Swapping Halogen Light assembly for LED assembly?

So this is my first post and I hope I can answer a few questions while looking for answers for others myself.

Today I took delivery of my Fifth Ram 2500 in the past 5 years. I had two 2016s one Laramie 2017 that I put 420K miles on without any issues and just traded my first Production Week 2019 Ram 2500 Bighorn on a new 2020 Ram 2500 Bighorn.

On all of my trucks, halogen or the Laramie Projector lamps, I went with Diode Dynamics for lighting. They are made in the USA, located in the St Louis area and any time I had an issue with a bulb, they replaced it or the anti-flicker module at no cost for the parts or shipping. Many times I would just drop in at their location and swap stuff out or pick it up. I have tried other brands of lights on some of my other vehicles, only to call Diode Dynamics and order the right parts for that vehicle. All that being said... I had originally wanted to swap to the 2020 OEM LED headlamps until I drove one at night to see the lighting was far less than my upgraded LED H11 & 9005 bulbs. For those who just have halogens and want the most light possible, you cannot beat the light fill and the pattern. I haul VERY high end boats all over the USA and when pulling something that costs more than most houses at night... you want the best possible lighting and do so without forking over the front door to pay for it.

Because of my company, I have to buy the BigHorn without all the frills so I added the LED flat beam fogs, not the round ones because I needed "side lighting" of the road to my left & right. I could look out my left window between the A-pillar and the mirror and couldn't see anything with even the best of headlamp lighting... the design simply pours all the light forward on the road. The flat beam was perfect and there is an easy adjustment screw on the housing to "get it right" if you find a level area. Because I am mostly towing between 10-14K loads all the time... I added the AirLift bags with the onboard compressor and remote switch with the gauge. This has proven to be the best addition to my truck and I even run 5psi in the bags when not towing anything to make it turn-in crisper.

Neither of my trucks have the front end parking sensors... so I installed four Amber LEDs, thekind you see on most trailers that fit inside a 3/4"-1" hole. I then ran the custom wiring harness from the OEM plug kits that come with the right push-in terminals to a red/white male/female plug I bought from O'reilly's in their trailer section... then ran the wire harness I made from marine 2/16-gauge tinned wire to a 15-amp fuse holder to the Accessory Power Distribution panel for trailer parking lamps. This way, any time my parking lights are on, the fogs come on too and without interfering with any of the CanBus wiring since it is on the trailer circuit. I have run my 2019 Ram like this since new, 152K miles without a flicker or problem. I will be installing these on my 2020 Ram tomorrow.

I plan to upgrade my tail-lamps to the Laramie LEDs and it is my understanding they are plug & play.

I will also install my LEDs into the factory Halogens as I have to drive from Redding, Ca to SC this week hauling the new SeaBreacher!

Has anyone purchased from this site? Kinda pricey but looks like it comes with everything you need.

it's a few hundred dollars cheaper if you buy the headlights from moparwholsaleparts.com and then the harness from retofit.us

I was in the same boat that you were in. I got every option on my truck but because it’s a big horn I couldn’t get the LED headlights when I have a crew Cab Long bed, pano roof and premium sound. Can’t even make it on the build your RAM on the website. So I ended up buying led headligt bulbs and switched every bulb in the front end to LED. Big difference and makes it a whole lot better. I will also be lightly tinting my headlights so it gives it that dark look like the LED factory headlights have. That will be done in the next month
Where did you get the bulbs?

Hey guys,

I'm considering buying a 2019 Big Horn. It has all that I want except the LED assembly. Is it possible to do a straight swap to the non projector LED setup? I like that one a lot.

They look like the same shape.

Thoughts?
Just throw in some Beamtech led headlights....or JDMastar. They're both decent. I had Beamtech led headlights in my F150 for two years without any issue.

For everyone that has done the swap, I’d a PWM module required for all the low beam applications? I installed some LED bulbs and my high beams work as they should, but the low beams came on and then shut off. I didn’t install a PWM, just the bulb with the driver that came with it that’s attached directly to the bulb like most any LEDs.

For the record...if anyone cares....Beamtech doesn't make bulbs for the new Ram reflectors. Auxito does though and they're great! No issues, $36. I'll post photos if anyone is interested.

Did you have to get a PWM for the low beams?

I did not need anything else to swap out the bulbs. It was plug & play. I did have to lower the reflectors by a full turn but that took about 30 seconds. 0 error lights/codes. Even the dust cover fit back on with no issues. The wire looked like it had some sort of small ballast already attached to it...maybe thats what you're referring to..?

I bought these, they have the little resistor box or whatever....but the high beams work and low beams don’t.

The picture isn’t the exact bulb obviously, but it’s got the same setup with the little box deal. IMG_6016.jpg

Based on your feedback, I ordered the same ones you got and they work perfectly. Thanks again!

I got these on Amazon. Pretty much plug and and play but the DRL only comes on when the low beam is on. I cut the green wire on the headlights and tap it to fuse 37 so now it comes on when the ignition is on. Love the OEM led look but didn't want to pay OEM price. So far so good.

Did your lights ever flicker or pulsate? Cuz I just bought the VLAND led projector headlights off of amazon, they just came out. They look badass but are flickering a little bit, and I cant figure out if i need to wire a resistor or something.

The one that I got came with halogen Highs and Lows. I bought some Car Rover LEDs for the Highs and Lows and I haven't had any problem with flickering. As far as the LED DRL that came with the headlights, I haven't had any problem with flickering.

Essentially, these are Spyder headlights. Seems to be a halogen and LED headlight versions available.

I’m sure but not certain that Spyder, DT Moto, ACANII, etc are all manufactured by the same company

Is it safe to say that ALL 5thgen OEM Halogen owners will be required to fuse tap in order to run only DRLs with any upgraded aftermarket or OEM setup?

When/Where does it flicker?

Have you tried contacting the manufacturer? I’ve read they have a 1 year warranty.

These headlights have piqued my curiosity
