Hello everyone, I just came back from the dealer here in Ontario Canada for a
Standard oil change and a feature that stopped working that warns me if my tailgate is open. This would pop up on my centre cluster - a picture of the truck with the tailgate open and a warning. I want to be clear that when I bought the truck new 2019 model year Laramie with Level 2 equipment feature. Clearly stated on the build sheet as an option. After discussions with FCA tech group, they stated the truck should not have had this feature without other features such as adaptive cruise control ( which I don’t have ). The tailgate ajar feature worked flawlessly until this past summer over the air update disabled it. My question is, I bought this truck in good faith with the features listed on the sticker and now FCA is saying they made a mistake by offering this. I say this is a breach of contract. Does anyone else feel this is a cop out and what other features will they no longer support ?

Frustrated here in Ontario.

is the feature you're talking about a tailgate ajar warning? Are you sure the tailgate sensor is working?

Either they're lying to you or they're trying to get rid of you. It's on your build sheet so your truck was supposed to come with it. Not to mention the fact that you had it for 3 years. Maybe try another dealership if you can't get satisfaction with this one. @RamCares

I have a Big Horn level 2 and have this icon on the dash. I don't have adaptive cruise either.

Thanks for the replies folks. The feature is the tailgate ajar warning that comes up in the Center cluster. I had the truck in for this issue on the last service and they claimed they fixed but when I got home and tried it, still not working.
I’ll take the advise and try another shop and ensure they check if the sensor is functioning.
will keep you posted.

I didn't even know this was a thing until this thread. It shows as standard equipment on my build sheet. I would have come in handy a couple weeks ago when I almost lost an axe out the back.

I guess I'll go hunting around in that godawful windows version of alphaOBD this week.

My 19 ram had the tailgate ajar warning.

I thought it was on my build sheet for my 21 as well but Dealer is saying LAN build code doesn't have a tailgate ajar warning.

Also had my gate open while towing my RV and neither faired out well.

Tailgate has opened now 3 times while driving and still fighting w FCA to resolve this.

My 2019 BH level 2 had it and so does my 21 Laramie Level 1 - dash icon and if moving an audible chime.

I think all vehicles are equipped with it. It is just a matter of it is enabled in the BCM.

I noticed my 2020 didn’t have the warning and I went back and forth with the dealer for quite some time. There have been a few threads on, all with angry people who don’t have a tailgate ajar warning. As mentioned above you can add this back with Software if you don’t care about your warranty. I’ll be doing it the day I cross my mileage (probably along with a super charger haha)

Using alfaodb to modify your truck settings can get your warranty voided if caught

Everyone who "gets caught" does something stupid like leaving their Tazer or bypass cable plugged in. Or admitting they did it. Just don't be stupid and you will be fine.

I’ve seen the very long threads on that topic and I’m not looking to debate. Just letting people know they can add it back if they want but at their own risk.
