I'm almost to 10K miles and it has never improved.
Dang that’s a bummer for sure :/ both vehicles I’ve had with the 5.7 hemi took about 7500-10k miles to fully break in and get the best mileage

I do not doubt you at all. I was not presuming to tell him it'd be more cost effective, as gas vs ethanol-gas prices are different across the country. I was simply offering a possible explanation for the MPG difference.
No issue, thank you for your post.

I never saw a change in mileage and we have 12.5K on ours. But then I’m not complaining about the highway mpg’s with the 3.21’s and easy driving.

these people dont understand that these best mpg numbers were with striped down bare option trucks 2wd 3.21 gears & 18" light weight tires also to get the hiway mpg they drive 55mph.the factory does NOT adjust the mpg rating on the window sticker for your every option no one does all this in the real world so no you wont get those numbers with a 4x4 & 3.92 gears. on a side note fuel quality does make a difference. here in sw florida we dont have winter blend but i was always getting my gas from walmart or shell with ok results we just got a wawa & i have much better luck with their gas no pining or knocking & 1 mpg better so try some different stations & yes non eth. gas will get you about 5% better mpg

X2, part of the problem is what you said that RAM doesnt epa fuel mileage test more than one (or at most two) trim levels of 1500’s while other makers offer a wider range.

Agree that my 4x heavier weight Ltd will not see what a 4x2 Tradesman gets for mpg’s for sure. Maybe there needs to be a big asterisk on the Monroney window stickers advising which model was tested and that your truck “may vary”...

Your 2nd point on fuel quality is right on. If I fill at a non-tier 1 type corner station I often see a 2-3 mpg drop and get more pinging. Thats the non-branded stores.
Some may say that it “all comes out if the same refinery” but too many times I’ve gotten lesser results from those stations no matter what octane is used.

Guess if I see a water hose stretched out near the underground gas tank fill cover I should maybe avoid that place...😬🤔

Had to edit my post, for years I’ve called it the “Mulroney sticker” having enough wax in my ears to have not heard the term correctly. It is “Monroney”, to wit:
(Begin copied wiki posting)
The Monroney sticker or window sticker is a label required in the United States to be displayed in all new automobiles and includes the listing of certain official information about the car. The window sticker was named after Almer Stillwell "Mike" Monroney, United States Senator from Oklahoma. Monroney sponsored the Automobile Information Disclosure Act of 1958, which mandated the disclosure of equipment and pricing information on new automobiles.”

Wow that’s amazing! With 3.92s and 35s I got 16.5 hwy driving like a grandma lol

^^^ exactly you can pass cops at 85 mph here & they dont even look at you but we will get the snow birds that must drive in the fast lane 5 mph under the speed limit *%#$

Just adding a little more data to this pool:
I have all the heavy/fuel sucking options and I live in a very, very hilly area. I drive very averagely, not fast, not slow. Highway cruises are at 69-72mph.
Right now with winter gas and sub freezing temps I'm getting 16.5-17.8mph hand calced. All highway cruising yields right around 17.5-18mpg. Backroads I can do better due to lower speeds, just under 20mpg; and in town I coast to stoplights and don't accelerate hard pretty much ever.

I'm not wowed by the mpg but I'm not impressed either. That said, it's nearly the same mpg as my Nissan Frontier gets and that's over 1000# lighter and pushing way, way less air. Also not nearly as lux.

It would be nice to have 3 lanes and the slower traffic kept to the right and people in the left move out of the way for those that choose a higher speed. That seemed to be the way it used to be. Of course there were a lot less people on the road.
Here FYI is a calculator for stopping distance with adjustments for reaction time also. Something I try to keep in mind after being exposed to the exponential result of stopping as speed increases, 2X the speed and 4 times the stopping, 3X speed and 9 times stopping (info from FDNY Safety Bulletins). That is an inexact over simplification but none the less something to consider as reaction time slows with age. The formula does not have adjustments for weight of the vehicle.

Every party needs a party pooper.

And they knew proper lane discipline, I totally agree.

Now where to draw the line - 0 mph - 0 stopping distance. Let's just park our vehicles and there will be no accidents.

Nice, I would be very happy to see those kinds of numbers.
Yeah, to get those numbers I tie a rope to a semi and draft him...

"Now where to draw the line" - That's your decision.

I'd say it's most likely the weight and the gear ratio you have, though I'm not ruling out a mechanical/software issue contributing to it. The DT is a porker, especially when you kit it out with all the bells and whistles. Your DS was most likely substantially lighter, as was the DT loaner. Don't underestimate the weight difference between a lightly kitted DT and a fully equipped DT, it's easily a 500+ lb difference.

I've got a fully loaded V6 and have been disappointed by its mpg, too, but I'm cognizant that I'm driving a quite heavy truck.
I have a 2021 rebel with pretty much everything and the V6 hybrid. I’m at about 1200 miles and I’m getting about 13.5 miles to the gallon. I can’t imagine adding two large guys (500 lbs) as passengers and having my gas mileage drop 5 to 10 miles to the gallon. I guess I’d be wrong to assume that the mileage range they give is a difference in configurations. I came from a Ridgeline that I hardly noticed a change in the gas mileage when it was loaded up to go camping for two weeks, including a large Yakima.
What mileage have you been getting with your V6?

Tell your two 500 lb friends to take the bus and you will have a happy meal waiting for them at the destination. :)

So I have been running 91 Octane since new and thought I would try 87 Octane to see if the MPG improved.

I saw a bit of an improvement on the highway, getting about 22-24 mpg, compared to 18-20 mpg.

The only negative is that the initial throttle was a bit more lax and hard acceleration resulted in a bit of initial pinging.
