What Radar Detectors are you Running?

Theia, I believe. I thought it was coming out Q1/2 of 2020? They said it's all pretty much done other than the packaging. I've held off updating my 2 Passport Max and the XP Pro SE in anticipation of Theia.

Vortex interviewed them at SEMA. They said end of 2020, as they still have a ton of R&D to do to get it to market.
Worth the wait in my opinion.

Well...I watched the videos, but missed that.

My Passport Max(s) false a LOT less than the Radenso so I'll use them for now and cash the other.

Cortesio! That's a clean install, which is how I normally like to do things. However, I have the Llumar metallic tint at the top of the windshield, and anyway I'm not sure how the sticky tape would hold here in "Fluurda". I haven't had much luck here with 3m tape-to-windshield installs, but as an exception I have had good luck with the Garmin 45 dash cams, and the little magnetic mount with sticky tape - it has held through thick and thin on several vehicles for some reason.

Could you tell me a little more about what kind of plate that's holding it, just in case I get brave and try to do the same?

This time, laziness set in so I just set it on an extra rubber phone pad I had laying around.

Mine is the Uniden DFR7 with GPS. For $157 (Amazon) I can't complain. I bought it to replace and old Escort 8500 which died when I dropped it. I have to leave the K band turned on with all filters activated, would you believe my local PD uses K along with Ka and POP? Needless to say, it's a hassle to set the automatic GPS-enabled mutes around town, but I think I have them all now saved in memory. The only time I have trouble is when I'm behind a Mazda SUV, and it's going the same direction, it comes on and stays on until I can activate my V-8 Hemi filter to move ahead.

I had a leftover hardwire cable from my Escort, which was an easy install on this truck.

Just picked up The Uniden R7 with remote mute. Haven't installed it yet, too damn cold out but I will most likely hang it on the suction cups for now and then in better weather hang it from the rear view with a permanent power source. It has the latest firmware so I didn't have to update it but I installed all the software to do so. (on my pc)

Looks like it does wayyyyyyy more than what I need but I like to go big or go home anyway.

That Beltronics RX65 has kept me from getting another ticket in the 13 years since (growing up a little might have helped too). I didn’t move it into my last truck when I bought it in 2016. Now that I have my Ram, I figured it was prime time to get back into it.

With the ubiquity of BSM systems on cars these days, I wanted to get something newer that had some degree of filtering built in. I ended up getting a Uniden R3 and hardwired it to the interior fuse box under the steering wheel. The last time I ran a RD, I had it tapped into the overhead console wiring and mounted to the mirror with a BlendMount.

I really liked the BlendMount and was going to get one for the Ram, but it seemed like it would be hanging down too far based on the position of the mirror and how tall I am. I opted to put it up near the headliner on a metal bracket stuck to the windshield with 3M VHB tape.

What kind of equipment are you guys running in your trucks?

I'm more interested in how/what you used to mount your radar with and if you direct wired it into the mirror with mirror tap or direct to fuse box? That is a very clean setup that doesn't hang down using the blend mount, making it very obvious one has a radar detector.

I found the mount on eBay. Less than $10 for a metal bracket with a bit of 3M VHB tape. I prepped the surface before mounting and it has shown no sign of releasing. Search for an R3 Permanent Windshield Mount.

I ended up hardwiring to the fuse panel under the steering wheel. It was easier and cleaner to tuck the wire that way instead of trying to mess with the mirror.

Escort MAX 360c, works great but in order to use the WiFi function in out trucks you need to convert the 5Ghz signal to 2.4Ghz as the 360c only works with 2.4 and our trucks are 5.

This is what I added:

Thanks for the tip. Looking to do this myself, as my dash cam and radar detector both require 2.4ghz. Can you share more about how you set this up? How did you run power to the router, where did you mount it, and did you need a computer to set it all up? After you start your truck, how long until the router powers up and starts broadcasting its WiFi signal?

Radenso XP Pro SE. Probably the longest range RD out there. They have a new model coming out that will make GPS lockout and BSM falses a thing of the past.

Still waiting for this to come out. If the hype is right, it will be awesome.
