Would you let dealer wet sand paint nibs?

So there's a fairly large grouping of what appears to be large paint nibs/dust/grit under the paint just above the rear passenger tail light.

I can't tell whether they're in the clear or the base coat but they definitely stick up quite a bit. Dealer said they would want to try correcting thru wet sanding first otherwise they'd have to repaint. I'm not super anal about my truck normally. It sits outside and my old truck often went months between washes. The RAM is getting babied right now just cause it's so new and shiny. My concern is that not correcting all that grit could lead to a problem further down the road after I'm out of warranty. However reading up on wet sanding seems like most detailers try to avoid it at all costs on factory paint because the clear coat is too thin and it can remove too much UV protection from the paint potentially causing other issues in 2 - 3 years.

I'm also really not too sold on the idea of the dealer taking apart the truck to repaint the bed either.

Is this something I really need to get corrected or is it something that if I can live with us better left alone?

That looks like surface contamination in the substrate. No amount of wetsanding will fix it. I wetsanded my Ram myself because I didn't trust the dealer to do it. I was surprised at how tough the paint is. The clear is very hard and quite thick.

Repaint. Wetsand removes clear coat.

Here's a shot that shows where on the truck. It's not normally this noticable. Just worked out that the sunlight was at the perfect angle to light it up for the picture.

I noticed similar issues in my factory paint as well. I noticed several areas on the truck the day I picked it up. The dealer agreed they were paint defects and said they would work with FCA to take care of it. That was in March and I am still waiting for resolution. I took the truck to the dealer and let them take all the pictures they wanted, and after several weeks they sent me to a body shop to have the truck looked over. We have identified 25-30 areas where the factory paint has some contaminants, and a few areas with runs in the paint. as well as areas where I assume the paint was scratched in transit. The dealer and the body shop were both surprised to see so many areas with paint defects, and while I love the truck I am sad that it has so many paint flaws, especially given the price of the vehicle. Like you I don't know what my best solution here is....I don't want them to burn through my clear coat trying to "fix" it and repainting would require a lot of teardown work on my brand new truck.

Nope - I'd let the dealer pay a professional body shop to fix that problem -

I’d go with the dealer on this. If they do it right, you’re a satisfied customer; if not they’ll have to send it to the body shop and get it right.

Either way you get a good resolution.

This is a great example of why we must inspect the trucks meticulously when we pick them up for the first time at the dealer. Once you drive off they hold all the cards
