel it should stop.

Like my above comment I noticed even though the motor not running it was adjusting my mpg.

I have it, but would rather have the standard 5.7 hemi. Most of the dealer stock in the area came with the e-torque, so I settled for it. I'll live with it until something else catches my eye.

The battery is behind the rear seat, and it looks easily accessible. So I think it’d be easy, but not cheap, to replace.

Correct, the parts alone aren’t cheap. Both the 48V battery and generator will cost $$ outside of warranty

If the eTorque took a dump outside of the warranty period, I wonder if it would be cheaper/possible to remove the generator and battery pack and just install a standard alternator?

if anyone ever gets a wiring diagram to see if an alternator can be wired in.

does it still have a regular battery?

Etorque trucks have a 48 volt electrical system, an alternator couldn't be used to replace the generator, then there's all the PCM and BCM programming for etorque that would still be there

No different that any other out of warranty repair, budget/save for repairs and move on.
If you have a trans or engine failure out of warranty, you'd be in the same boat

Warranty for etorque is 8 years. It's not part of bumper to bumper but rather part of emissions equipment warranty. Having said that, I wish I got mine without etorque. The uneven braking when regenerating electricity and turning engine off while AC is struggling to cool off the truck in the summer are annoying.
I don’t think the e torque has anything to do with the crappy a/c system in these trucks. I had cars in the early 90’s, old cars that blew much Colder air then these new rams. I had a pos 19 ram and now a 21 the a/c sucked in both!

I had a 19 with it and now a 21! Once you get used to it, I like it! The breaking is different yes. I like the extra boost from the 48 volt motor when I let off the break, I really like it when I’m pulling and stopping a lot. Also if driving a lot in town this will save 2-3 mpg I’d guess. As long as I don’t have ac on or heat I can get 19mpg in town, that’s not stomping on the gas at every light, although it’s fun with the hemi! I don’t think the etorque does anything for you on the highway? Another thing to go wrong, for sure, but it has a 8 year /80,000 mile warranty!!! I would not pay the extra 1000 for it like I did in 19. I think it’s only 200 more now, idk! I special ordered my 21 factory replacement with the etorque! Good luck and enjoy whatever you decide! Go drive both and see the difference!

I think it may help when using cruise control on the highway when you need that extra little bit to maintain speed over a slight hill without downshifting. There's an FCA video that says it is at work on the highway

Braking. Sorry, I couldn't resist. Unless you were talking about the eTorque system breaking down, then nevermind. 🤣

I like it when it acts like an engine brake when slowing down, and it seems to pick up in the lower rpm’s a bit quicker than the normal ones.
I REALLY don't like the engine braking feel. To the point I ordered a Limited without eT but the dealer played games on price at delivery. I actually don't mind this implementation of start/stop.

For now I am going to live with it for at least another year.

Too early to say. I got the etorque because it's all that was available and i needed a truck. I didn't want it, I hated the very idea of it, but it's all that was out there thanks to the current COVID regulation driven supply-chain issues.

I've grown to accept it. It's almost seemless in the way it operates. It surely saves gas because I sit at stop lights without that 5.7 liter engine burning gas. The big question that looms over the whole thing is whether it'll actually save any money in the long run. The etorque system will eventually break, and when it does I expect that the repair bill will demolish any savings it provided on fuel consumption along the way.

In a normal market I wouldn't have purchased it.

Dealers have no choice for their trucks ordered for inventory---must be eTorque engines only.
