Tungsten Owners who hate that the truck was made without the paddle shifters

I am a three-time Ram 1500 owner. I owned a 2011 Sport, a 2021 Limited 4x4, and now a 2025 Tungsten. I purchased the new truck for the latest Hurricane Engine but was shocked not to have the option to have the paddle shifter in the steering wheel. I was inches away from going with the RHO, but as I said, the added lift and no air suspension kept my 58-year-old self from buying the RHO. I am asking the forum if I purchased an OEM RHO steering wheel. Would it be able to be installed (professionally) and still function as the original one? And most notably, with a flash, have the use of the paddle shifter?

that steering wheel is thousands of dollars 3,200 if I remember right. they had to change mine in my limited under warranty for bad leather wrapping.

It may be costly, but I wonder if it will work. I would love to be able to shift this engine manually.

Roger, that's wishful thinking. If I had a local dealership with an RHO in stock, I could at least see if my wife and I could step up into the RHO. It seems they are all being shipped out west.

I had a 2020 Ram Limited, and I was able to swap out and installed the TRX paddle shifters and they worked like factory. So, if you can get an RHO steering wheel with the same controls' setup as in the Tungsten then it should be as simple plug and play.

I want one too

The - and + on the steering wheel is awful. I miss the style that would let you use the center console shifter to go up and down as needed. Now it's all tied to MDS and crap too.

Does the 2025 have the MDS style gear selection (limit) as well?

I have a 2025 limited, and no paddle shifters is a HUGE miss. Pretty dumb to not have especially at this price point, even more so for you Tungsten owners. At least offer the option, but really it should just be there by default.

IMO a Tungsten is a luxury truck and so is a Limited like a old caddy so i get why it's not on those trucks.
pretty sure ram wants to program the trans to get some kind of fuel economy and the driver shifting it kinda defeats that and would also add unnecessary wear and tear on the trans.
SO 14 in screen, passenger screen, seat message, heated and cooled back seat, lane keep, adaptive cruse, self driving mode and so on but hay i want to be able to shift it myself. really??
i would say well over 95% of that tier of buyer could not care less about a paddle shifter. they just want to put it in drive and hit the gas and go.

Twice ive accidentally hit my paddle shift cruising downtown and it downshifts on me winding my engine out. I dont even use em.

Wondering, why would Ram offer the most powerful engine in their current lineup in the “old caddy” models, but not the lower trims?

i'm not in product development or a focus group. your thinking it's a performance motor. i'm thinking it needs that much power to get 3.5 tons going down the road and up hills. i know 500+hp sounds like a lot but when you put it in perspective it's really not. your loosening at least 100 hp through the drivetrain.
at 375 hp and 525 tq weighing 4500 pounds the caddy was not a slouch but still a comfy ride and got down the road good. that's where luxury trucks are at.
that's my thinking.

In my limited, I could care less about paddle shifters. They’re on my wife’s GC and I’ve hit them by accident several times, don’t care for them at all.
If I had an RHO or TRX, I may feel differently.
But a Limited? Don’t care.
I’ve used the -/+ a few times when driving in very hilly conditions and instead of riding my brakes, I downshifted.
I can count on one hand how many times…

I bought this truck and my last truck as my city cowboy Cadillacs. For the interior, ride quality, etc.
Gets up to speed just fine, but getting there faster isn’t a concern for me.
