Agreed. More prone to issues than the 8.4", based solely on this forum? Maybe. I still love mine.

Three times now, the 12" screen has goofed on me. Once, it kinda froze; the steering wheel buttons and physical buttons worked, screen would display what I was doing, but touch screen itself would not recognize touches. A key cycle (completely off, wait for screen to go black, and then on again) fixed that.

Twice at different times, after starting the truck again shortly after it had been turned off (while the screen was in the process of going black/shutting down), the screen stayed black and would not come on. Again, a key cycle fixed them as well.

If a simple restart/reboot (key cycle) fixes it, I'm not going to complain much. Probably means a software update could fix it from happening again, later down the road.

I agree, this forum will lead you to believe that the Ram is a PoS if you allow it. My 12" screen has acted up a few times but thats it.

Ford forums will make you think Fords suck, GM forums will make you think that GMs are junk, and Ram forums make you think that Rams stink.

Only the GM forums are right. ;)

Ha. I read many if the other auto forums and every one is full of complaints.

I suppose enthusiasts can’t ever feel like their vehicle is “good enough”. That’s one of the 1st world issues we have, seem to be never satisfied.

The only thing wrong with my truck is it needs another 100 HP and another 100 tq both on the current power curve

Both trucks are nice trucks, I chose a 2021 Ram limited after trading in my 2019 Ram limited due to what you get for the money like the mft, ram box and love the heads up display. I feel Ford didn't do enough for me to buy the 2021 for the money. I have a 2008 f150 and a 2008 Toyota Tundra and love both of those when it comes to getting the driving a real truck feeling and not a luxury car feeling of the new Rams but when I want to feel luxury I drive my Ram. The scary thing about the new F150 is the reports of rust already on them and the 2020 5.0 engines had oil consumption issues. All manufacturers have their issues, even the most reliable Toyotas. I always tell people to pick the one you like to drive the best and hope for the best. All truck lives matter.... lol
Agree, rust on the 2021 Ford F-150 is a problem but I have the same thing on my 2020 Ram 1500. The rear axle was a mess until I hit it with Rust Reformer and high temp flat black paint to try to protect it a little more over time.

As for the 2021 Ford 5.0, it now has a Kevlar belt that runs the oil pump...

Drove both but ended up going with the ram. The platinum f150 rode like crap, wasn’t as comfortable inside, less leg room in the back seat, and I didn’t like the turbo lag. Otherwise wasn’t a bad truck.

I joined this forum today because I'm starting to do my research in preparation for getting a new truck around this time next year.
I currently have a 2016 F150 XLT Supercrew FX4. I have the 2.7L Ecoboost. I've got 107K miles on it and haven't had a single mechanical problem with it. The only problem that I've had with this truck is the frozen door lock problem that someone else mentioned. I had it back to the dealer several times for that problem, and it kept coming back. I ended up fixing it myself and haven't had the problem for the past 2 winters.
Going forward...
As luck would have it, I came across this thread because I'm also comparing the F150 to the RAM. So there is a lot of good info in the thread for me too.
Ford recently announced the F150 Tremor that should be available this summer. The reason I'm on this forum is because I intend to compare the F150 Tremor to the RAM Rebel when the time comes. The Rebel is a nice looking truck, there are many things that I like about it. Ford hasn't announced the official pricing for the Tremor, but my best guess is that it will be about $2-$3K more than an equally equipped Rebel.
So that's my background...
After reading through this thread, I'd like to add a couple of things for the original starter of this thread to consider:
With the price of gas going up like a rocket over the past few months, I recommend you take a good look at the 3.5L Ecoboost. The F150 5.0L is a good good engine but the 3.5L Ecoboost is Ford's flagship. DON'T rule it out. Drive it. The low end torque is unbelievable.
I can't speak for the 3.5 L but over the last 107K miles I have averaged 21 mpg (real MPG tracked and calculated) with my 2.7 L ecoboost. Judging by the EPA ratings, the 3.5 Ecoboost should be close to that.
Good Luck.

The ram definitely drives better. The Ford is OK, but it feels like a truck. Especially in the backseat.

Well, I ended up with a 21 Ram Bighorn. Level 2 pkg, night package, leds, hemi 4x4. Big upgrade over my 2010 BH. I like it a lot. Also saved like 20% so that sure helped over the Ford. Helped buy a bigger extended bumper to bumper warranty at least.

Thanks for all the help and words of wisdom guys!

drove an f150 platinum eco boost loaner while my truck was in the shop. It had good power, but I felt the hemi was more responsive. No turbo lag! The f150 also rode like a dump truck. So glad I got the ram. I would think the mpg city would be better than the hemi. The highway mpg was pretty similar

I can't speak for the 3.5, but the hemi was definitely more powerful than the 5.0. I was very unimpressed in the 5.0 since it's so amazing in my mustang.

I came from an 18 F150. I really did enjoy that truck. Ran premium in the 3.5 eco all day everyday with a smile on my face. That was definitely the highlight. Pulled very well but it ran close to power down mode towing my travel trailer up the mountains in Arizona heat. Trans would get to the top too. Had plenty more power on tap but you couldn’t use it in these situations. Handled the 30ft trailer well besides that. Wonder if they addressed this in the new truck because the current cooling system couldn’t keep up.
Ford doesn’t like to warranty items. One item my dealer even ended up covering on their own after it was declined by Ford. Our 15 Jeep was far easier to get warranty work done on. Heck they even replaced items after an accident just for safe measure and gave it a once over for us. The F150 Was in and out of dealer more than previous vehicles we’ve had. Big one being the infamous cam phasers at 22k. First vehicle for me to have the engine opened up.
I’m definitely not missing the f150 now. My current Ram is a big upgrade for not much more money. Rams value is just hard to beat. Ford dealers act overly proud and that won’t bring you value. Only value to them. If you’re in the market I’d test drive both and see what it comes down to. One may excite you more and you’ll be happy which ever one that is.

My company truck is a 2013 F150 with the 5.0. My hemi is way more powerful, no contest.

Former loyal Ford owner here. I have had F150's and F250's mustang, fusions, Edge, Contour SVT and more. But Ram won me over with value for what you get and I have had no issues with my 2019 Bighorn and Just ordered a 2021 Bighorn. Ford is just not IMO comparable when you compare equal trims, they are asking too much for what you get. I saw stick with Ram
This. I was a Ford loyalist. Still have a mustang. What you get for the f150 just isn't worth that much more than the RAM. The f150 also has had an increase in issues the past few years. Major things like engine and transmission. The hemi is pretty solid and so is the 8sp. That sold me. Sure, you'll get some random **** happening but it's on par with every major brand.

Was in for service for a minor interior rattle, and talked with the tech. He said their (the dealership's) transmission guy hasn't worked on one of the 8 speeds in two years. In general he said the current FCA transmissions are great and very rarely do they see them needing repair.

Forgive my ignorance, but what is the FCA?
