Brought home my new RAM Limited Wednesday. Was really disappointed in the dealer for not cleaning it better, but I'm a detail enthusiast so I took care of it. However when washing today, I found this in the passenger rear door.

I was pissed and disappointed all at the same time. I'm gonna call first thing tomorrow, but I know what is gonna happen. "Oh don't worry, we will take care of it." The problem is I didnt buy a brand new truck to have a new truck with paint repair. I bought a new truck cause I didn't want to deal with others past issues.

Now here I am...anyone have any suggestions on how to handle this? What I want is a different truck, but not sure my chances of being successful are real good.

I understand how you feel but new vehicles undergo paint repairs all the time, as they are often damaged in transit. That seems like a small repair and should not be noticeable if done correctly.

I would love to assure you that they would swap out trucks for you, but sadly I do not see that as being the case. They always want the chance to take care if it before letting it get to that point. Only you can decide how hard you want to go with that and to achieve what from it. My first truck I didn’t own for forty five minutes before it went back. My second one I only had for 20 hours before it was back at the dealership. We worked out a deal that I felt that I could live with and gained several things in the meantime.

I know it seems like a big deal right now because it's a brand new truck and you want it perfect but paint blemishes are common. Many of our trucks had them, we just didn't know if because they were caught at the factory and repaired the same way that a dealer will repair it. Yours simply got missed. Many vehicles get dings just being on the lot, that's why dealers have PDR guys on contract. We all bought those cars not knowing there was ever a problem because they know how to fix these things.

Have the dealer fix it, get a couple of free service visits for your inconvenience and enjoy your new truck.

I think the above posts are all spot on. I know it’s probably not what you want to hear. I’m sure you are disappointed and angry. Don’t blame you. Unfortunately once you take delivery, you have signed off on the condition so it limits your options now. That said, the dealer has to make it right. A good shop can fix that so you’d never know. Tell them you want it absolutely perfect and think of something they can throw in for your trouble. Bed step, bed cover, both? This way you go in with exactly what you want them to do to make it right. Keep us posted.

In all our excitement with taking delivery, we all need to remember to go over these vehicles with a fine tooth comb, inside and out, during daylight, before signing off. I’ve missed things on past vehicles as well and learned my lesson.

Thanks for the feedback. In my mind I was already there on what you are saying, but still frustrating as heck. Live in learn I guess. I will come back with the final outcome and let ya'll know what happens.

Thanks again!

Agree with all above replies. In the end these are just “things”, and sad to say they will get marred. It sucks that it had to start that way but after the fix, then you are fine until the dreaded first parking lot ding/scrape. Or hailstorm, or rock chip/crack. Argh!

^^unfortunately you are correct. Just discovered my first scratch washing the truck last name and I’m furious and sad all at once.

About a month ago we purchased a new Jeep Grand Cherokee. It wasn't until the next day that we noticed a paint defect on the roof. The dealer told us to bring it in to have their body shop look at it. The dealer ended up purchasing the vehicle back, and put us in a new GC. Absolutely no going back and forth with them on the issue...they took really good care of us. I'm sure it worked in our favor that they had an identical GC on the lot that they were able to put us into.

Sorry to see that!

Should be a simple fix for their local painter (sand and repair) .. maybe 1 day but they may hold for up to 3 or so.

Hi natew51,
We certainly understand why this may be frustrating. If you would like any additional assistance while working with your dealer towards a resolution, please send our team a private message!

So just an update for everyone.

The dealer initially came back with "no new car returns" as we all expected they would. After some back and forth, I now have two options on the table.

1) Keep my truck, they will fix it and cut me a check for $800.

2) Try to locate a replacement truck and swap me out of mine. We found one at another dealer, but the dealer won't give it up.

Neither option is bad, but we haven't finalized either. I will keep you posted on the final final, but my hat goes off to the dealership for stepping up to the plate and taking care of a customer!

As a 2019 Ram owner for 10 months I can say with certainty I'd take option one and be pumped if this was the worst of my issues.
I hear where you're coming from but in the grand scheme a small paint repair isn't a huge deal.
Lots of people myself included on here have experienced some serious issues.
I had to have two injectors replaced and they had my "new" pickup more than I did for the first two months

I had a door doing right on the body line crease and was furious. They offered to fix it or give me $500. I chose fix and if it wasn’t to my liking I would take the $500 which they agreed to. Wow, they did a phenomenal job. Had it for 3 days, you would have thought they put a new door on. Completely fixed and they blended the paint with the other door and fender so you wouldn’t know it was even painted.

Looks like a ding....I cant believe how careless some people are...I always park out by myself usually with a tree or curb on one side to minimize damage from other cars.....and still somebody (usually a woman) parks very close to me

See if you can get some money or an extended warranty from the FCA...Create a case with them. Dont just rely on the dealer.

Thank Joeyp, yeah they will do $800 plus fix the truck, so sounding more and more like that is they way to go.
