Great point!! I’m usually a every 3-4 year guy. Hmm and the waters get muddier. Haha
Lease a new one...I think unless you are paying cash every 3-4 years you are going to have a payment, pay on a new one and trade for the next newest thing.

Of all the things I've had on a vehicle that I wish I never paid for, the panoramic roof glass would be number one.

Hi all, been in market and reading this site for months now, excited to be a part of the community soon. The negotiated from MSRP topic has been helpful. Here’s my situation.

Buying in next weekish(end of month or potentially waiting to see feb rebates). I know what I want options wise.

Big Horn crew cab
Level 2
Sport
LED lights
Pano roof (can’t go without)
Black/grey/white in color any will work
8.4 screen
No axle ratio preference
4x4

I have a few options used, 2019 with around 20k miles that fit the needs. Prices on them are all around 38k, with negotiation probably 37ish some maybe a little less.
Now I have also shopped new but I have twins coming (hence need for bigger truck ha) so my absolute max budget is 42 before TTL. I see new models same options for about 44ish but not knowing feb rebates it’s unknown where that price may go. I know market is crazy right now, new and used. Should I just pull the trigger on a good used and be done with it or try to ride out new rebates and hope to see prices go down or more negotiable in February? I’m in Illinois and don’t want to travel more than a few hours to purchase.

Thanks in advance!
I’ll keep it short and sweet.... get the LED lights. You won’t regret it. And get the 3.92 gears.

I didn’t see you mention towing (unless my sleepy eyes completely missed it!), if you look at a V6 you can still haul all your kids and shave off some $$$.

My 2019 was a 6 and I loved it, the only reason I have a hemi now is because the six cylinder with the options I want was no where to be found.

I bought my truck in 2019 with similar options to what you list- MSRP 52,000 and my out the door price was 39,000. I certainly negotiated and played dealers against each other etc. but looking at how little prices have gone up think you could definitely come in under your cap. The pano roof might be the one thing that stops you from finding the deal but other than that a d especially if you're open to a 2020 I'd find one that had been on the lot for awhile and really work a deal. As another poster mentioned if you consider the V6 you might be able to save as well although my experience was the reverse as I wanted another pentastar truck and ended up with a hemi because of a sweet deal. Good luck!

Good advice from all so far. Definitely a couple things to think about.

Pano is a no no on here got it haha!! My wife has it on her GMC and we love it but you could be right I could probably try to live without it especially if that was the only thing holding me back from new.

LED lights I wouldn’t give up.

Warranty is fair and I too have to be ok with decision of probably 2”1 year left vs 3 on new. Although used may have things fixed already that I would run into w new.

I think if I can get a used at 35k it’s worth it and the 7k difference over new. But any less maybe not but that’s assuming I can get a new into my range.
I will give you a different perspective, since having pano sunroof on our jeep GC I will not get a vehicle moving forward without one. I dont like driving a coffin, lol. Maybe climates where it’s too hot it’s a different story, but we love ours on both vehicles and the shade is never pulled back, love the light.
Now new vs buy, looks like to buy used is still up there with a new truck. Personally I would go with new. Now, there’s nothing wrong buying a used vehicle still under factory warranty, because, well you still have the factory warranty and any issues the dealer will deal with them.
So to wrap up, you cant go wrong either way in this situation, it’s up to you if saving $6k is worth it buying new vs used.

No to hijack this thread, but what real life mpgs were you getting with the V6? It might be beneficial for the OP to know as well.

My 2014 bighorn quad cab 4x4 3.21 with the non-etorque pentastar was avg of 20-21mpg. My 2019 Bighorn crew cab 4x4 with non-etorque hemi is about 17mpg so about 4 mpg difference for me and that was before the etorque on the V6. Would guess the trucks were close in weight since the 2019 is a CC but the 5th gen is lighter than the 4th gen. I gotta say though it seems the real world mpgs are all over the board for similar trucks so driving and a million other factors have an impact.

Good advice from all, I expected nothing less! To address a few questions.....

