vibration through steering wheel

First, let me start by saying I have never actually owned a diesel before just worked around them and old machinery.

That said, I am getting a very high-frequency vibration when going up a hill or grade around 1800-2100 RPM. I feel it in the steering wheel and through the gas pedal. I would say that it is like holding a Sonic toothbrush and it occurs if the engine is 'lugging' a bit and goes away if there is an upshift and change in RPM.

Now this could just be a diesel thing but at any other RPM this baby is perfectly smooth. Does anyone else have this?

Diesel engines have vibration at various engine RPM's that feel different from a gas engine. I've found that while under throtle and especially up hill or grade in a similar RPM range, vibration can be felt in the steering wheel. I'm sure other members will chime in to provide their opinion as well.

I have not experienced that with my 2016. It may be that I have the air suspension, crew cab or the long 6'4" bed. Just drove it up a large hill this morning and tried to see if I could feel anything and could not feel anything out of the normal. I did have a similar issue with a 2010 Subaru outback, the thing would vibrate at 65 miles an hour - they found a defect in manufacturing on the way they set the steering up. Subaru took mine, flew out a guy from California, reviewed my records and observations and did a little R&D on it for about 2 weeks - they replaced the steering column mounting brackets and engine mounts- solved the problem and they then issued a fix to the dealers. It was definite aggravating trying to solve the issue as I thought it was tires, balancing, alignment, etc.... Nearly checked everything I could before they worked on it. Good luck on yours, The Subaru was so bad you could not hold the steering wheel for any length of time but fixed now and wife is still using it - hopefully you do not have a major issue. Just ordered my 2020 diesel so my fingers are crossed I am not going to run into a similar issue.

Did you find a solution to this?? I recently got a pre-owned 2020 ED and felt the same vibration going up a hill.

Same here, although my Ram is equipped with the 3.6L V6. Vibration around 2000 RPM while vehicle is under load, not while in Neutral. Felt in the steering wheel, floor, seats, gas pedal. I have about 5000 miles on the truck now... It doesn't appear to be exhaust drone - maybe something with the 4WD, transfer case, transmission, etc?

I custom ordered a RAM 2020 1500 limited Ecodiesel and received December 23rd 2019. I have been suffering this vibration too in the steering wheel, accelerator pedal, passenger floor board but not the seats.
My dealer Bay Dodge Panama City went through all the hoops and even rented a vibration meter from Ram. They told me it was the new HD frame. Can I get a bucket of compressed air with that diagnosis? It is clearly coming from the engine between 1900 to 2500 rpms under moderate acceleration which means all the time in the city. It is also intermittent making it worse in terms of diagnosing it. I now have close to 14K miles on the truck and believe it is related to the fuel system, maybe the high pressure fuel pump. It is maddening stroking a 65K check for a new truck and cannot get the issue resolved. Also suffered a blown airspring front right at 10K miles making the truck undrivable for two weeks while waiting on part. But if I was out of town it would of ruined your day, week, or trip. The truck is not drive able with a blown spring. You can go 45 but will be bounced to death. The air spring failed internally-no external damage and I baby the truck. A computer went out and that took a while to get a new computer.
Also having issues with Ram Box lids aligning when closed. And a factory dent in door jamb that Ram is saying outside influence. I am not going to attach any photos yet in hopes Ram handles business and fixes issues.
Here is my advice Ram after running a business for 25 years. Take care of your customers. I can afford to buy a new truck every few years and usually do, so if you ignore me and I sell my Ram and move on. I do like the truck But here is what I would change: 1. Airsprings, while a nice ride they are no good if you are worrying when the next one will pop. 2. This should be #1 Fix the engine vibration. I like the engine torque curve and fuel mileage but that vibration has to be fixed. 3. Ram Box lids-please stamp them out of aluminum. The plastic moves in the sun and comes out of alignment. Overall the truck is a winner EXCEPT for the issues I am having.
I am even willing to drive the truck to you wherever on my dime if you promise to fix it. Just call Bay Dodge Ram Panama City and speak with Chad service advisor and he will tell you who I am. And if you fix my truck issues I will tell everyone online how you took care of business. We are in trying times so you get a Covid Mulligan.

I think the vibration is temperature related. I seem to feel it more when oil is cold. It does seem more pronounced going up hills. I know my 2017 hemi never had this or the throttle lag.

After 2 FCA Customer Care cases, I’m told that the vibration in V6 models at 2000 RPM is a “characteristic of the vehicle” and they will don nothing to fix the issue (because there is no issue). Keep up the good fight if you can. It’s about useless trying to get any support to resolve a problem that makes the vehicle unbearable to drive.

Same exact issue with my newly used V6 ram. 1st time RAM truck buyer...so wish I checked this forum before buying this is a deal breaker, makes my foot numb at that Rpm...need to used cruise control as a work around ..just sad!
