Yes. That is the tought. They do not want people heading to the rural areas were health infrastructure is already small.

They want you to stay were you are and not head somewhere you wouldn't be.

We have one national forest in Pennsylvania. The Allegheny National Forest.

I can not locate anything about primitive camping and hiking...but believe it falls under the overnight accommodations ban...just not 100% sure and am assuming it isn't allowed either.

devildodge great stuff getting out there w/ the family and exploring. To piggyback, DE/MD beaches have been shut down for the past 6 weeks and supposedly aren't reopening until at least June. :(

Great stuff.
The National Forests in California that I usually use are open for off road travel and dispersed camping as of May 1st. April 1st is the target to open, but this year we had late snow and shelter-in-place. Looking forward to getting out there and exploring.

Looks Awesome, California is so diverse when it comes to getting outdoors. 2 hours in any direction can really get you into some really spectacular offroading/camping.

YA KNOW ONE QUICK CALL TO YOUR STATES APPROPRIATE AGENCY, wether it be Forest Service, Fisheries, or the Federal Agencies (if you have National Park in your State) . . . and you'll have your Current (ever changing) Information ! ! ! Starting at 'Your State.gov' . . . let the fun begin, hopefully . good luck !

So, we have been camping last weekend and are currently camping now.

I got my Purple Lizard Maps and am ready to go do some dispersed camping. We got a new tent and are ready to try it out. Just got to pull ourselves away from the travel trailer and 20200521_095140.jpg rough it

Nice! I need some of those.

My son and I did some dispersed camping last weekend, but not with the truck.

I have got a good bit of use out of the maps lately.

We have been out for joy rides and scouting. I hope to get camping more after the holiday. Hopefully the Covid campers lose interest soon lol.

I love people taking an interest in the outdoors, but they have come in force...but are forgetting to take it home with them.

I am hoping to hike more. Get a little further away.

Got our site reserved.

Apparently camping is still a great escape as Rothrock state forest was filled and Bald Eagle only had 14 sites available.

We didnt get the ones we originally requested. But we did get a decent one.

Looks like my son will get his first wilderness camping experience.

He has camped since birth in campgrounds with our travel trailer.

This will be a primitive site with our tent. No amenities. No light. Just the woods and the moon.

So excited. Now just to get the weekend here and load the truck with the atuff.

Can not wait.

I’m taking my little dudes camping this weekend too. Very much looking forward to it. Been almost a year since our first family (boys only) camping experience. I’ll be in the Catskills. Expecting rain showers but Its my first week off since February and the pandemic so I cannot wait for some fresh air and freedom.

Since my last trip I put on Rebel wheels/tires so I’m hoping to do some off roading while I’m up there.

On an "it gets better note". Our middle daughter decided to skip going to her friends and join Dad and brother on the expedition.

Just got to wait for the morning and we are gone from civilization for 2 days.

The kids get along so much better in the wild. Lol

Might look for the phrase dispersed camping instead of primitive camping?

We had the best time. We are home now. All of us are wishing we were still there..

It was so awesome seeing the kids work together with me to make the experience great. No other people, no Cell service. No lights no air conditioner noise. No people going back and forth to campsite.

Social distancing at its greatest.

Everything is opened back up again. We were talking in two different threads. I was saying here that They didnt mention the primitive camping allowed with hiking.

As it turns out, since I didn't reply back, primitive camping while hiking never closed. Dispersed and motorized camping (both require a permitted site here) were closed for Covid.

The dispersed sites were full this weekend. But, atleast they are very far apart...the campgrounds have been booked solid.

So now you can primitive camp if hiking and dispersed camp at the motorized campsites. And all parks and picnic areas are open too.
