Why don't you just add the proximity entry?
A lot cleaner and a lot easier of an install
Agreed...these "keypad" things are hideous looking. Had the nice builtin one on my Daughter's Ford Fusion that you couldn't see until it illuminated. NEVER USED IT ONCE!

Because we do not want to have to carry keys when out and about, which is why the keypad is so useful. I have proximity entry on my 20 Limited. The keypad on my F-150 is the only feature I miss. It was the best feature on that truck.

I loved that keypad on my 2015 F150. Now I understand why they keep using them, thought it was an antiquated system prior to me having it. But being able to access the inside of your truck for any reason while you don't have your key with you is great.

I would prefer the Lincoln keypads though on the RAM, which are practically invisible until you run your fingers over them.

So you would rather have your keys left in the vehicle and then if you God forbid forget to unlock the door, or somebody gets into your truck they can steal your truck easier?

Or if the keypad fails and doesn't work your keys are now locked in the car?

Not sure I understand the logic here but to each their own.

Lets say you want to go surfing or jogging and didn't want a big key fob on you, you can hide it in your vehicle and lock the doors, which also sets the alarm system. Who doesn't lock their doors & has their key in plain sight?

Sure, the keypad could fail, but that's a rare what if, not likely a common issue. You then call your wife or AAA should that somehow happens.

For me, the main advantage of the keypad was needing to access my vehicle without having to run back into the house for the key. Like say working in the yard but I left a tool in the cab or some paperwork, I can just use the keypad and get in and lock/set the alarm with it as well. It just made it super convenient, also great comfort to know you can never lock yourself out of your own vehicle.

Of course it's not like you have to use it, I know plenty of Ford owners who have never touched their keypads.

Ehh I’ll just use Sirius Guardian and unlock/lock when I’m in the rare position where I don’t wanna carry my key fob on me.

Don't you need your phone for that?

Yes, and after the first year is a paid service at $25/mo. No thanks.
It's actually $20, but that's not the only reason to have the service

Besides the unlock/lock feature... the ability to track your vehicle (say for example if you drop your truck off for any kind of service), plus remote start in the winter for long ranges where the key fobs out of range...

It’s $250-300 a year, hardy expensive when you compare how much these trucks cost.

Has anyone seen or installed a keyless entry key pad similar to the picture. I have a 2019 Ram 1500 Bighorn and am looking to add this to my truck if its available. I have not had much luck finding any that are made for the truck. Thanks in advance

Unfortunately for us, biometrics for door and stert are a couple of years down the road. But, when they get here, I want one.

Short answer, yes. If someone breaks into the truck without entering the door code, I understand the keys will not start the truck. I never removed the keys from the center console in my F-150. I just locked the door and walked away. It is just as easy to remember to push the remote button to lock the door as it is to push the door lock button on the door handle. I could check if I locked my F-150 with my phone… now with my Ram I have to pay a monthly fee to do that on my phone or Apple watch, and I do not have the keypad. If you have never used/needed the Ford keypad, it may be difficult to grasp the convenience it offers. I just hate carrying keys, and I guess so too do many Tesla owners who have now had their electronic keys put into a chip and inserted under the skin in their hand to unlock their cars. I do not want to go that far, I just would very much appreciate a keypad like I had on my F-150.

The flip side is that as much as these trucks cost, it should be free, like it is on Fords.

Also, very unreliable. Sometimes it takes several minutes to remote start the truck. Used it several times during the first year thinking I’d have a cooled truck waiting for me in the Houston humidity (sending the command from a third story building or inside a restaurant before paying the check), only to be met with sleeping truck.

Not worth it to me. Not for something that should work reliably every time.

I agree that it should be free for at least 3 years...that is reasonable. I, personally, use it and it has never failed me yet. Whatever I tell the app to do, my truck does it and hasn't missed a beat. I find that once I initiate a command, it typically takes between 30 seconds to a minute for it to happen.

I like the fact that I just spent $70,000 on a new Ram Limited and they won't provide the Uconnect access for a year at no charge. Ford gives free access to their customers. Did I not pay enough for the truck? Geesh!
amen amen... ridiculous
So I’m back to searching for a solution. I’m not paying $250 a year for it.
not fair to pay 250 for it, esp with the leading competitor includes in free.. doesnt feel great..
