Traded in my 2013 Ram 2500 for a 2019 Ram 1500 Crew with the higher tow and payload capacity. Finding a 1500 with the higher tow capacity is more difficult to find on lots than it should be. Anyways, the new truck has the break controller which I need for towing our 31 foot travel trailer. It doesn't however have tow mirrors, my options were limited, searched 4 Ram lots... Is it possible to swap out my mirrors with new stock tow mirrors? How hard is this to do? Dealer only? I need this fixed before our first big trip in July. Thanks for any info!

I purchased mine here: https://www.1aauto.com/search?q=tow+mirrors&year=2019&model=2800

I did the installation myself which took less than a 1/2 hour. Mine have to be programmed at the dealership to turn on the 1. turn signal indicator, 2. puddle light and 3. to get the mirror toggle to flip with the mirrors (otherwise they are opposite when flipped up). I haven't had the programming done yet to know if it works correctly. One dealership quoted me $135 to have it done. I tried to find out if I could do it myself but it appears FCA has locked out programming to aftermarket OBDII scanners with software.

EDIT: I have a 2019 Ram 1500 Classic

Just be aware you loose a few things if you get the stock tow mirrors

Not defrosted
Not power folding
No cameras for the 360 view, assuming it is equipped with that

You might wanna try swapping with someone looking to get rid of their tow mirrors. Post it in the Buy/Sell/Trade forum, it seems regular mirrors are preferred over the tow mirrors. However, the “classic” model mirrors might differ from the new body style, I personally don’t know.

Not a fan of the passenger side tow mirror in the non-tow position. I find my blind spot increases significantly because of the magnification effect of the regular mirror. I think my next truck I will get the regular mirrors and just clip on the extenders. This was really my only complaint other than no power retract.

I swapped my tow mirrors out for power folding-- I have the tow mirrors,-chrome they have the blind spot monitoring (BSM), defrost, puddle lights, and I have the modules, and switch all on EBAY (SOLD THEM)- super easy to re- install

I'll just trade you my black tow mirrors and be done with it lol
I gotta do some research and see how they work with the setup I have... Do I need a different working harness since the mirrors have different d features?

I have no idea mine are just power moving mirrors, manual folding. No blind spot

I don't know if this is repeat info or not, apologies if it is, but I thought I'd post this in case anyone is interested in after-market towing mirrors that do all the power folding, flipping and extending that a person could want, I think.

https://www.amazon.com/ModifyStreet-2009-2018-2010-2018-Mirrors-Control/dp/B07V7X4TTJ/

I have never actually seen them, I just stumbled on them searching on Amazon, thought I'd share the link in case it might be of use to someone.

No kidding my passenger side tow mirror is useless for daily driving. Impossible to adjust for blind spot. Took me a while to figure out its magnified to see down back side of a trailer. I thought i was going crazy.

Yep. I never flip mine down anymore because of this. It’s awful. I actually like the way they look Down more than the standard mirrors, because they just have better shape to me. But it’s impossible to see anything. I’ve got used to driving around with the moose look now

With the mirrors flipped up you have large blind spots in your forward quarters field of vision. I'm okay with that if I'm towing, otherwise I flip them down and get an assist with the blind spot monitoring on the passenger side.

I don’t have any issues with that. You can see everything in the Lower mirror when it’s vertical, depending on how it’s set.

I keep playing with mine. I guess I'm getting used to them. Bumping my seat up higher than i normally sit seemed to help . I don't have a clue why.........

I am curious to know, if you have adjusted the blind spot. You have to do this manually(unless you have a 2019 HD)

I have the tow mirrors on my 99, 03, and 15 and they allow me to see everything on the road.

I set mine for normal driving in the down position and towing in the extended position. (There are internet memes that will explain why you shouldn't have them flipped out without a hitch or trailer attached)

I can see into either lane well and the blind spot shows me a vehicle right up until I can see their bumper at my front door.

The ones on my 99 and 03 have a fixed one in just the corner. The new style with the full side blind spot are even better.

I set the blind spot also, so I can see the parking spot lines near the rear wheel. This makes parking so easy.

Curious to know how you have them set that you can not see with them.

The simple answer is you can see a lot more out of the blind spot mirror when it’s horizontal (mirror is vertical). When it’s vertical (mirror is horizontal), it’s tall and skinny and unless you REALLY get it in the right spot you tend to have a blind spot again either really close to the back tire or really far out on the side where a car would be in the second lane over. These mirrors are just impossible to be able to see down the whole side easily when they are flipped down IMO.

They seem worse than the older ones, I don’t remember the 4th gen ones being nearly as bad as this. I’ve driven a bunch of Cummins trucks and never noticed it being an issue, don’t know if these mirrors are different? Haven’t driven the new 2500, would be interesting to see if it’s the same way.

I don’t care about internet memes, I’m going to choose better visibility every time. Plus it stops most people from parking so close to you that you can’t open your door.

I don't have the issues you are expressing, so I guess that is what I am missing, and the memes line was to be a joke, put your mirrors however makes you able to use them. Was just curious if members knew you could adjust them as the 3rd gen ones you could not.