I currently have a 2016 Silverado in the V6, I love and I wouldn’t sell but I need the crew cab to accommodate 2 car seats but I do not like the refreshed silvy. I look forward to the 5.7 and don’t want a v6 in the ram. Towing isn’t all that important though, I tow my fishing boat and that is it, maybe 1,500lbs so no issues there.

As far as leasing, I struggle putting down a few grand on a vehicle I don’t own. With trade in and my down payment on purchase even at 41k my payment would be about $380 which I prefer vs a little lower payment that doesn’t earn equity.

Hot topic: pano. If the right vehicle cane I could see giving it up if it means a new or sub 10k mile vehicle vs 20k miles w pano.

Things such as level 2, sport, and LEDs will not change. I’m not even looking at them if they aren’t LED.

Seems not too many CPOs out there because many have balance of factory warranty I’m guessing. Honestly if there is around a year or more of warranty left I am ok with that.

Trying to decide if feb rebates will be better but who knows. Not finding a 2020 within 200 miles that check all the boxes...I wish.

The best I can remember I was getting around 20MPG around town and 20-22 on the highway. Mostly I’d float right at 20 on a normal week (According to the Truck).

If you don't put a lot of miles on and decide to lease I wouldn't put any money into it - lease at zero down and stick your down payment in a 529 or 401k. You can build equity in a lease just like ownership -had an outback for 3 years and have almost 5k in equity at the end of the lease. It all depends on the market - I'm guessing my 2019 Ram will be a break even at lease end.

Same - my 2015 Silverado brought me $1200 at lease end and I was 20K over my mileage. If equity is what you are after then it's a gamble with the lease - but I always do zero down lease. I would rather keep money in my pocket than put it down on any vehicle.

Have lines out on about 6 vehicles right now. 2 new and 4 used. Due to work schedule I prefer email or text. I sent all email expressing I am buying this week and have a few questions and willing to negotiate potential purchase but yeeesh they are slow to respond. I know these are popular but it seems like they don’t even want to sell them.

I may be forced to call if I want to buy a car, bummer. Maybe if I call I can ask questions then ask for details in follow up email and shoot my offer from there. Any suggestions?

Before I purchased, I went through about a dozen local dealer's websites and used their contact form to get quotes. I only heard back from about half of them, and only got quotes on what I wanted from 3. It seems like some don't have real good web teams. Still stuck in the "get them on the lot" era apparently. I never went that route, but most had email addresses listed for sales managers as well. If you really want to push it, you might try contacting them to tell them their team is going to make you go elsewhere.

Think I’m going to lock down this deal.

2019 big horn
Level 2 equip
North edition
LED Lights
19k miles
Mats and wheel liners but Bedliner
34,900 plus TTL

asking was 35,900. They have told me 34900 is absolute best. If I go for 500 more off or walk away it will sell everything I have looked at has sold in 3 days or less.

versus new this is just too good to pass up. Thoughts?

Considering in your OP you mentioned the used trucks you were looking at were around 38k, I’d say it sounds like a pretty good deal. If it’s got everything you want and a clean carfax I’d say go ahead and pull the trigger.

Everything but pano, which I decided I could forgo.
Everything I was finding was black which I love but hard to care for and think I may get tired of, I prefer white which this truck is and is by far best deal for mileage I have found. Also has matching bumpers vs chrome which was a must.

I’d buy new for sure, I’ve had problems with my 19’ ram. Ram is buying back tomorrow and I built a 2021. The full 3 year warranty and lemon law option would be worth the extra money to me buying new. As someone else said you never know why someone traded it so early? I trade mine every 3-4 years with around 30,000 miles and besides needing tires there has been nothing wrong with any of the trucks I’ve traded in, however that’s not always the case. As far as the pano roof goes, it’s not for me, but I would rather have the 12” screen and air ride. Everyone has their opinion, however when your spending this much money, buy what you want. Even if you only use it a few times a year, if it makes you happy that all that matters. Just like I smile when I look at my 12” screen, did I need it, no but I wanted it! If you can swing the payments I’d definitely buy new unless you find a hell of a deal! Good luck in whatever you decide👍🏻
