I plan to trade my 14 ram on a used 19 Rebel ( almost new with only 10k miles but was a rental so could be hard miles I guess ) ( or a brand new tradesman since I can get either one for about the same price ), Ive read about alot of issues with the infotainment systems but I dont know which one theyre talking about. My 14 bighorn has the small stereo and never gave any problems - same stereo as the tradesman.

Hello generally speaking they are referring to the 12” one. Again as usual this is a hit or miss deal as I in no way have solid numbers. I really wanted a Tradesman as I wanted to keep my truck simple and add only the things I wanted onto it. Meaning more aftermarket less extra cost oem.

From what I have seen on the forums, it would "appear" that the 12" has the most problems, but I have no actual figures

It's usually the 12. The reason is due to the software limitations of Uconnect 4. It was designed to support only 4:3 screens, not the new larger screens that are coming out now. The new Uconnect 5, which will be available in 2021 vehicles was designed to support larger screens in various formats.

With that said, I think FCA did a pretty good job with the 12 inch screen despite the software limitations of Uconnect 4.

Sorry for the tangent, but is there a reference somewhere of already-known changes for 2021? I’m sure there are lots of rumors ;) but I’m wondering about known ones.

Thanks!

I somewhat disagree with comments stating it’s the 12” that has more problems. It seems to me that the issues have depended largely on hardware and software versions.

I’ve had a problem-free experience with my 12”, for example, despite being on original hardware and one of the oldest functioning software versions. I’m not saying that this has been everyone’s experience, but it is true for me.

At the same time, one of the oldest threads on this forum was titled something like “screen themes not saving” or resetting, and that was a glitch on trucks with 8.4” systems that is (apparently) still hanging around for some.

Bottom line - go to a dealership and try them out. Buy the one you like. You will likely have no issues, but there’s always a chance you could get unlucky and need a warranty repair or software update.

wow that's good news, they should have used android from the beginning. There's a reason its the most popular operating systems in the world (even more than windows)... its customizeable, its reliable, super easy to program because its been open source from the beginning, so no proprietary B.S., backwards compatible pretty much until hardware limitations are reached. So all around smart move by FCA and GM.

Will also be easier for third parties to modify it.

Thanks for all the info guys , Im a little leery about trading a perfectly good truck especially for an ex rental , but the one Im most interested in does have the 8 inch so just trying to ease the anxiety a little.

So...2022 or later for the Ram.

Generally it's the 12" but I would venture to say that 99.9% of them don't have a problem with theirs. I haven't had one issue with mine.

Love the 13!
Wine has wrangler with the 8. And it seems so primitive....

But also, comparing a wrangler to a almost fully loaded 1500.... apples and iguanas...

Agreed. Im glad both GM and FCA have made the move to Android. Lots of potential.

Its 50/50 for 2021. But Im thinking 2022 as well.

My 12” has been great. Only issue I’ve had was the USB hub, which had a bent connector from the factory. After that was fixed by dealer, it’s been awesome.

12" for sure...however the latest OTA update seems to have made a big difference in squashing bugs. Mine has been flawless since the update.

12 inches here also good, except one bug is sometime it popup ask me want to set my phone as favorites device or not but it fixed after recent updated.
