This issue is driving me nuts..... I only listen to music from my phone, over BT, every time I get in the truck, I never use anything else. Every time I get in, I have to press Media button, then scroll down and click the BT button.

Whats really driving me nuts is I also have a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee with what looks like the same exact radio/unit, and with that if I am driving it every day, every time I get in, it resumes playing what was playing when I got out of the car the night before. I always remote start and sometimes my BT music is playing before I get in the car, right where I left off when I got out the night before.

I just dont get it, the radios look identical but the Ram is 1 year newer, also the Jeep has nav, theRam doesnt. I spent an hour looking through the settings but couldnt find anything. I will try the steps mentioned above tomm..

Maybe 1 time a month, my truck will auto start/connect/play bluetooth when I get in. :|

Sounds like my last Ford with Microsoft Sync. I wish they would just let Apple make these radios.

Any update to this issue? Just purchased a 2019 Big Horn and this is a HUGE annoyance to me.

My 8.4 on the Media / USB Thumb Drive option reverts back to the first song 90% of the time I enter my truck. Not all the time.. but most of the time.

My 2020 ram Laramie 8.4 starts playing where it left off when I turn the truck off And then restart it the next day Whether it be Bluetooth Or radio. If I was using Apple CarPlay it will start back on CarPlay as soon as I plug my phone in.

EDIT: This fixed it once for me, but apparently is a longer-term fix for another user. I'm having other issues with the vehicle that might be related and made a separate post for them.

---

Howdy all! First post. I called up the Uconnect customer service and got the fix to this problem.

Problem: Phone is connected via Bluetooth, playing music from phone to vehicle via Bluetooth. Turn vehicle off. Turn vehicle on, and audio reverts to FM radio.

Fix:

1. Sit in driver seat, doors closed, vehicle off.
2. Foot off the break, press start/stop button once to place vehicle in ACC mode.
3. Press the start/stop button twice to turn off vehicle.
4. Hold the Voice Recognition and Green Phone buttons on the steering wheel for 30 seconds, then let go.
5. Open the driver door for 30 seconds, or until the dash display cluster turns off - whichever comes first, then close the door.
6. Hold down the break pedal, and press the start/stop button to start the vehicle normally.

After I did step 6, my Uconnect system quickly flashed through several screens including what looked like a dial pad and the text "enter anti-theft code" (?). It still started in FM radio, but when I pressed the Media icon, it immediately went to Bluetooth (whereas in the past, I would have to hit the down arrow then select Bluetooth). I restarted the vehicle normally again, and this time it went straight to Bluetooth.

Let me know if you have any questions, or you can call Uconnect General Support here: https://www.driveuconnect.com/contact-us.html

They asked for the last 8 characters of my VIN and had me verify my name, address, and phone number (which I assume they got through RAM). Edit: The second guy asked for my address and email, then asked if I wanted to add my phone number, so I guess they weren't for verification, but to add to their records.
Thank you it works for me

Unfortunately the multi-step solution did not work for me. I tried it with the phone bluetooth on and going through the procedure and also with the bluetooth off. Same end result - it takes a while to connect the phone to bluetooth and always reverts back to the radio/XM. I also have to always scroll through media to select bluetooth even after it is connected.

Did not work permanently for me. Phone does not connect fast enough for phone to connect. Radio comes on. Then it’s a 10 second wait and 2 button presses of media to connect to Bluetooth.

2019 Tradesman with same issue.
The really annoying part is that starting the truck starts at the previous volume and you can't turn it down or mute or off for 5-10 seconds.

I know this is a bit of an old string, but i have been trying to find a fix for this also. Wait for the phone to connect (takes about 15 seconds) then hit the button on your steering wheel between the volume buttons on the back and it will switch to the last used setting. This has put a huge smile on my face! Hope this helps!
RAM RULES (even if uconnect is sketchy)

I followed the directions provided by TCP and it worked for a week then reverted back to the radio coming on as soon as our 2021 Big Horn started. I just called UConnect customer service to see if they would provide the same or different directions and the person at UConnect told me that the system is designed for the radio to automatically come on as soon as the truck is started and there is no way to change this. I told this person that someone else had previously spoken to UConnect and was provided directions for changing this and the UConnect rep just repeated that there was no way to change this. I then told the rep that I was disappointed with UConnect because this would be a simple software update and could the rep please relay my concern to the system engineers to include in any future update. Terrible customer service for something so simple!

I was waiting for post #8 by TCP to go on to:

7. Touch your right index finger to your nose.
8. Stand on left foot.
9. Hop around and spin 3 times chanting "U Connect" with each turn.
10. Press media, scroll to bluetooth, press bluetooth icon and wait.

After trying to do the previous mentioned steps twice. I called Uconnect, Just spoke to a Uconnect specialist, she advised that this issue is limited to the 8.4 model and unable to be changed. 🤮

Yep, I can also attest to this. I also just had the truck into service at the Dealer and one guy there reacted with "ah yeah...that 8.4 unit issue". He knew exactly what I was on about. He recommended I look at Infotainment as they have a MOPAR option for us. DId that - C-BDLUAVDT21-XL - $2700 later and im still not certain the unit will go to "last known source" at start up. Pretty stupid in this day in age. My 2015 Audi does this seamlessly. My 2021 RAM..... not so much.
