Things may to start tighten for dealers and car makers.

Depending on their account terms with some of their suppliers (net 30, 45, 60), the end of this month may be the last payment suppliers get from manufacturers until they open plants and start producing cars again.

I also saw some stories where dealers were not taking back leased cars when people went to turn them, forcing people to take a new vehicle or extend their lease. This leaves some people in a spot because they feel they need to keep insurance and registration on those cars. in addition to keep paying for the lease. One person said the dealership told them to be patriotic because of the pandemic (not bothering to ask if the person had lost their job and couldn't afford to extend or take a new lease). Another said no one is on site to accept turn ins, but they are on site for new deals. More dealer shenanigans. Breach of contract is OK if they do it.

I have a lease ending in June, they're getting that gd car back because I have a contract stating as much. Wont me to be patriotic, ok, give me 0% interest on this lease return for 100 years. Thats complete BS

Exactly they have no choice. Turn the car in and they can pound sand.

Correction, a dealer told one customer, "Do you know we are in a pandemic? You should be less selfish and think about what’s going on in the country! ”
- In other words, you should not be so worried about your financial situation. Think of how you can help out the millionaire owner of the dealership...

This story paints a pretty bleak picture for dealers regarding ending leases:

"With an average of 340,000 car leases set to expire each month as the economy struggles during the coronavirus crisis, industry experts told USA TODAY that automakers and their in-house finance companies have shifted the burden onto consumers by pushing for lease extensions or new leases. "

Some advice at the of the article including getting an extension on your terms::
  • If an auto dealership tries to block your attempt to return the car, summarize in a letter and/or email what has happened. Send the letter and/or email to the auto dealership and finance company stating the lease has expired and you no longer are responsible for the car. Keep a copy of the correspondence.
  • If you accept a lease extension, ask that the monthly payments be cut in half. Do not be afraid to negotiate. "Really, the consumer is holding the cards,'' Rosner said.
  • If the dealership says no one is available to conduct an inspection of the car before it is returned, take photographs and video of the interior and exterior of the car in case you're charged fees for wear and tear beyond reasonable use.

I just bought a ram rebel, msrp of 62390, so very similar In price and got them down to 55000 even before rebates. They tried a 6% initial offer, then 9% and wound up with a little over 11% when I said I would buy that today. I would say after reading quite a bit on this forum , you should be able to get atleast 10% off a rebel from msrp. Seems easier to get more on laramies and bighorns
I got my Rebel down to $51k from $63k last month. Larry H Miller in Boise, ID

Is asking for 30% off a Laramie 1500 (msrp 56k) with all doc fee’s + “freight” reasonable? I’m also asking for very good for KBB trade-in.
Over the phone/email, i constantly keep hearing 3k less than KBB value. Ramtrucks.com gives an exceptionally-great trade in value and NADA puts it above kbb’s “very good.” What.the.hell.gives?

Should i wait until May? Even though i have a an additional $1k rebate e-mailed to me?

I'd say fat chance you see 30%. Even last June's sale of all sales usually topped out just shy of 30% off.

Yeah 30% on Laramie seems pretty damn generous. I'd be happy with anything 25+, personally.

I'm waiting till May or even June, no rush
Maybe this June will be like last June. I bought early (April 19’) and overpaid by about $6-7K... at least my son got the June deals. Something good anyway.

All you that just bought a new truck need to apply for that ‘Bonus Drive‘ $250 electronic rebate.
I’m kinda getting tired of typing that, anyone else want to take over?
Patsy1099 carried the freight for a year, I’ve tried to help out to publicize it, time to move on. We don’t get anything by telling you new owners, just paying it forward so to speak. (It does raise your post count, ha ha.)

I concur. I think a little patience could save a lot of money. With the factory closed the dealers aren't under as much pressure to move inventory, there isn't any more coming in. Once the factory does open that is going to be the game changer. With the factory churning out new trucks in a depressed economy both FCA and the dealers will be under much more pressure to move inventory. Increasing factory incentives and increasing dealer discounts is the only way I can think of to move the metal. And maybe bring back the Chrysler Maxcare LIFETIME warranty. That would be nice.

Just an update while looking at my dealer’s stock. He has 10 non ET hemi Limiteds and 12 with ET. He has about 5 diesels and at least 2 v6’s. All are 4x4. Somewhere I recently read on this forum that a buyer was only seeing ET Limiteds in their area. Not here.
Rebels are averaging $9K to 10K off no matter what the MSRP is.
Oh wait, here’s a deal (likely a misprint but who knows!)
2020 RAM 1500 Rebel Quad Cab Engine: 3.6L V6 24V VVT eTorque Engine MPG Range: 19/24 Exterior Color: Granite Interior Color: Black Cloth/Vinyl
Stock #:201012 Drive Line:4WD
  • MSRP $49,330
  • You Save $19,121
  • Internet Price $30,209
New 2020 Ram1500 Rebel Truck Quad Cab
  • VIN: 1C6RRFEG8LN317481
  • Stock: 201012

I’m not pulling your leg, that‘s what‘s listed. Kernersville RAM in North Carolina. Remember its a quad Cab v6, and as of this morning 4/20/2020. You can click on the window sticker on their website, it has the upgrade 1 package too. If I had a spare $30K I’d get it... So where’s my covid check?
Edit - I bought from a 23 yr salesman (at the same place) named David F. I’d recommend him. He’s not family and I get nothing if you do, just passing along a (shocking) price.

Originally wanted a custom order, but obviously a big hold on that. So after much searching I located a Laramie within 150 miles of me (Atlanta) that ticks most of my boxes. Their first offer to me is 12% off MSRP @ 0% for 84mos 90 days no payments. No one within 25 miles of me (4 dealerships) would do more than 8% off MSRP along with the 0% 84mos. After a VIN history search and analyzing their pics of the truck it seems as though this vehicle is somewhat of a unicorn?

ODO reads 427 miles and they have offered to drive it up to me (125 miles one way), let me inspect it and test drive it, without any commitment from me. If something is not right in my eyes then they take it back no foul. The seller states the mileage is from delivering it to sell it (twice), but it didn't work out.

So the unicorn part: it has the RAM Limited trim piece on the lower half of doors below RAM emblem. It also has chrome inserts within the door handles. The wheels are 18" with the base 6-spoke design, but they are polished rather than satin base 18" wheels I've seen on ALL the Laramie's I've looked at locally. The seller says this is how they got the truck. I haven't made a counter offer yet. It's been on their lot since Feb 1. Ideas?

What boxes does it not tick? Anything big? How much do you want that color/bed length/option package?

I’d rather have bought a Laramie with 18” wheels if it was for me but everyones tastes are different.
