Yep, Vroom has awful reviews. Even TFL Trucks/Cars wasn't immune to Vroom's shenanigan's. They did a couple of videos on their personal experience and it was eye opening.
We will see. When and if I get the check I'll post up. It's gotta' work at least some of the time!

Ha! This is why I’ll sacrifice the crazy money they are offering because I need to be face to face with someone when they already have my vehicle and I don’t even know who where or what I’d be able to do about it

Anyone sell to AutoNation? They just offered me $39,500 for my 2017 and I'm definitely making the 3 hour trip to them this week to see if they are legit. For the record here is my 2017s value breakdown over the last few months:

3/6 trade in value $30,000
4/10 Carvana $32,965
4/12 AutoNation $34,500
5/6 Vroom $37,470
5/8 AutoNation $39,500

I like the fact that if this is legit, I can leave with a check in hand. Just haven't heard much about them yet.

Hmm, guess I will have to check them out as well. No Vroom contract yet so I'm free to do it.
I entered my truck data and we will see. I'll post the offer.
So far its: Vroom $54,580, then Carvana at $46,000. Carmax wouldn't give an offer online/email, said they had to see it first. And I just sent my original dealer the info for his "instant buying quote" through KBB...

Good luck pal. I hope it does work out for you. I personally can’t take the chance
I understood, it's a risk for sure.

"Oh, now that we see your truck we noticed this sand pit on the front bumper, that's a $5K deduction.
Don't like it? We will ship the truck back by turtle express in a month or so..."

Definitely is worth checking, let us know what they offer you!

The quest continues. Following the fine tradition of playing off one dealer against another, I got the AutoNation quote of $55,035.

I then called my selling dealer who uses the KBB system. That returned a quote of $52,100.

So Autonation is $55,035
Vroom is $54.580
KBB is $52,100
Carvana is in last place at a laughble $46,000

I called the dealer back and said that he (KBB) was about $2400-2900 short. He said that the sales tax on a $43K truck would be $1300 if I bought cash and he thought he could make up the rest on the in-person appraisal.

I'm headed out Monday or Tuesday morning, title in hand to see if his 2021 Laramie hemi QC 4x2 is worth the $42K or if I can trade for less.

Will keep you posted. I'm leaning towards "a bird in the hand is worth 2 in the bush" as far as having the check in hand and no waiting or chain-pulling over email/phone on the truck's condition... (as has been suggested by JoeCo and Sal731.)

Awesome! Hope it works out well for you! The only thing I would recommend is to run your own numbers (regarding what the dealer told you about the sales tax figure). I just never trust them when playing with numbers, best to verify for yourself.

Will look forward to hearing how it works out for you.

Sold my Jeep to them in March, easiest thing ever, in and out in about an hour, gave me what they quoted over the phone.

Thanks for replying, that's great to hear. I'll be very happy to sell if they give me what they offered.

Vroom is a horribly run "company." I tried offloading a Mercedes lease in December/January and they kept stringing me along and then they'd close the offer with no explanations. Happened 4 times and every time I called someone swore they would fix it and never did. They also don't seem to have any management. They won't last long.

So for those wondering, this was my second transaction with VROOM. First was my wife's leased Accord that was about 5 months shy of maturing, and the second was my RAM.

The newer trucks will take a few days to get an offer sometimes, but Im assuming its because they are newer and there's not much info on the current model year. Mine was a '21. Once you accept their offer, you will be prompted to enter all you contact information, loan information, payoff, etc, etc. For both of mine, I was not upside down, so this is my experience. Once you submit all the online info, you'll receive an email with some documents to sign, like POA to transfer the title. They will then FEDEX you some more documents and send a prepaid FEDEX envelope to return the Title to them. This was the only uncomfortable part. Once they receive the title, you'll get another email stating they have assigned a pick up carrier. They will contact you in 1-3 days. They will come and pick up the vehicle and provide you with a copy of their bill of lading that you will send to VROOM via email. Once they get that proof, they process your payment. In my case, the payoff check was sent to Navy Federal, and my check to me, both with FEDEX tracking numbers provided by VROOM. Both of my sales went very smoothly.

EDIT: I will add this. With my wife's ACCORD, the state of Oklahoma maintains the title on leased vehicles. So I had to go through some hoops to tell them it was a lease and I didn't have the actual title. I would then get an email saying they still need to title to process. I would call, get a rep, tell the whole story, they would say ok, and the whole process started over. Finally one day I just started the convo with "I need to speak to a supervisor". I got a very nice lady who finally helped me out and gave me her personal extension if there were any issues. After I finally got her, the process went smooth. Their offer was a great one, so I stuck with it. The RAM transaction when without hiccups since I had the title.

Its good you added your info as I have pretty much backed off using Vroom due to all the delays and “losing” the truck for 10-12 or more days before we get the funds. I’m also not too keen on having some twit nitpick every little bug splat off the valuation.

I have the autonation $ number (which is $500+ above Vroom) all it takes for me is 2 vehicles going together out 4 hrs then driving back with either both vehicles or 1 and a fat check. Worth the risk.

My wife is starting to back off the Laramie deal since she likes her Tri-tone Ivory Limited with its cream interior as opposed to black or Delmonico red paint with a black interior. So we will see.
(I’m sure that at least one of you, “IvoryHemi”, will understand.):LOL:

Yeah, so they picked up my truck around 6pm on a Tuesday. I sent the picture of the bill of lading that night. Got an email Thursday morning that payment had been sent to both my bank and myself.

Hmm. Wonder why they got bad reviews. I called Give Me the VIN and they topped the trade in offer by a grand. I waited 2 weeks playing phone tag and called Vroom. They added another 2500 on that and had my jeep picked up in 3 days. FedEx a payoff to the lender and balance to me. Easy as could be.

Kind of funny to read the paranoid fantasies people have in this thread.

Pretty much how I am thinking of it too. About 3 hours for us bringing both cars, best case I come back also with a nice fat check to deposit, worst case we come back with both cars and I list my truck privately or explore vroom a little more.

And if AutoNation finds a few things they don't like on my truck, I have a little wiggle room there too in terms of what I'll take. Happy with vrooms offer which is $2,000 lower than AutoNation, so anywhere in that ballpark and I am happy and coming home with a check.

Two winters and nearly 17,000 miles ago, my truck was marked down to $39,900. Vroom has offered me $43,850 for it this week, one local dealer has offered $43,000 and a second local dealer offered $44,000.

I've been actually missing my Jeep Gladiator quite a bit, and I found a dealer near Nashville that sells to forum members for 6% below invoice no questions asked (8% if you have a Tread Lightly membership). So I took this insane used truck trade-in value, took the 6% off invoice price on a new Jeep, and ordered exactly what I wanted (Overland, EcoDiesel, several bells and whistles). The Gladiator trucks are leasing at well over 70% residual which is just nuts. You're talking dirt cheap payments on a nearly $60k truck. By the time my new lease is up, things will have settled down and the mid-cycle refresh trucks will be out. Maybe even electric.

Right now is an insane time in the car world. If there's something else you've been wanting to drive, do it now!

Carvana appears to bring the check when they pickup your vehicle. why the waiting process with Vroom?
(assuming there is no lien/payoff)

My guess is because Carvana itself is picking up the vehicle instead of a third party like Vroom? Vroom will do a direct deposit as well but I believe there was an additional fee.
