I tried this as well but the paint was no match for the heat. I even wet sanded and used high temp engine primer and paint but it eventually started flaking off. Ended up just purchasing black tips on eBay. Hopefully you will have better luck.

I added a Westin Bull bar and 20" inch LED light bar. View attachment 83587
Just be careful putting these items on vehicles that have airbags. They look great, but can have a HUGE negative impact should you get into an accident. Based on how the truck is designed to react in a front collision, airbags may not deploy as they should. Me, for one, am not willing to take that chance. Just info for others considering these types of modifications to the front of their trucks.

Mine has held up well, so far. I wouldn’t think it would be the heat, as the tips really don’t get super hot. High temp paint is really not even needed although is what I used. It wasn’t the extreme temp paint. There’s even tons of documented cases where people have even successfully painted with plasti-dip. I believe it probably had to do with prep and paint.

I am by far not a professional painter so could have been my prep lol. Many variables also, I live in the salt belt which prob didnt help. I can promise you when towing some weight (5000 lb boat) up and down mountains those tips get pretty darn hot but cruising around town prob not.

I've had tips get so hot that you couldn't touch them.

Just finished doing a full paint correction. When I took delivery of the truck a couple months back, I clayed the entire truck. The roof and hood sounded like sandpaper with the clay and it left minor swirls. I've been wanting to do this and I finally completed it. I wish I had some ceramic coating for it today, but that will have to be another day.
I just finished mine this weekend, I had started on it a few months back and I was not happy with the paint condition. So this weekend I clayed and did a cut/polish and I am thrilled with how good it looks. I then used the Hrydro Slick Ceramic on it and it looks soo good. 😍

Had the dealer put the correct badging on my night edition ( my build came with all black emblems except for the 1500 on hood) must have been a mistake at the factory
